@DCleroy I think powerfull or expensive one wouldn't be a good choise... so i have now like my first bike a 150cc cruiser and really cheap but it's totally wonderfull, i mean, is really good to learn ... it is a rebellian vento that cost 23,000 mexico money, in dolar may be 1694.90 and after learn, can sell it easy and buy something little stronger or nicer... I hope this helps :)
@DCleroy honestly i think an 883 isnt a bad start since it's a cruiser, just get something cheap that you wont mind scratching up, cause ALMOST everyone drops their first bike, i fucked up buying a brand new bike.. dropped it on gravel.. just cracked a piece (barely) so it wasnt really that noticeable.. then i had a car pull out in front of me.. so i ended up laying it down there as well.. along with another time when i was almost completely stopped in my driveway.. arriving at my bday party...
no offense but my first bike/ only bike thus far is a 2000 zx6r and its not a big bike but its not small. and people told me the same thing , which is that i should get a 250 to start and work my way up. the problem with that is i knew once i bought a bike i wouldnt be able to afford and still cant afford, to upgrade to a newer faster bike, and i dont want to... i took it easy when learning and ended up having fun with it. i just didnt want to be stuck with a shitter for 3 years.
i took a corner a little too fast and with to much lean some years ago... so i ended in a tree with broken leg in 100kph:/ i lead over the rubber on the tire so i lose grip.. this was with R-type tire... so then i buy ZR tire which is more rounder so you can lean more :) good to check your tires also before you take some risky high speed corners ;)
I hadn't fallen off for about 8 months, so I thought it was time to get something more reliable than my 1988 CBR250R. It just so happened that they had just released the new CBR250RA, so I went and got it. (I decided to stick to a 250 because they're cheap to buy, and cheap to run, and I was on a serious budget) The day I got it, it started raining, and with new tyres on wet roads, I dropped the damn thing...decided to leave it scratched up, makes it feel like its mine. Unique
I hear ya on learning to corner. You once mentioned Twist of the Wrist II in one of your videos, so I checked out the book and the DVD. After finishing them, I just went out on twisty back-roads and tried taking corners faster than I was comfortable with. my ninja 650 did hit 240km/hr no problem and honestly.....where will you ever use the speed of a 1000cc bike. I hit a deer with my bike this friday im not a happy camper.
I thought i was getting to old for bikes, so i got me a yam 1100A drag classic, fullshot all the chrome, the screen the whole ten, ....it has a replacable lead section on the foot boards, first few days, it was bend...scrunch..wtf was that, i am now on my 3rd set of footrests, the lead aint worth a sh,t, wears out in nooooo time.
I got a SV650 for a first bike....had it for 10 months and dropped it twice (and fixed cheap). I just traded it in for a bike which better fits what I want now I've had time to dwell on it...I switched from a sports bike to an adventure/touring style...I got a KTM SMT and am loving it...I get to 100mph a lot faster than the old bike but also feel it and think about slowing down - so although the new bike can go faster than the older one I find myself being more sensible which is much needed
My first bike was a Honda CM125 and I loved that bike, felt well cool on at 18 years old... but looking back it was a little crap. Now on a ER-6F/Ninja 650 and have to agree a 1000 would be cool but to run that knda bike every day in London traffic, nah wouldn't be fun. It does all depend what you want to do with the bike as well as your skill set.
@MrBaller68 Haha, it sounds stupid but, I almost feel I can relate to him, the more I think about it, the more it seems true! When he was looking for a new room-mate, I hit every criteria! But - im a fussy eater, i couldnt cut it in Taiwan! Stills looks like a real nice place! To me, Mordeth is a legend!
For me to ride a sports bike, it would have to have all the plastic crap removed and straight or mild ace bars fitted. Better still Laverda adjustable bars. And for me to ride a cruiser, it would have to be modified in a 20 ton press, then I would sit on the flattened carcass in the back of a truck to the scrap yard! A bike for me, is not called 'retro' or 'classic'. I definitely prefer like to ride naked.
im actually going to look at a 2007 600rr for my first bike tomorrow...im going to spend about $5500 on it..the dealer is trying to get 7000 USD OTD but they can eat a dick. im telling them $5500 USD or walking. Anyway my point is, I love when u said "take it easy" hahahaah so many ppl say that. thats what im planning on doing but im going to go to Willow Springs track out here and haul ass. I heard one day at a track is equal to a season of shit u learn. I was thinkin 250cc at first but..eh :/
but yeah for sure no matter wat im getting the 250r but wat i've heard is dat wen i went to Kawasaki they said due to da tsunami they only send the deliveries to prioty dealship sooo wat weee gonna get Dallas Got sooooo riiiiiight i have to go over there to buy one daaaaaaaaamn it!!!!!!!!!
