  • Nice work with DOF & the sound. Do a short film buddy.

  • tutorial

  • how did you get the black lines? was it in post?

  • see you dont need an amazing camera, just good cc.

  • This video is the proof i need to get this cam.

I'm recording the cult at the church and we can't spend much money into it. Thanks.

  • what are the differences between this camera and the CX160?

  • Hey awesome video dude..wats difference between XR160 & XR150 ?? and is magic bullet and sony vegas available for free ?? plzz reply bro.. m plannin to take one.. u recommend ?? are there any other in the same price range ??

  • How much was the cam?

  • @lily123pink

It was about 600 US Dollars, but that was about 18 months ago.

  • hey did you use lens or something in shooting the footages?

  • @08killerkill

    Nope!

  • @EggChops ohh.. ok thanks..

  • Just bought XR160 - this movie inspired me to buy exactly this model. Thanks ! one more question - this magic bullet is a free application to sony vegas or need to buy it ? I use platiunium 10 version

  • Hi, nice video. I do have a question 'coz I am using the same camera... How did you do the change focus on 0:31-0:34... I know that the spot meter/focus is one suggestion, but it doesn't allow me to achieve such great depth of field like the one in 0:31-0:34. I sure hope you can help.

    Many thanks...

    Kudos! :)

  • S U P E R B ! ! ! !

  • 0:54 HOW DO YOU DO THE BLURRY BACKGROUND IN THE BEE IS FOCUSED?? HOW

  • @MikeezXF

I zoomed in really far, and the background was also rather far. The large distance between background and foreground, mixed with the close zoom, produced this effect :]

  • who watched this in 240p? i did...

  • 2 idiots dislike that

  • when you can see the heat in the air you know it's good

  • love it! and i loved the effect u used! i used to have sony vegas full version for free, but then i bought a new computer, and i forgot how i downloaded it full version for free :( im not sure if i want to dish out 600 bucks just for an editing software!

  • hey tellme something waht's better Sony HDR CX-150 or Sony HDR CX-160ç?

  • @lirihtco

They are probably just about equal. As far as I've heard, the only major difference is that the HDR-CX160 uses flash memory, while the HDR-XR150 has a 120 Built-in hard drive :]

  • @EggChops But, That color correction do you did in siny vegas or after effect? something more, that focus in your video do you have to do it inside program or Can I do it recording?

  • @lirihtco

The color correction was done in Sony Vegas, and the focusing was done while I was recording the video :]

  • @EggChops One question more and thanks you so much fot you answers. Do you recommend more a Sony HDR CX-160 or a nikon d3100 ? but to record or make videos( short films or vidoe music ect

  • @lirihtco

For short films and music videos, I do recommend the DSLR (Nikon D3100). DSLRs (in my experience) have no trouble achieving a "film look" for under 1,000 US Dollars, especially with good color correction, and I am still amazed to this day at what good editing, filming, and patience can create today, especially for such a low price. Just be aware that if you want to buy the Nikon, you might also want to save an extra few hundred (or few thousand) dollars for some nice lenses :]

  • @EggChops Perfect Answer, So What do you recommend me? What camera o what REFLEX Digit? What can Buy per 600% or less.

  • @lirihtco

You can probably get a Nikon D3100 used, or Canon T2i used for around that price :]

  • I'm looking for my first HD camera and so far I've been looking at the Sony HDR-XR160. This is the 150...doesn't that just mean that the 160 is better?

  • @thatswhatsheread

Being that the HDR-XR160 is newer, I guess it's safe to assume that it has some nifty features that the HDR-XR150 does not.

  • which adapter you used?

  • @MaxBR29

    No adapter is used :]

  • @EggChops ok but, how did you get the effect of focus? :-)

  • @MaxBR29

That was done using the "Spot Focus" feature :]

  • how much is this camera??

  • @rizowilson

I had picked this camcorder up all the way back in May 2010, Back then, it was 599 US Dollars from Best Buy. I'm sure you can find a used one for a good price :]

  • @rizowilson My friends selling me one for 250.

  • Sehr gute Arbeit!

