@ShanCrawley, I believe this board was a pressed board that I found at Home Depot or Lowe's. They sell large sheets of different kinds of boards and I like to buy them and have the people there cut them to different sizes. It is relatively inexpensive, so I feel like I can try different experiments and not worry too much about costs.

I use Grumbacher or Windsor Newton watercolor paints. As you can see from the video, I love to mix them all up.
