  • Regarding US Chart Position it peaked at # 15 according to Billboard

  • fUCKIN EYE GOATS HEAD SOUP!

  • I broke up with a girl because she didn't like this song. True story.

  • Best Stones song and least played on the radio, in my opinion.

  • i love it

  • great

  • best. band. EVER.

  • @11cslomk yeah i saw Gimme Shelter. I was reffering to a bbc interview with Jagger and Richards...The British Invasion, just how crazy they thought the states were.

  • @piecebypieceful ill look into that one

  • billy preston giving some... wah wah there.. on the clavinet..

  • You guys are right, this song is underrated because it sounds really cool. However, I'm not sure it *means* a lot, even though it would be nice to justify the violence. It's clear the Stones sometimes did some things intending to shock (10 year old girl? Really?) or somehow not anticipating people being shocked (Some Girls, for example). When asked what they were thinking, they respond it was a "good groove". Whatever.

  • This song came was a favorite of mine... a day after I fell in love with it the little baby girl next door got ran over by her mom's car when the mother was making more room in the driveway to play... so a certain genuine sadness is felt every time I hear it.

  • @misfitsfiend69

keep that story to yourself from now on please

  • @misfitsfiend69 whoa.

  • This is an excellent, kick-ass and sorely underrated song in the Stones repertoire.

  • This isn't based on actual or "specific" events but I watched a documentary on the Stones. The band came from a violent europe to the states thinking paradise.....only to find a more violent, horrible place that is the US.

  • @piecebypieceful actually i think the first lines(the 44. and chasin the kid) are true, some kid was shot by cop i think, not quite sure though

  • @piecebypieceful was that "gimmie shelter"? if not you should see that one too.

  • This tells two stories, a young man shot by police in a case of mistaken identity, and a 10-year girl who dies in an alley of a drug overdose. Neither is based on a true story, but intended to be a commentary on urban America. Chuck Findley plays trumpet on this, Billy Preston plays piano, Keith Richards plays bass and shares lead guitar duties with Mick Taylor, the horns were arranged by trumpet player Jim Price.

  • : " Heartbreaker with your 44 I want to tear your world apart " They should of included this in the movie, " Summer of Sam " !!!

  • I love this song and I have this c.d. Unfortunately this particular track skips like hell -.-

  • Love the wah peddle .....

  • the cover might be far ahead of its time, where girls are covered. if that is all we have to recognize the east, then, well, cover the girls up, looks nice, even mick looks nice here

  • The last truly badass Rolling Stones song.... it was all downhill from here

  • @Dempsey2626 Fake Stones fan.

  • @EvilAnticsLive Thank you.

  • while i greatly dislike the people that mention their age and the fact that they listen to this still, i have like 50 or so stones albums and stuff on vinyl including this one and im only like 15 ... comon epic shit

  • MY FAV STONES TUNE BRITS GOT THE BEST LICKS.

  • Solid!!

  • live it love it...

  • Best keyboard intro ever

  • @LLB61959 Billy Preston at his finest!

  • Good Nigger album this

  • @TheKenfig what the fuck?!

  • fuck...these guys are GODS!!!

  • DID ANYONE COVER THIS? IF SO WHO?

  • Comment removed

  • Mick Taylor was such a great asset to this band. What a genius

  • Found this album on LP at my house... SOOOO GOING PLAY IT! :D

  • i really love this song, especially the chorus... (refräng)

  • @CaptainDuck01 Did you really have to write chorus in Swedish? (Svenska)

  • best guitar riff EVER

  • Is any one else a little freaked out by the album cover?

  • @4stringcurly weirdest stones cover they've ever published lol

  • @4stringcurly yeap lmao :)

  • @4stringcurly I can't tell if thats mick jagger

  • I remember this song from the eighties. Heard it on 'Made in the Shade.'

  • @Ilfordloser92 that's where i heard it too... last summer.

  • Goat 2011 Soup

love charlie watt's use of tic and hi-hat openess

  • Even if Berquitz had convinced a jury that this song had gave him sumblimal reasons to go out and killl lovers in New Youk City. I think he still would had to servr his sentecs maybe in a mental hospital but with liitle if any chance of perol.

    .

  • my favourite part of this song is from 0:00--3:28

  • @TheKhaibear mine too

  • If this album was released in 1973 then this song has nothing to do with the son of sam killings. All of that took place between 1976-1978

  • @bigpoppa36801 would the killings have to be in the same year for it to have anything to do with it? maybe it took him 3 years to hear it. what are you talking about anyway i've never heard of the son of sam killings and would like to know more.