  • so you would recommend this camera?? yes? (:

  • @Jeaninegirl94

    Yes, I would :]

  • Totally amazing video my friend. I just bought the HDR-XR 160 today. Can I expect to be able to take the same type of video quality?

  • @siliconboy187

With a little bit of color correction, yes!! :]

  • im watching it on 1080p HD but it take FOREVER TO LOAD! Good vid !

  • Nice.. Thank's 4shared :)

  • Cool, thanks for the tip.

  • I just bought a Xr 150 and my footage is coming out less than sharp in contrast to yours. Do you happen to remember the camera setting when you shot daylight in those images? LIke white balance etc. Also is the dop with the bee shot after effects or in camera? Best video with Xr150 so far.

  • @roninfilmer132

    Thank you :]

I believe it was just a typical outdoor preset setting for the white balance. Also make sure that you're shooting in HD, and that yours is on the HD FX mode (for the sharpest quality ). The DOP effect was done with the camera :]

  • wow awesome.. how did you do the blurry background with the bug?

  • omg this video is freaking awesome you should put this available as download somewhere man i want to download it love the music and the concept

  • lol at the begging of the video, all thought was "long long ago in an ancient land.." lol loved it !

  • @EggChops Do you think the quality of this camera is the same as the HDR-CX110 ? Please do reply!

  • phenominal clip i love it shows what u can achive with a affordable camera i myself have that camera and a canon 5d mark 2..

  • @spawnofsatenzslutz

    Canon 5D Mark II

    *Drool*

Thanks for the compliments, and enjoy that monster of yours!! Some (like me) can only dream of owning such a beast of a machine!! ;]

  • @EggChops i bought mine with my tax return but i looked to buy a another or a 7d but canon dont have anymore on the site it was all out of stock last i checked ,i might put some tutorials of the stuff i made for my camera and upload to my account but once agian nice job on the clip. XD

  • Witch sony vegas version do you got?

  • @Michiel313

This is Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 :]

  • @EggChops

can the camera do night vision?

  • @GsusMachiaveliko

    Unfortunately not :[

  • @GsusMachiaveliko

    Unfortunately not :[

  • @GsusMachiaveliko

    Unfortunately not :[

  • Does this video camera have an external mic input?

  • @chickenluva1 No external mic input or headphone jack :( Its not that bad though as the mic is a zoom microphone. Still i think all camcorders should include a mic jack at the least.

  • How did you do that at :32? It just automatically did that?

  • @tonkahoosier

That was done with the Spot Focus feature on the camera, where the touch screen allows you to touch a spot on the LCD screen and have that area come into focus :]

  • @EggChops SWEEEEEEeeeeet! I didn't know what the "Spot Focus" on my CX110 handycam do until now that you explained it. Freaking awesome, didn't know my camcorder can do that depth of field type thing. I had to waste more money just to get a 35mm DOF adapter for it and that reduces quality bad.

    **Thumbs Up**

  • @EggChops

Hi there, would you show me how did you get the dusk/dawn effect for the last clip? thx

  • @123kgpsai

    Hello,

That last clip was color corrected using the Magic Bullet Looks Suite plug-in for Sony Vegas. I simply added a digital filter that was orange-colored over the original blue sky to make it look as if it was filmed at another time :] This can probably also be done with any other color corrector besides Magic Bullet.

  • @EggChops

Would you tell me what effect you did @0.37-0.40 that involved motion effect?

    thx

  • I have the same exact camera , the setting is on FH, I shot in the sunlight with perfect white balance and still the footage I get is bullshit and its noisy!!! I stopped using it

  • @layalkamal1

Was the lens clean? Did you try it in FX mode? Also, did you try compressing the footage into another HD format as a final product to see if the noise in the raw footage would go away?

  • @EggChops I reset it to FX mode after watching your vid, and I imported the footage in Imovie just to see the quality, and let me tell u, it is AH-MAZING !! last Q if u don't mind, it does not has a night-vision right?

Loving ur vids, Thanks aloooot xx

  • @layalkamal1

    No problem :]

Unfortunately, the HDR-XR150 does not have a night vision (or "nightshot" as Sony calls it) mode. The closest thing it has is a "Low Lux" (low sensitivity) setting that can be accessed in the menu - it makes the camera's sensor very sensitive for low-light shooting, but no dedicated night vision mode like the higher end cameras do :[

  • Eggchops, when you click new in Sony vegas , what template do you use? Do you mind messaging me some info that will give me the best look for my skate videos? I have this exact camera. It will mean So Much! :) Great video !

