  • yeah, the smiths are good...you can really tell from the energy surging through the crowd at 1:32-1:40

  • @felunt What!?

  • Been a fan since 1983 saw them live in 85 at Derngate Northampton all seating venue. Nobody sat. Seems like yesterday.

  • wooohhhhoooo!!!!!!!!!! gays at its best !!!!!

  • I genuinely think Andy Rourke is the most under rated bassist of all time.

  • The Hacienda a lengent.

  • i love moz live....never saw the smiths live im too young... but i saw moz last summer and he was great..lots of acts are a disappointment when you see them live but he's not.

  • One of the best bands! Love them

  • amazin footage!!!!

  • MOZ is god!!

  • This is a gay unrequited love/lust song and is very beautiful. "And your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight" He confesses his love/lust to his friend and his friend rejects him. I'm straight and this song is one of my fave songs, and utterly heartbreaking. ONLY Morrissey would have written a song like this. SUPERB. The start is just SO Celtic/Irish, sounds like bagpipes.

  • @Certex

  • The great thing about this time period is for the fact that he sounds as good live as on his recordings. Too much technology has some today that you only want to hear on thier recordings. LOL

  • The Arctic Monkeys used the bass from this for a song called Ritz to Rubble I think.

  • Oh my god, you are right.

    Great call, that's fascinating

  • OMG, u r so right. Shows what a big mark Rourke had left with his genius bass lines!!

    ANDY ROURKE LEGENDARY BASS PLAYER!!!!

    LOVE U ROURKEY

  • Couldn't agree with you Rourke is up there with the legends.

  • I went and checked and you're right, really good listening skills there, wouldn't have caught that one my self

Love the guitar and bass in this song ^^

  • PISS, HEAD, PISS, HEAD

  • Johnny Marr + Morrisey = the most radically forward thinking and unprecedented band of the era. Marr's guitar parts are unmatched to this day and Morrisey's combination of bleak cynicism and quirkiness is brilliant. I can only imagine how refreshing it would have been to hear a band like this when post-punk either meant synthesizers and drum machines or gloomy, guitar driven goth rock.

It stings to know that I was born into post-Smiths world.

  • that was beautiful.

  • fucking hell johnny marr

  • sexiest

  • amazing song...Hatful of Hollow and r.e.m.'s murmur were my solace as I came of age closeted and gay back in the day. This song alone should dispel questions about Morrissey's sexuality (which, despite what some say, has everything to do with his songwriting, not nothing).

  • While his sexuality may inform his songwriting (only Morrissey himself knows whether that's the case), his songwriting certainly doesn't inform his sexuality; that is to say it's facile to attempt to deduce his sexuality from his songs.

If he wants to keep his sexuality indeterminate, all power to him, and it (the uncertainty) even adds something to his songs, to his - for want of a better word - mythos.

I wouldn't want to know his sexuality, the ambiguity has worked remarkably well for him.

  • Coudlnt of said it better.because hes remained so ambiguous over it,it drives peoples mouths to discuss wether he is or isnt, does or doesnt.if theres 1 thing that has continued to be discussed and fretted over is his sexuality.Frankly I dont care, hes a man and a musician. But some people yearn facts, and everything there is to know. It amazes me that it still gets discussed even now after all these years!

  • i dont know, in most cases a straight man, and even a closeted gay man, would want to dispel this questioning of ones sexuality. although, morrissey isnt most people and his mind works in a very different way.

  • well if the supposed meaning of this song is that his homosexual, then to morrissey it shouldnt make any difference to anything now should it

  • "it makes none, but now you have gone, and your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight"...it makes no difference, but all of the difference at the same time.

  • I don't know if Morrissey is gay and couldn't care less. I love him and his music unequivocably.

  • Sorry, I accidentally gave you the thumb down... :(

    it's a brilliant comment.

  • @kimberly9000 not gay, virgin i think

  • @kimberly9000 why mention it?

  • @kimberly9000 i think the words 'flamboyant' :)

  • I agree with fatpizzaman this is a great song but the sound quality is bad

  • Johnny Marr is a wizard.

  • Johhny Marr and Morrisey :}

  • Im well gay n proud of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love it so much

the old things are better than the new things

    but i'm only seventeen =\

  • i'm gay and i love listening to this song.morrisey has help me in a lot of diffcult times.

  • i love morrisissy & especially this song, love jamie

  • i love the smiths pure genius............ may i say morrisey is a legend and im sick of fukin haters he awsome

  • i agree with you 100% mate. i dont understand why some people search for a band to then slag it off.smiths rule
