  • That's the garibaldi groove from future sounds

  • Word.

could u make a video like breakin it down?

  • groovy

  • I dig the feel of this groove bro. I wish I could figure out the sticking!

  • OK, a video that actually is correctly labeled, That IS a very cool beat, and is much harder to do than some might think. I can tell you are serious about your practice. Your time is very good as well.

  • people that dislike dont respect how hard this is

  • I like it, man. Do you have a score you could share?

  • you should teach it

    i love thar bead

  • Paradiddles make the difference...

    Great beat

  • Yeah Sick.

  • yes mate slaming beatz!!

  • post a vid of this man. i got chops but while my first day playing in front of people at church, the simplcitiy of it discouraged me now i feel i need to lidsten and learn more grooves while also learning my chops. so i hope u might do it.

  • I love those gost notes!

  • very, very cool groove man.

  • Very nice. Smooth beats.

  • you should learn the Moeller stroke, cuz you seem a little stiff. It'd really help u loosen up.

  • Is it just me or is this ran off a paradiddle?

  • Could you write down the sticking please! Thank you

  • @muranyijanos

Just took a quick look at it, sounds to me like:

    a_1e+a_2 e+a_ 3 e+a_4 e+

    R_l r r L_R l l _ _R l r r _L r l

    K_________ K_ K ____

Caps = accented, r = right, l = left, K = kick/bass. Underscores are just space fillers. Hope this visual stays proportionate after posting x_x

Or a much easier to read version, without counting written in:

    R lrrL Rll_ Rlrr Lrl

    K _____K K____

As you can see it's based off of the paradiddle and starts on the 'a' of 4. Hope this helps people xP

  • Good news is U ROCK!!

Bad news is u made me feel like I suck... lol

  • The difference are the bass drum hit before the regular note! Sounds like a Jazz Funk. :)

  • I loved it nice im subing to u

  • that was fucking gay !!!!!!! if u wanna hear a good drummer look up tony cook nice drum beat . there u will find a real drummer ! this guy is a fucking JOKE !!

  • i like it there is alot to build off of here lots of diffrent people could take that and fuck with it and get many diffrent sounds

  • epicccc fail looser

  • it's not starting on the ah of 4,, It's just a simple rest that you throw in on the down beat of one, very effective if you like to play the up beats or when your tight with your bass player you can Comp the bass drum with a bass guitar and then it really pops. And no, it's not an odd time beat, some times less is more when your trying to be creative, take out the familiar boring old bass drum on the first beat and move it to the end of the ah of four and you get this,

  • would you like to jam with my bass ? ahehehe

  • This has a very Steve Gadd pocket groove kinda feel...get the idea from that by any chance?

  • Sounds like Future Sounds

This is not odd time is 1, 2, 3, and 1

  • Sounds like Future Sounds

  • remember that awesome song we made up? lol oh wait you can't hear me

  • Groovy

  • tottaly gay

  • Were you the drummer banning me from commenting?I like drums and enjoy how they sound! Thanks for posting your performance and Good Luck sir!Brainy at BMSS

  • Yeah this is deffinately 4/4... its a complex beat so it might throw you off a bit when you're counting, but its deffinately 4/4.... great drumming tho man!!

  • To all you counters out there... IT"S FUCKING 4. I counted it, and the block who is right there playing counted it.... just tap your fingers in 16th notes and notice the down beat will only be the same finger every measure... odd times the down beat would alternate.... If you think it's 15 then you are missing the beat of silence that goes by really fast and sneaky

  • that is some tight odd beats

  • Nice groove fella, odd times rule :)

  • nice rythme dude how long you been playing?

  • very cool!

  • 7?

  • I like this, sounds good, I wish I could play it

  • Comment removed

  • @Bibashmusic does it really matter? he should be sorry for not being completely straight forward and boring like so many other drummers, including you im thinking. look at like dany carey or a lot of other great progressive and metal drummers that do stuff like switch time signatures and such

  • hey guys please check out my video and read the description before hand thank you, just search "Drumming by Vincenzo Mariano"

  • i agree he has amazing pocket skills. and no he doesnt need a bigger set alot of amazing drumming can be done with the basics. most big sets are for multiple styles of play or for people trying to show off cause they suck dick. not many people stroke their ghost notes most just glance it and think it sounds good but it doesnt. good for you and your attention to the minor details thats what good drumming is all about

  • Awesome!!!