  • @HLGxUnborn

The template I use is named this: HD 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970 fps).

What I found was most important was the 60i and the 29.970fps, because that's the format the camera captures in (I believe so). When I render the video, however, I render it in .WMV format, anywhere between 6-8 mbps bitrate at 23.976fps :] Hope this helps!

  • @EggChops Thank You Very Much!

  • i really want this camera now

  • outstanding work dude!

  • @Torqueofficial

    Thank you!! : ]

  • lol that was epic

  • It's alrite man..then i stick to your method. Thanks. ;)

  • Thanks man..Is there any different between HD FX and HD FH?since i'm gonna convert those footage,if i use HD FH setting, it will affect the output?

  • @princkeng

I cannot be sure to be honest. All I know is that HD FX is the highest quality setting, and I always use it. Sorry

  • Thanks man..coz i'm going to produce a short film soon using this camcorder but i'm facing the problem looking for suitable software to edit the footage. But now seems like Sony Vegas Pro will do the trick. :)

  • @princkeng

Sony Vegas is a great and easy to use software :] I wish you good luck on your video!

  • Do you render out to wmv or mp4.

  • @APhamx7

    .WMV

  • I see..did u set the quality to HD FX in camcorder?

And how was the file size after you export it from Sony Vegas? Is is about the same size with the original file?

  • @princkeng

    Yep! HD FX is correct.

After exporting in Sony Vegas, the file size is much, much smaller. A two minute video such as this one would probably take less than 100 mb of space, whereas raw HD footage would probably take up at least 500 mb, but I cannot say for sure.

  • Thanks @EggChops

at 0:41, the trasition from sunlight to church is so smooth...did you add blur motion on it??

  • @princkeng

There is motion blur, however, the sunlight and the Church were actually in the same shot

  • @EggChops

I have the same camcorder.Have you tried edit it in Adobe After Effect?

Is this whole video only edited with Sony Vegas Pro 9? No other editing sfotware?

  • @princkeng

Correct - This is all Sony Vegas Pro 9.0

  • Can I mount it on a tripod? Is there any better camera at the same price? Nice video.

  • was there any after effects used? was it spot meter to adjust the focus or is it a varifocal lense tahts on it?

u could use taht in a movie its that good.

  • @EggChops I'm from Brazil and just bought this camera because of that video. It's really a masterpiece, congratulations.

All my doubts were answered after reading the coments, so I won't bother you:)

When I post my first video I'll send you the link for your opinion, ok?

  • @viniciusjnn

I'm glad you liked the video, and congratulations on the new camera!! Thanks A LOT for reading the comments and looking for your answers, it really helps me a lot too!! :]

Looking forward to your first video!! :]

  • @viniciusjnn

I'm glad you liked the video, and congratulations on the new camera!! Thanks A LOT for reading the comments and looking for your answers, it really helps me a lot too!! :]

Looking forward to your first video!! :]

  • That's AMAZING!

As soon I get the cash for one of these, I will get it... =D

  • Are the very first clips of clouds filmed with this camera as well?

  • @RedneckCowgirl95

Yep!! The whole video is HDR-XR150 :]

  • @EggChops Awesome! I'm SO getting this camera! :D

  • This video convinced me to buy the R150!

I got talked into a JVC but its really not doing it for me. Back to the store I go and I'm heading straight for this camcorder. Thanks for the great vid!

  • Amazing what's on the market these days. When I first got into video editing just a few short years ago, something this good would have taken thousands of dollars in equipment.

  • very nicely done man, what software did you use to make this ??

  • hi can u tell me what render settings u used in vegas to get ur video like this?

  • Hi Eggchops great video, I notice at 0:32 you do this Depth of Field focal shift how do you do this on the camera? with a button?

  • @nonchalant1985

    Thanks very much!!

The shift in focus was done using the "Spot Focus" option, in which the location on the camera screen you touch comes into focus. A very handy tool, actually !! :]

  • @EggChops Alright, Thanks man! I am saving for this camera!

