When Alan came in, he walked into the pits with a briefcase and ppl were like wat the hell! He was a buiseness man with lotsd of smarts that got him all the way to the top! My dad can remember him racing at Slinger Speedway in Slinger, Wisconsin and he liked him back then! He even has a picture of wen alan still raced there!
Yeah, Alan lived with the philosophy of no matter how small you are you can still do big things. He said once "If I could convince on person to try just a little harder I believe that I am a worthy champion" and he was.
Alan was my first favorite when I began watching NASCAR. I'll never forget this race, it's something you'll probably never see again. An owner/driver just doesn't do well these days unfortunately. This was the greatest championship battle in NASCAR history.
What a guy! Turned down every opportunity to drive for the biggest teams in NASCAR and won himself a championship. See, now THAT kinda says something.
So glad he didn't run out of gas... Thanks Alan for the memories.

tony gibson and paul andrews would become fitting crew chiefs in their own right in NASCAR.