  • @bigpoppa36801 oh wait you mean the album cover. yeah... disregard that last post plox

  • The Stones lost out when Mick Taylor left I'm sure this has been said a 1000 times

  • is this song about the son of sam? Piolice in Ny city he did use a 44 bull dog imported from england. he killed lovers in the park. I am no phucotherpisist but there seems too be too many similariuties from ther song to the scruall crimes !

  • @frank02111 I can follow your train of logic, but this song was actually four years BEFORE Son of Sam, but an interesting observation...

  • @frank02111 Well considering that this album was released in 73 and son of sam did his thing in 78 i would think it highly unlikely.

  • bent it, broke it, stole it, lived it.

  • Okay the cover of this album freaked me out so much that I changed the artwork on my ipod...

  • @pfootball43 Why does it freak you out? :3

  • @ZeppelinClassics Lol that lady has a really disturbing expression.

  • @pfootball43 For the record, I'm pretty sure that "lady" is, in fact, Mick Jagger.

  • Just killer!

  • I saw this LP at a record shop near my house. I would have gotten it for my record player, but I had no money on me. >.< Never again.

  • best song i know called heartbreaker, and thats actually good because i know a lot of them

  • This is such good serious STONES

  • I saw the Stones play when I was in the 7th grade. 1995, I think. I would give most anything to have the opportunity to see them play in their heyday.

  • timeless quality, check the brass section

  • im 20 years old, wish i was born 30 years earlier!

  • I think the guitar solo in this is one of the best rolling stones guitar solo. Played by the virtuous Mick taylor of course.

  • greatest rock and roll band ever

  • I am not a huge drum guy, but this is what I like best about this song. Drum playing is awesome.

  • @1gunther1

That's what I like best about Gimme Shelter.

  • Current song obsession

  • @Unenthusiasticly Right?? I keep hitting replay myself.

  • @Unenthusiasticly Yeah, I've been hearing it all over the radio too. Could do worse than this.

  • remember blasting this in my 2011 challenger, nothing like great rock and american muscle car balls

  • Remember leaving my girlfriend's house when I was 18 with this song blasting in my '63 Impala!

  • Los Angeles County Police, Wis. Judges, da's, courts. Heartbreakers!

  • So damn funky. God, I love the Rolling Stones.

  • Stones & Aerosmith are the only rock bands that can make brass rock

  • this is by far one of the best songs ever recorded its perfect

  • goats head soup is super underrated it's too good

  • @luffynatsuharu iam drunk as hell to this song right now ! Max volume !

  • I want my children to get born to this song, grow up to this song, first kiss to this song, make love to this song, get engaged to this song, get married to this song, die to this song.

  • @YohoLindo Yes, I too hope that my children are born, grow up, first kiss, make love, get engaged, get married, and die to a song about an innocent man getting shot by the police and a ten-year-old girl overdosing in an alley.

  • @RenegadeSalmon me too

  • @RenegadeSalmon Dont be a hater bro. I know exactly what this song is about. But you gotta admit that it has a nice flow to it ! Doo doo doo doo !

  • @YohoLindo I absolutely agree that it has a nice flow. I love the Stones, and I love this song. All I'm saying is that groovy as the tune may be, the lyrics do not strike me as the kind that I would want to accompany the great moments in a person's life. Honestly I don't know if I could pick a single song that would want for such a variety of occasions.

  • @Ddotsattack Good answer man. I totally agree that the lyrics are a lil bit harsh but the song in whole is amazing.

  • @YohoLindo you guys are right. Lyrics are no fun. But Mick and the boys ALWAYS wanted to show 2 sides of the medal: Love, happiness, hatred, rich people poor people [ remember gimme shelter: rape murder just a kiss away..]... she's a rainbow [1967] , stupid girl [1966] ..

One of the [many] things I admire so much about the band is that they sing about EVERYTHING that can / might happen in life. All d best from Holland

  • @YohoLindo Accidentally posted that on my friend's account, Ddotsattack. I didn't notice that he hadn't logged out.

  • @RenegadeSalmon I guessed it was you :D no problem bro

  • @YohoLindo That's kind weird.

  • @YohoLindo I fell hte same way. I have been a Stones fan the 5th grade,Im now 30. I listen to the Stones every single day! I hope my kids one day learn of this band we know now to be THE BEST ROCK BAND EVER!! PERIOD!! Beatles who?!

  • @MrPAEMT hell yeah man, the stones kick the beatles ass god bless and UP THE IRONS FROM LOUISIANA

  • @TATELANDDOG i agree tatelanddog

  • Beast of a song.

  • What a strange picture.

  • The Stones hit #15 in Billboard, 2-23-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Perfect example of how brass can work in rock! Love it!

  • @62burnley I cant agree more. i only wish that more rock bands could see the potential of horns in they're set : )

  • great song,amazing album!