  • Ei man, you must have covered this question before, but i really need to ask this. How did you edit this in Sony Vegas? Did you have to use a video converter from its original MTS file, or did you just directly load everything into the editing software? If you used a converter, would you mind sharing what it was? That's my only setback. Really hope you could help me. Thanks.

  • @pzychred

Nope!! Being that they are both Sony products ( I assume this is the reason why), I had no problem at all editing the .MTS files in Sony Vegas. It was a simple click and drag into the timeline, and the video files jumped right into the program without any additional conversions. :] The version I used for the video is Vegas Pro 9.0.

  • @EggChops aight man, thank you so much for that tip. you really did great here.

  • Comment removed

  • @EggChops Ei there man! I took your notes. Everything has been working well for me except for the part that the rendered output is a square and vertically stretched. How do you configure the project properties and the rendering settings to have the HD look effective just like your output here. I've tried different ways, but apparently I've missed out on something. Thanks.

  • @pzychred

Try making sure that your resolution is 1440x1080 pixels when you render. When I render, I usually use the 6.7 MBPS 1080P HD format preset in the .WMV filetype, and it usually sets the output resolution to 1440x1080 pixels, and it seems to work fine for me.

  • @EggChops Awesome! Thanks for accommodating me. You keep doing your thing. Great stuff!

  • @pzychred

No problem, hope I was able to help!! And thanks for the compliments :]

  • AWESOME video

  • Muy colgado, esta barbaro!

  • u shot this at 24p? n wat magic bullets plugins u used ? the result is unbelievable for the cam u have used plzz cud u share some secrets?

  • @naamagirami

This is actually shot at 60i, but converted to 24p in Sony Vegas. I used Magic Bullet Looks Suite for the color correction :]

  • I'll buy this amazing cam. But there's one question - is it difficult to use this camera? Because i'm newbie in this. :)

  • @4JUMPSTYL3

It's a great camera; very simple and very small. I don't think you will have any trouble at all :] You can literally just flip open the screen without pushing a button, and in probably 5 seconds, with the record button, you can already be shooting a movie!!

  • @EggChops I bought that. I filmed a lost things in the summer. It's great camera but: 1. I find out, that there's not a thing like pause button, to pause the video (when recording).

    2. I won't get that quality like 720. I used Sony Vegas, but when i convert it, it uses about 2GB (the video is about 6-10minutes long), and there was no sound. It's pretty difficult to get HD, i think. Can you explain me clearly? :D

  • beautiful

  • where can i get music like this??!!

  • Hey buddy. Do you have to buy expensive lens for this cam?? How much does it cost?

  • @DunkleWurzlen

Nope, additional lenses are not needed! The video you see was made with the camera straight out of the box :]

  • This is Amazing. Incredible quality

  • @360GameBox

    Thank you very much! C:

  • does this camera record at 1920x1080 with 60p?

  • @arsalankhan1 I know it records at 1920x1080 but I dont know that it records with 60p or not. please let me know ..

    Thans

  • @arsalankhan1

It actually records in 1920x1080 at 60i, to be exact

  • @EggChops thanks for the response :)

  • @arsalankhan1

    No problem!!

  • What's the difference between Sony HDR-XR150 and the Sony HDR-XR350??

  • Well damn, you got the most of this camera!! Very nice video, I just put mind Sony on Craigslist I need mike jacks to that is the only drawback to the CX150

  • @Glendon007

Thanks a lot! Glad you liked the video :]

  • Nice video!

I just bought one and its on the way to my home:D

this good video make me more excited about that!

    Can't wait to unbox... > <

  • Wow, this is STUNNING! Amazing work! And thanks for posting this; I definitely know my next big purchase!

  • it has MANUAL FOCUS?

  • @unaqueotrajalada

    Yep!! It does :]

  • dude please tell me HOW DID U GET THE DEPTH OF FIELD LOOK ON THAT BUG...because i have this camera and i did my 8 latest videos on my page with this camera and i must say i should of saved my 600$ and waited to get a canon dslr because at times it looks like a 100$ digital camera ... quality is good untill you upload and and wait for that long ass converting it does then it's not that good anymore

  • @doelow44

The depth of field look was present because the bug was roughly 6-8 feet away from the camera lens, while the background was probably the distance of a few city blocks away :] Zooming in a good amount also helps as well. :]

  • @EggChops thanks im bout to try that

  • soundtrack???

