  • Play through without commentary?

  • @monkeysrule987654321 No, that's how EVERYONE'S text is like. No need to worry

  • what is the song in the introduction..iv been looking for 2 years!!

  • so i have a question, i downloaded the game and my damn text is all messed up and i cant read half of it, is there anything i can do to fix it? would be great if you could tell me anything you know, thanks! :D

  • @monkeysrule987654321: Same here :(

I want to play but can't like it is.

  • Lun made one amazing RPG Maker game.RPG Maker has a lot of restraints,

and somehow Lun made a near perfect

    game.

  • thanks for repeating what he said you tard

  • This is the best RPG Maker game i ever play ^^ I still have the backup files when i played long ago xD

  • I really hope that Lun does make another game, or tell another story, set in the Way, just because it's a beautiful world. And if not in this same world, I'd love to see a second series just a creative and original.

  • I absolutely love this game...

  • Incredible game! 5 star video, for sure. Better than most "commercial" games.

  • Here's my main issue with this game.

Music is good (though inconsistent), but the story could have been AMAZING! Notice all the groups and conflicts that Lun sets up at the beginning, and then lets them drop. The amazing setting, with the fogs forcing people to constantly migrate, is hardly used at all. He could have put the story he chose in almost any setting, but he chose to waste the ingenious setting. I also wish he'd continued with the theological/philosophical subplots he began.

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean about the groups and conflicts that Lun 'lets drop' - the wider conflicts between and within Gaius, Slade, Strata, Rhue and Traziun are all pretty well fleshed out and brought to their various conclusions.

  • As for the setting, I agree with you quite a ways, but my view is that there's simply not enough time in The Way to fully explore the impact of 'the rolling mists' part of the setting on the mechanics of the universe. (Though at the very least, for the first 3 episodes, Rhue is constantly on the move). I think that's the sort of thing you need a series of books and reference materials (a la LOTR) to give proper justice to.

  • Final reply (cursed YouTube comment caps) -

don't know what you're referring to in terms of the theo/philo subplots, but I will say that I found episode 6 particularly awesome philosophical food-for-thought. I mean, without spoilering things here, surely you found the whole Kleunewrade side-story really damn cool?

  • (Sorry, it's been a few months, so I'm not good on details/names) Sometimes in a story, you have to let what's not necessary go. The Rolling Mists was genius, and I saw it as a life metaphor, and was expecting more philosophy. This expectation was enhanced by Traziun's 'Have you ever considered the Purpose may be an enemy?' comment before they enter that one town. The guided were set up as well-intentioned but flawed, plus other things.

  • I definitely enjoyed the Way a LOT. Thus far, I've had pretty limited exposure to RPGs, but it seems it absolutely deserves the respect it gets among RPG fans. Personally, I think a Blurred Line is probably a bit better. Anyway, I'm not saying I disliked it, just playing devil's advocate a bit. All your points have been duly noted. :)

  • (That's OK, I would be too, except I've just been replaying the game, as I think you noticed ;D)

Thanks for clarifying; I see where you're coming from now. I would have liked to have seen more of those things as well, but I get the impression that Lun's more the "drop in lots of ideas and let you make your own philosophy" sort of storyteller when it comes to the Way. There's all these characters and ideas that are left feeling "unfinished", but that's partly why you keep thinking about them.

  • Yeah, the comment cap is annoying. :P Anyway, like I said, I think the biggest flaw is the wasted opportunity of the setting, but I don't see the coherence, as far as themes. The story is perfectly coherent, but why don't we see the themes continued. Obviously, I realize a lot of it is setting up the twist, but you can't have a twist for it's own sake. A really good twist enhances the themes of any story, not just making the story more interesting. (Hope that's not too much of a spoiler. :/ )

  • It's not too much of a Spolier, but I can't really respond to it without making one, heh. Looks like we'll have to wait until we get to the final vid, eh?

Hmm. I *do* think a lot of your points are valid, but I still don't agree with you. Still, it's good to have some controversy / discussion, especially seeing as I'm LPing to a large number of the converted.

(Also: ABL? I liked it, but talk about hideous MacGuffin abuse.)

  • I think this is where you can tell I've only recently gotten into RPGs. (I have no idea what MacGuffin means, :/ ) So I don't know a lot about the technical aspects. I do think of myself as a good judge of story aspects, however. In this case, ABL has the advantage of not having an ending for me to critique, otherwise I'd probably have very harsh things to say about it as well. :P

  • Mihewelover hit the nail on the head. There were many things that I think should've taken precedence over Estrana, which, IMO, was the weakest part in the game in terms of plot and setting. The world of The Way was a rich, colorful setting waiting to be explored; unfortunately, it was mostly passed over for a dark, modern-esque city...

I'm still hoping Lun gets a whim to make another Way game.

  • Gogogo! Go all The Way!

Superb music, storyline, exceptional features and expressions from the characters. Wonderous game!

Definitely one of my favourite RPG!

  • amazing game

  • Love the Way! Great work getting the word out there. Highly recommend it :-)

  • What was that book you recomended, The Lemon Saga by Dorothy someone? :)

    Please enlighten me.

  • The Lymond Saga by Dorothy Dunnett. Interestingly, it also has 6 'episodes' and the first one is often described as a slow starter.

Although, in terms of structure, The Way is probably more like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead ;D

  • Haha! You've wandered around the bookshelves I see :) Any other good reading you would want to recommend?

  • "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Insightful, charming and really hilarious.

  • best story EVAR

  • I have played the first Episode, maybe I'll try again, I just remember getting smeared by random monsters at one point.

  • Fortunatley, The Way does not feature random encounters. Probably you mentioned about monsters in the cave, where you meet Gaius.

If you're goin to try again, remember - collect and absorb Notch Items ;)

  • Great Game.

    Great Series.

I've played it countless times as well. WAY BETTER THAN SOME MAINSTREAM GAMES.

    I love The Way.

  • You are right, there are 6 episodes not 5. Eiher way, I look forward to seeing your vids on them!!!

  • That´s a surprise for sure. A RPG and TOTS at the same time? Awesomeness-overflow!

  • Hah, glad you think so. I have to get Episode One of The Way out of my system, and we'll see where we go from there.
