If this happened today - the Internet fans would be criticizing Ricky Steamboat's promo for being too bland, complain about the Danny Davis sub-storyline and the way the match ended without a clean finish.
RIP Macho Man Randy Savage. Besides him, Lex Luger, Sting, Ultimate Warrior, Ron Simmons, Butch Reed, Slick, Akeem, Big Bossman, The Mountie, British Bulldog, Honky Tonk Man, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Ravishing Rick Rude, Bam Bam Bigelow, The Guerreros (Chavo, Mando, Hector) should all been in there by now.
@21richkid Ron Simmons, Sting, Ultimate Warrior, Butch Reed, Slick, Akeem, The Mountie, Honky Tonk Man, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Non of the Guerreros you mentioned are dead.
@Max1337Samuelsson Lex Luger is also still alive. Also they need to induct Great Muta, Ahmed Johnson, Brooklyn Brawler, Leaping Lanny Poffo a.k.a. The Genius, Big Van Vader, Demolition Ax and Smash, Tugboat a.k.a. Typhoon and Shockmaster, Marty Jannetty, Paul Roma, Savio Vega, Scott Hall a.k.a Razor Ramon, or Doink the Clown are all still alive too. They need to be in the WWE Hall of Fame by now.
Man that music brings back memories. Rip Macho man. He should've been in the wrestling HOF. Shame on Mcmahon for leaving him out. Shame we are more famous when we die than when were alive.
@RunJorgeRun80 He REMARRIED his highschool sweetheart, LAST YEAR. They had just celebrated their FIRST wedding anniversary. He and Liz had been DIVORCED FOR OVER 20 YEARS!!!
R.I.P. Randy "Macho Man" Savage............(sniff sniff) He was killed today in a car accident. Can I get a moment of silence and an "OOOOOOHHHH YEEEAAAAHHH!!!"
The kids in the first row looked pretty disturbed by steamboats "injury". Wwf pulled it off well back then. Steamboat was a good IC champ but not a world champ. This shows the status that wwf had with perception of championships. Steamboat leaves wwf and wins the NWA world title from ric flair.
2 Ring Technicians that were well ahead of there time in the WWF
If Hogan had never returned WWF prior to 1984 they wouldn't have been totally out of it and possibly coulda had more variety in who was really over.
Savage/Dibiase certainly coulda carried a huge load.
but watching this match, you can see almost move for move there WrestleMania 3 match which IMO was the best match of the PPV, wasn't the greatest draw but it stole the show in wrestling ability
The reason Steamboat lost the IC Belt was because he was taking time off to be with his wife (now ex wife) who was going to have their son (Richie Steamboat who's in FCW-WWE's Developmental League). Vince needed the IC TItle defended at some house shows but Ricky wouldn't be available. Steamboat returned but Vince never had the same faith in Ricky to be able to be a top guy with his company. He went to WCW/NWA and beat Flair for the World Title.
i heard rumours that after their wrestlemania 3 match, steamboat was arguably getting more over than hogan, so hogan went to vince and said that if steamboat got more over than hulkamania it would kill the business or some such nonsense so they steamboat job to honky tonk man.
Why was Ricky Steamboat's run in the WWF cut short? The match vs macho Man in Wrestlemania is legendary!! I always thought the Dragon should have had a longer career in WWF.
supposedly something went on with him and a teenage Stephanie McMahon. This is this just a backstage rumor in the WWE that leaked, so no one knows how true it is
Overall I'd say the wrestling was better in the 90s attitude era. However the one thing the 80s wrestlers had over any other era of wrestling was the best characters. Everyone had their own unique and different characters. Now every character is just like the last one and in the 90s there was a handful of good ones but more stinkers then good ones. They were also unique in building feuds. Today if I have to see another "mic" duel as build up I will puke.
mark, rc & me snuck into this show!! and we are on t.v. at one pt...cos we didn't have seats and were standing in one of entrances....i'm going to see if i can find it on here.
Some Great action from.... NOT the 1990's, but 1980'S wrestling! 1990's.... the era of Jerry Springer shows, the Era of Jerry Springer Gimmicks, and the era of Sex, Violence Flipping of *Attitude era*.
WWF GOLDEN ERA, NEW GENERATION ERAS >>>>>>>>>> WWF ATTIUDE ERA
And may the beautiful queen of wrestling R.I.P. (She died of a drug overdose two years ago. Very sad story, especially since she was as charming as she was beautiful).
Savage and Vince gotta find a way to work things out!! Macho should be in the Hall of Fame AND the new Legends game too!! Half the roster of the game don't even have their "Wrestlemania Moment" (Kamala, Hayes, The Anvil, Koko B. Ware...etc) .
I was 10 years old when this match took place. I remeber this

I've never heard of that rumor. Steamboat was popular here in the Carolinas because of NWA, but Hogan arguably had the most momentum.