  • @27clik

Nope, my picture stays exactly the same :] When I add the 2.35:1 mask, it actually crops the footage, taking away slices from both the top and bottom of the original video footage so that the video is not actually re-sized.

  • @27clik

Thank you!! Nope, the letterbox does not come with the camera; it was added in Sony Vegas. The camera normally records in 16:9, this letterbox is about 2.35:1

  • can you put a lense on it

  • @bjboy33

I believe there are additional lenses for this camera, but not a wide variety. I do know however that you can purchase a wide angle lens :]

  • @ALUCINOGENESIS

    Nope

  • I love the way you edited these. :)

    thumbs up!

  • Could you please tell me your render settings for sony vegas? what effects did you add to make the video look the way it is?

  • @SonySkateMedia

I usually use the 6.4mbps 1080p preset under the .WMV format :]

For this video, I used strictly the Magic Bullet Looks suite plug-in - I added a digital color filter adding some orange tinges in some scenes, and I increased the contrast and saturation in general for pretty much every single one of the scenes :]

  • Would you recommend this camera to someone trying to make an independant film? And how much did you get yours for, i'm trying to find a cheaper one.

  • @RTownBomber

For independent films, yes I think this camera would work pretty well, but I'm sorry, I cannot really give you an accurate comparison, I haven't used any other HD cameras aside from this one. The only real thing I can say is that I am happy with this camera :]

I bought mine for 600 US Dollars :]

  • woah. my Sony HDR-XR 150 does not look this good. what are your settings? please tell me :) or are you exporting it some special way? it might also be because i'm using final cut pro on a mac?

  • @ruckuslike

I export in Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro. I usually do 1440x1080 pixels at 24 frames per second in the .WMV format :]

  • woah. my Sony HDR-XR 150 does not look this good. what are your settings? please tell me :) or are you exporting it some special way?

  • and time lapse?

  • how did you get the focus to change at 0:32?

  • @Hurdoutdoors

The focusing was done with Spot Focus on the camera. The time lapse was done by fast-forwarding the footage in Sony Vegas.

  • @SNSMonkeys

Hmm... To be honest, I'm not sure what the problem is.. You can try researching it, but I've never experienced something similar. Sorry...

  • @SNSMonkeys

Hmm... From what you are telling me, everything seems to be normal in terms of how you set up your camera quality...Have you tried importing your videos into a video editor, and then rendering them in HD format to see how the final quality turns out?

  • how did you make it look so clear, i've seen other people' video filmed with the Sony HDR-XR150, and the quality was worst, how did you do it? i really want to purchase this camera.

  • @55longboard55

Well, I always make sure to render my videos in the best quality possible :]

I render in .WMV format with Sony Vegas, at a 6.4 mbps bitrate, 24fps, and 1080p :]

  • man you did an amazing job.

Im thinking about getting this camera, but im stuck between which one i should get.

sony HDR-xr150 or canon vixia HF-S20

    Any help?

  • Is there any way to set the fps to 24? I have a friend that wants sketch comedy shot, but says that my camera makes it look "too real" and I've been advised that 24fps and bokeh will make it look more studio quality.

  • @SweetnLulz

Not that I know of. You'd have to set it to 24fps in a video editor I believe.

  • @EggChops is it hard to work with the video format avchd in Sony Vegas. I heard that avchd is hard to edit with in Sony Vegas or adobe after effects. My question is did you have to convert the video format first, before you started editing in Sony Vegas. Or did you just use the avchd format when you edited.

  • @Untouchable909090

I wouldn't say it's easy to work with the AVCHD footage in Sony Vegas. No conversions are required, although the unrendered HD footage does get choppy with Sony Vegas, making a little bit more difficult to edit quickly. So far, I've gotten used to it (it takes some getting used to). It does require some patience, though, to edit with choppy preview monitor footage, but the end result is usually worth it :]