  • Love the groove bro! It's nice to see somebody who actually has pocket and chops. I get so tired watching people trying to rip as fast as they can and totally neglect proper technique. You actually stroke your ghost notes and focus where your accents are. So many drummers like to bounce any sixteenths and ghosts and it just looks and feels sloppy. Please work on groove and rudiments before you try to rip butt, drummers! For the love! Good work, friend.

  • pretty sweet

  • You sure this is in 4/4? I don't think it is - not saying I'm right though.

  • Great beat.. would believe it is somekind of reggae-punk stuff ;) could sound like it...

Btw.... This is a totally common set... a totally comon jazz set, where u leave the 14/12' tom out, and move your ride cymbal closer... No-one will need a bigger set than this.

  • needs sound proofing real bad

  • nice beat man!

  • sweeet

  • is this a paradiddle groove? i'm kinda bad at listening for stuff like that.

  • Thats a hot beat bro! Keep it up

  • sweet dude imma a drummer and sax player and am very good at both chat wit sometime i might put a drum viedo of me

  • Very nice my man!

  • Are those ghost notes your playing on the snare. I see a double happening, but I dont hear it

  • 52 people dont have ears

  • Nice! Meat and potatoes and a little flash gets the gig.

  • Tasty licks man!!!

  • I like it very much

  • That is an amazing beat!! Soo groovy

  • sick beat dude...id pay to see u play. foreal

  • I have watched this video plenty of times and even saved it on my desk top to remind me to try and pinch bits of it! The fills in particular are really smooth especially @ 56ish seconds - lovely stuff!

  • Good beat

  • Hey man, what kind of crash cymbal is that? Sounds good.

  • I'm stealing this beat just so you know! I'll give you the credit if anyone asks haha

  • holy shit thats a fuckin sick beat

  • ....well done!!!isound,groove,precision...its all there!!!kudos!:)

  • simple beat but reallt good! you got some skill!

  • nice

  • TUTORIAL PLZ! AMAZING! :)

  • I Just Broke Out My Bass, I was trying to come up with my own lines to this ahha. Great beat man. keep it up.

  • kinda Gadd, tasty.

  • love it man!

  • Nice man! Really good!! Check out my vids if you want. =) Keep up the hard work. It shows.

  • Whats that a mixture of paradiddles and double paradidles on the hi hat and snare?

  • This was so groove and clean. I enjoyed this :D!

  • sweeet

  • SICK drumbeat

  • make ur bass stronger!

  • great groove man!Chaffees influences?

  • why is your drum set facing a corner? lol seems weird to me

  • @aznboy190 At the time I had a super small room with a very large bed...it was just the most space efficient...plus there is a window right in front of me so I could open that up and put a fan in it and get fresh air when I would practice my 8 hour days

  • @aznboy190 For optimum space. He doesn't need to be behind the set, so pushing it to the wall is best in a small room.

  • I don't care if it'd 4/4 or 125/189....or whether your fiance just found out you "gay"....that was a sick little groove. Nicely done.

  • dude that was sick

  • get better at filling

  • i dont like it

  • cant actually understand the beat, its not funky or out, the rythym is fucked up

  • 50 dislikes? omg this sounds very good!

  • NIIIICEE OOOOONNNNEEEE !!!! =DDDDD

  • Hey daniel u should teach. Your timing is fantastic as is your ease. You are not in Australia by any chance are you? My bf and I need a teahcer!lol

    Well done

  • @ashikadil19 man I wish I was in Australia...unfortunately I am in Minneapolis, MN U.S. of A where the winters are long and cold lol... I moved into an apartment so I've not been able to have my drums with me (KILLING ME!!!) but hopefully I will get back to where I can have them soon and I'll post some new music. Also my wife and I have been writing a lot of tunes lately so I might be posting some videos of our stuff soon as well...keep an ear out for it and thanks for the kind words!!!

  • @DanielLandwehr i live in minneapolis too!!!!

  • people it's def 4/4! if you can't count 4/4 maybe you should spend your time learning something that isnt musical! He's just accenting the off beat. Nice groove

  • @2222loko oops...I guess I'd better let my fiance know...thanks for a completely called for and totally relevant comment...

  • @DanielLandwehr

It's 'fiancee' buddy haha. Sweet beat though!

  • @2222loko

    woowww u stink

  • @googuy1990 why did you erased my mssge ? affraid of people knowing the truth about how lame and gay u really are?!!

  • thats pretty dece

  • thats really cool, reminds me of the groove in soul vaccination by tower of power (david garibabldi).

  • i thought it was 16th note.

