123d is 2 liter engine with twin turbo technology it´s just mark(123) to differ it from 120d and 118d, which are also 2 litres. In addition BMW 120d has 184 PS and average fuel compsution under 5 liter. This 123d has 5 liter and something which is incredible!!! BMW 4EVER

it´s not 2.3 liter, it´s 2.0 Liter with twinturbo. Same as 118d, it´not 1.8 liter, it´s 2.0 liter , and 35i-twinturbo, 28i... and so on

@devonutopia I believe the 0-100 time is something like 5 seconds faster, which may not sound a lot but you cover a huge distance in 5 seconds at that speed. All I know is I have a 123D and when I am tearing away with a TT next to me all I see it is getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror and it makes all worth it.

@Lerry80 I think the idea is to compare the TOP diesel coupe from Audi vs the TOP diesel coupe from BMW. BMW have made a better car with a much better engine. The same goes as you go further up and compare the 330d or 335d, they are both quicker than the 3.0 tdi of the A4 and A5...lets face it, BMW are just the better car makers. I have a 120d and its faster than most if not all other 2.0 diesel engines. I have ordered my 123d and I can't wait for it.

@J113FI79M Nice comment.... I have a 120d too: has been remapped and it has now 190 cv (dyno tested). The main idea, on my opinion is to compare same horse power cars... But unfortunalety Audi has not yet invented a version 2.0 L with over 200 cv as Bmw has done. BMW POWER

@Lerry80 I am dithering over the 123d now, according to Bluefin the 120d should pump out 224bhp which should be more than enough. The 123d is gona cost me an extra £6k after I trade the 120 in but the Bluefin is only £400 or so...I think I am being seduced by the thought of a twin turbo charged engine!!

@J113FI79M If your final choise will be on 123d, you're totally justified 'cause it's a great car...respect! If I can suggest you something, do not use chip tuning, but remap it!! I've used a rapid module from dimsport (do you know about it?) but I was not satisfied and I've remapped and of course removed it (still got it in my garage!).

With remapping you can customize better your car performance.

In dry weather, BMW would have won with more than ½ sec, surely. Pretty amazing that its faster than a 4wd car in the wet. Fun car = BMW, safe car = TT quattro. The end. If Pass91 is right, you cant really compare the 7000 grand less expensive 120d with the TT. The two chosen cars were the right ones to match.

Don't forget that it's raining, the TT has an extra grip, this is a big advantage even if the BMW is more powerful. On the dry the 123d clearly rapes the TT.

That shows you how overpriced that Audi is, not a real sports car, not a saloon and with an engine that you could find in a cheap Skoda, Golf or Seat Leon. Audi thinks people are fools, but not all of them are.

...hmm I don´t think so ( not only because of the weight difference 1370kg vs. 1495kg 9% less for AUDI but also because of the RWD of BMW ) but if yes that´s why: 170ps vs. 204ps 20% more for BMW ... 350Nm vs. 400Nm 14% more for BMW ... 8,05kg/ps vs. 7,33kg/ps 9,9% better ratio for BMW and I must also say that Jason Plato hates all kind of Audi.  So at the end of the day this comparison was decided before it began...

i agree, the bmw has 201bhp 0-60 in 6.9 secs compared to the audi's 168bhp 0-60 7.9 secs. a 120d is more of a match, this is why i think fith gear is a shit program.

There is no doubt both cars are great.

BUT THEY RUINED IT WITH A DIESEL.

PETROLS ARE FOR SPORTS CARS.

In the diesel the power just about comes and you have to change gear.

BMW is a great car i used to have an e36 coupe cosmos black. But when audi gave a the most recent RS4 i think it changed them for the better. Oh and i had an Alfa Romeo 156, you cant beat alfa for charisma and style and i think maybe you will agree coming from Italy;)
