Wow really? I'm going to be 100% honest. When I was a kid I didn't even NOTICE that there was something odd about the racial casting. I mean, I was aware of their different races, but I honestly never once thought it was weird until I saw it again years later when I was older. Racism is LEARNED!

i just don't understand what people don't get. this is what we call BLIND CASTING. the actor are in the roles that they are in because of their talent. color should not be the focus of this movie. who cares that the king and queen are interracial (white& black) and have an Asian son? it's not really a hard concept to grasp... I grew up with the 1965 version (with Lesley Ann Warren in the title role), but had never seen this 1997 remake before. Well done -- even with the implausible multiethnic casting within both Cinderella's stepfamily and the royal family!

@DOSBoxMom well, I tink I can explain the step sisters. they are her step sisters because they are sisters on through marriages. As fro the daughters of the step mothers they could be half sister. lets say her first husband died and back then it was necessary for a woman to remarry and perhaps the next husband was of a different race and had a child then they would be half siblings. worked better in my head, well its fiction so they could do whatever they want.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! Every time I watch this part, I always wonder:

1. Why did Calliope pull herself & Minerva backwards into the fountain?

2. How can Lionel collapse on the dance floor like that?

Other times, I'd be think of the following:

1. The Prince strongly proved that he didn't want no one to make Cinderella leave by refusing to let his parents intervene.

2. The King & Queen DEFINITELY have no sympathy for Lionel. LOL!!

@obsessionchik4 ..it confuses you because unlike when you were younger you don't have any biases...you watched and enjoyed this production based on the story, the music, the acting...without over analyzing the race of the characters In summary the aim of this particular Cinderella is for everyone to see this through the eyes of children..innocent, pure, simple minded, unbiased..far from an adult's critical point of view.
