I just read today that Peter Grant asked Ron Wood to join The New Yardbirds (before they became LZ). I don't see a need for a fifth member of LZ myself. His reply to PG "I don't to join a bunch of farmers." In my opinion RW is not up par with any member of LZ>
@Eldererr I have got NO IDEA dude, it's crazy. Seriously, I always knew John Paul Jones was an amazing musician, but I can't believe how good this album is.
@josemontenegro777 Are you high? Go listen to some of Zeppelin's live records and that's your answer why Page was lead guitar. John Paul Jones is a jack of all trades that held the group together, but without Page that band would never have existed
Awesome. JPJ has a very distinct 'voice' as a composer. He has an eerie harmonic palette, which underscored Led Zep in a way that I think was hard to attribute properly to him. So I love hearing that here, in the thundering riffs and playful outro. I get no sense of musical compromise here either. JPJ is as authentic and faithful to his musical sensibilities as ever.
I have this, have all his stuff... then again I have all Pages, plants and Jason bonhams to... but back to this... hence my profile name.. love it... thanks for posting! 5 stars.. green thumb!!
Wow, I haven't been keeping up on my former Zeppelin musicians, but that's gonna change, now! I think it's pretty clear that without JPJ Led Zep would've been just another cool 70s band with a good guitarist, not the legendary group it was. This guy is a one-man prog rock band.
Surely not disparaging this thunderous masterpiece, but does it remind anyone else (okay maybe only fleetingly) of Zappa's great guitar-bass playoff Transylvania Boogie, off the 1970 album Chunga's Revenge? John Paul takes it to another level though. I was amazed at the number of youths chanting out his name at Them Crooked Vultures storming Auckland concert a few months back, presumably having raided Mum and Dad's Led Zep collections. It was very heartening.
That album cover must have something to do with the age of black plague in Venice.
When the doctors used to walk on the streets looking for infected people, they had those birdish masks and their peaks were filled with herbs and stuff, to prevent the infection. Thats what i have heard
someone needs to put shibuya bop on here, its the 8th track from this CD, its like this song on speed. the only one on youtube someone dubbed really poor vocals over.
oops nevermind, I just read the info. Damn JPJ always uses the funkiest basses and mandolin and plays them expertly, but he never really did a proper solo for Zeppelin! Too bad
I don't think it was the heroin that found Jimmy*, but rather Jimmy who came across the heroin and then deliberately seeked it out more than his other three bandmates combined.
John Paul Jones is definitely the "Quiet Zeppelin", if you will, hands down the greatest multi-instrumentalist among the three. Don't compare him to the others musically otherwise though because its unfair to all parties.
what. jimmy page was tha. best and yes john played dif. instraments. but so did jimmy and plant played guitar too.....they all are fucken great.but you can't say jones was the best.
Only two real musicians, Paige and Jones...they worked very well together, it's very arguable. But Jones does have this new thing, so it does demonstrate his ability.
and jones was shurely one of them , he can be very proud and dont need to hide behind page , page is also brilliant , bonham ...or plant (nobody has such a very special voice )
i wish they go back in the studio and record some stuff with bonhams son jason ! it could be the next BIG THING
When posed with the question of whether or not the album sounds Zeppelin-influenced, John Paul Jones replied "Well, wasn't Led Zeppelin John Paul Jones-influenced?" -- from Wikipedia

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Its an old debate.
Arent cds and so on not too expensice and thats part of the reason cd sales went down drastically.
I do not own a lot of money.
I dont think JPJones is in need.
Led Z dudes are very rich, thanx to Peter Grant.
