The account Chris Robinson gives in this video is inaccurate . Tensions actually devolped between the Crowes and Aerosmith backstage when Robinson accidentally knocked over a bottle of Steven Tyler's imported douche water when reaching for a beer .
Saw the Crowes, Warrant (who really did suck), Metallica & Aerosmith on June 29, 1990 in Toronto. I had seen the Crowes earlier in the new year at some club outside of Toronto. I was 16 and my parents were pissed that I went to that show because they thought they were serving alcohol but it was an all ages show and it was pretty far away from where I lived. They also asked if I had taken any drugs to which I said no but looking back it might have been pretty funny if I had.
I remember working in Champaign IL in 90 and the Crowes came down when I think they were playing the next day at Alpine Valley with Aerosmith. The bar was called Mables and the Crowes became the band that almost pushed The Replacements out of number one for me. I believe they made the Hard to Handle video at Alpine Valley.
@BillyDreamer2 I was working in Champaign that year too. I didn't see the Crowes, but man, wasn't Mabel's a great venue? So many great nights there. Hope you're doing well.
I'll take The Black Crowes over Aerosmith any day. The key to The Black Crowes is their sponteneity as live performers and their albums taken as a whole. And there are so many great "deep cuts" on Crowes albums - "Horsehead", "Wiser Time", "My Morning Song", "Tied Up And Swallowed", etc......
Take the crowes from any time and they couldnt touch the TRUE aerosmith of the 70's, or even the late 80's. But what aerosmith became after get a grip, the crowes are easily the better band since then, especially with such fantastic tunes as anything from the by your side album, or greasy grass river, or even wounded bird.
Aerosmith are a pop/vegas act now. Just see them for the sake of seeing them because of what they WERE. The crowes still perform
The focus on "the moment" is exactly why the LIVE shows are so damn good. Thank you guys! Sure hope the indefinite hiatus isn't definite. Roll on, Jeremiah!

aerosmith is a shell of what they were 30 years ago.... they could learn a lot from the Crowes... let Tyler go play "pop star" on American Idol....

Krammer is an old woman....probably realised that they were being outclassed.

I saw them open for Aerosmith in 1990. 3rd row in Norfolk. I've been hooked ever since.

Still wearing sunglasses indoors - a rock star even as he ages - you've got to love Chris Robinson.