    1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a is what i heard, but tight beat anyway

  • pretty cool beat... leaves the downbeats alone... opens the mind ;)

  • sweeettt

  • loved your feel

  • I think it is a 15/16, not a 4/4 !

    we can count this : 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and 1, etc

we delete the "a" before the 1

  • I played it with a metronome....I promise you it's a 4/4 exercise...I even have the sheet music for it written by David Garibaldi...and I don't think he would mess up counting on his own exercise lol

  • @DanielLandwehr yeah, you are right, it's a 4/4 !!! Maybe i was wrong because your accent is on the "a" before the 1 and not on the 1. Sorry to say bullshit lol !

  • it's all good mate :) maybe some day when I get my kit back in the same house with me I'll bost a new video lol

  • @DanielLandwehr open high-hat at the last beat would be SWEET, great drumming quite impressive.

  • nice

  • i love it when youtube messes up my formatting.

  • I made a comment a few months ago on the sticking of this groove, but I was a little off. Here is the correct sticking.

If your right hand it on the hat and left is on the snare it just goes like this: (accents are in parentheses) Bass drum is below the note that it hits on.

    R L R (L) R L L R R L R R (L) R R L B B B.

I got a video response in here too.

  • i loved the fills how u do them

  • good job

  • sounds good! like

  • i like it but you should try adding a third kick or delay the two quick kicks. if that makes sense. change it up a little bit!

  • looks like a matchstick man playing kiddies drums

  • Reminds me of the beginning of Higher Love.

  • nice....ur so stiff though...seems painful. lol

  • that is a rad beat. i'm playing it over and over to just jam with my bass to it.

you have a perfect loop. don't listen to these fools

    they cant count.

  • do you mean e instead of ah. ARe they sixteenth notes. 16ths are counted like this:

    1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

  • No it's the ah of beat for....4 e + (a) It's hard to count...but it you want you should pick up a copy of the Future Sounds book by David Garibaldi...the guy is a genius when it comes to writing funky beats that make you have to chill in the pocket....I highly recommend it.

  • dude this is wicked

  • i like this alot

it has that dave wekle feel to it

  • im 6'6 and my set up is pretty small, it's all about the feel for you. there isn't a set size to have depending on your size thats just silly hogwash

  • the fill at like 0:55 is sweet.

  • to all you people that think he needs a bigger set, if your a good drummer the way he has it is fine.

  • @skd793 i agree playing a small set is a lot harder

  • you need a bigger drum set...you huge and your drum set is so small...but your srumming is really good

  • Comment removed

  • That was badass, i like how you got a remote for your camera thats pretty sweet too lol

  • This is really cool, i'm a drummer with very little music knowledge haha i don't know what the technical term is for that snare beat where it lands a little late. but i made a vid of a beat kinda like that. please check it and let me know. keep up the good work, sounds great!

  • Displaced 16th note.....sounds cool!

  • holy crap you look like a fucking twig. good beat tho

  • solid sound!

  • nice hair

  • This Beat sounds really weird, but however I like it

  • nice man, stayed in the pocket real good

  • For anyone that's interested - this beat is actually out of Garibaldi's book 'Future Sounds'. Page 41, first exercise in 'Groove Study 2'. There are 5 other progressions on it too. Great stuff.

  • break beat, nice work

  • Nice beat! ;D

  • Is that just a paradiddle on the high hat and snare?

  • @dindelicato no, just diddles between feet and his hands... simple but good

  • That sounds quality

  • it has an abe cunningham feel to it

  • 112000th viewer, this is good

  • Comment removed

  • not your beat.

search this : Steve Gadd - Pocket Groove

  • Alright, i was watching this last night, so I figured I'd sit down and figure out the sticking for this sweet groove. Here it is.

its a para para diddle diddle para diddle para diddle.

or, if your right hand it on the hat and left is on the snare it just goes like this: (accents are in parentheses)

    R L R (L) R R L L R L R R (L) R L L.

  • The ghost notes make this so tasty.

  • I like it

  • excellent drumming! this sounds like like a very odd time signature. but it says 4/4 in the description. can you explain how this beat is counted? is it something like, 1-2-3-4andah1-2-3andah???? someone help :)

  • hahaha, i cant...

  • ok bro you are the most amazin drummer ever dude. keep it up make more your a fantastic drummer thank God that he has gavin you such a great gift< Dustin

  • Yeahh man. Fucking sweet as..lovely groove going on one love x

  • how do you get the half stars. plz tell

  • haha heres a clue. you cant.

  • Thats the average when you put 5 stars and 4 stars together alot of times

  • or five and one...usually means a lot of people liked it, some didn't.

  • travis and joey BOTH suck. get over yourselves

  • obviously both drummers are tremendously talented. dumbass
