I used to release rat snakes. But I started vent clipping to mark them before release. I released one 5 mile away and it found it's way back to my aviaries in 3 months. and another we released 7 miles away in to a swamp took less then 3 months to make it back to our aviaries. So we no longer release rat snakes, simply can not take the risk!
Interesting that they play dead, I've never seen toucans do that, granted mine have never been confronted by a snake before.
