The kids in the first row looked pretty disturbed by steamboats "injury". Wwf pulled it off well back then. Steamboat was a good IC champ but not a world champ. This shows the status that wwf had with perception of championships. Steamboat leaves wwf and wins the NWA world title from ric flair.

If Hogan had never returned WWF prior to 1984 they wouldn't have been totally out of it and possibly coulda had more variety in who was really over.

Savage/Dibiase certainly coulda carried a huge load.

but watching this match, you can see almost move for move there WrestleMania 3 match which IMO was the best match of the PPV, wasn't the greatest draw but it stole the show in wrestling ability

The reason Steamboat lost the IC Belt was because he was taking time off to be with his wife (now ex wife) who was going to have their son (Richie Steamboat who's in FCW-WWE's Developmental League). Vince needed the IC TItle defended at some house shows but Ricky wouldn't be available. Steamboat returned but Vince never had the same faith in Ricky to be able to be a top guy with his company. He went to WCW/NWA and beat Flair for the World Title.

Overall I'd say the wrestling was better in the 90s attitude era. However the one thing the 80s wrestlers had over any other era of wrestling was the best characters. Everyone had their own unique and different characters. Now every character is just like the last one and in the 90s there was a handful of good ones but more stinkers then good ones. They were also unique in building feuds. Today if I have to see another "mic" duel as build up I will puke.
