It was amazing I got to see this band live without knowing what to expect or even hearing them beforehand. Blew me away and I finally found the sound I've been looking for.
marvelous ! I was at the gig in London, so thanks for this !
I also went to their next visit to London on the Children Of God tour which remains one of the most transcendent & visceral experiences I have ever had.
To my mind SWANS, Michael Gira, Jarboe, Norman Westberg et al are true heroes & an example to all those millionaires who dare talk about star-quality - this is artistic star-quality of which he ( nameless, I won't sulley the page with name) has no concept whatsoever.
This video is absolutely one of the best things that I have ever seen/heard anywhere. Thank you so much for uploading this since I've lost my original VHS-tape in some of the numerous parties where it has been the main source of entertainment.
True this is not everyone's cup of tea. That's why I like it! The intensity of the lyrics and downright honesty of the way the band performs is unique! Swan's music is mostly "mood" music. Their critisism of capitalistic consumption and greed for (holy) money is well stated and proclaimed here.
@jeanmaurice1 Absolutely. Good points made. I like the intensity of the Swans, lyrics that pull no punches mostly delving into the darkest of places, musically quite unique and varied (I especially like their long tracks like The Sound). I'm really looking forward to seeing them and Nick Cave at Alexandra Palace, London next weekend.
I agree, into the darkest of places! Somehow they manage to put personal feelings into something bigger or more real than ordinary (personal) grief or misunderstanding. Unfortunately I never saw them playing live. A friend of mine did. They are overwhelming....hard and very rocky, postpunk industrial! I wish you lots of good times then in beautiful London City. Once the place to be if you were punk or just anti! Hi to the UK and London...cheers from the Netherlands!
Is this the same audio as Public Castration is a Good Idea?

This sucks, and I would have hit the dislike, but then I saw that no one else had yet, and I don't want to ruin a perfect record.

Micheal Gira is a raging sociopath!

@AlexBskateboards How did you come to that diagnosis? He's angry and has demons but not a sociopath.

My neighbourghrs have grown quite fond of Michael Gira's incessant screaming in the last few days...I must say, they are fast learners.
Anyway, thank you so much for uploading this! This version must be the single most anti-musical version of Greed I have heard. And I just love it ;)

my god, this is like swans meeting GY!BE. and that is great fucking shit. thnx.

I really admire young M. Gira´s strenght of voice; after screaming for nine minutes, I wouldn´t be able to make a single sound after that.