that chimney is prolly for killing tourist that go to da wrong tour guide. Just like Hostel the movie jejejjeje where they burn n get rid of the evidence of the tourist good thing i say or take pictures of where im going. At least that so whoever finds out about me not coming back can get revenge. well thats me raunting man now u know i do raunt like uuuuu jejejejjee i do that alot i mean my progress reports would say Talkative. all through 1st grade - 8th grade jejeejejeje
hey Mordeth. my parents believe if i get a motorcycle i will crash, and seriously get hurt/die. do you have any tips on how to convince them that i will be a responsible, and careful rider? Thank you
@haguemono try and show a period of restraint first, and help a shit load more about the house and try and act more responsible for yourself, basically show maturity in front of them. if their still against it then i dunno, kill dem?
Oh, my point was: I agree, buy a cheaper bike to start with, it'll do you better in learning how to ride it aggressively, but I don't necessarily agree with the liter bikes are pointless part. I mean yeah, I see what you mean, you'll never use that power 9 times out of 10 - but you do sometimes, it's nice to have when you want it. And for daily driving, I like the R1 over the GSX-R1000s or the Honda Fireblades, it's a very torquey engine, which make sit great for daily and high rev racing.
I have mixed feelings. I started off with a 750 Kat - Kats are good learner bikes. Despite the size, and the fact that it has fairings, it's a sport touring bike, not a super sport bike - It was cheap, too, but had plenty of power. Dropped it twice, as Mordeth said, learning how to ride. I recently bought an R1, and it's just about the same weight (bit heavier) than a CBR600 or R6. Yeah, it can do 105 in 1st, but I can keep it at 4-5k daily and be perfectly happy - power if I need it.
Instant Vid favourite from M13, IMHO, as a beginner, thanks 'cause there a couple of things in this vid I would have never even thought of asking, and the following someone who has more ability is a fantastic advice, I already did that on 4-wheels when I started going to track days and it's a fantastic and fast way of getting go-fast abilities and I'm glad that an experienced rider confirms it can be extrapolated to bikes as well...
And I wish you made this vid before I bought both books! LOL
@Endurence IMHO I'd go for a older 4 cylinder e.g; cbr 250 rr (redlines at 18.5k rpm, 20k limit) or a gixxer 400, omething like that. They are ALOT cheaper to buy, looks better, are more fun, faster and sounds WAY better. Yes you can get a exhaust system for the ninja 250, but even then they pale in comparison to the examples i've stated, you can get full body kits for them aswell to update the look and make them look AMAZING.
So Mordeth, Is a Ninja 250r a good first bike? There's this guy who has one on my road and I want it so bad! I think it's the same or similar to your bike.
@ryanm100100 The 250R is a great first bike. I started on one, you can really flog the hell out of it without launching yourself off a cliff or ending up in the evening news in a helicopter chase video. Plus it's affordable and has friendly/comfortable ergos.
I got a new R6 even though I wanted an R1 the salesman talked me out of it saying its too much for a beginner. i traded it in for an new R1 3 months later, lost 3k on the deal, and come to find out the R1 held the road way better and in my opinion was WAYYY safer to ride. Bottom line. BUY THE BIKE YOU WANT!!!
@IanHimself28 An R6 has better handling, more acceleration at lower speeds, is more fun to ride due to lower gearing...etc. What exactly about the 1000 do you like? The 600 can do 270km/hr and the 1000 can maybe do 290km/hr. Did you get the more expensive, more boring, less agile bike for that extra 20km/hr top end? I've ridden plenty of 1000s and I just don't get them. You have to be doing twice the speed limit on the highway just to hear what your own high rpms sound like.
@13mordeth I disagree with some of your points. Yes, a 600 is more agile and safer to ride. More boring? 270 kmph vs 290 kmph? Negative man. My cbr1000 can climb up to 185mph (its governed speed limit) in no time flat. The bike screams with no hesitation all the way to that speed. No 600 can do that. Plus, I doubt many 600's can even hit that speed. Plus, the 1000 sounds so much better than a 600. Plus, 1000's are made much better and have a higher quality than any 600.
@listensilenthaastile Alright well then thats about 35km/hr quicker top speed. Keeping in mind that if you ever went even near that speed and got caught you'd probably do jail time. And yes once you get over 150km/hr the 1000 still pulls strong....while the 600 starts to slow down. But 1000s sound horrible compared to a 600. First gear goes up to 180km/hr on a 1000.....FIRST GEAR. So even if you were on the highway doing 60mph in first gear.....you still wouldn't be in the high RPMs.
@13mordeth The 1000s have much more torque at lower RPMs, and the new crossplane crank R1s sound wonderful right off idle. I can tell you that riding a Street Triple now after years on a CBR600, on the street torque is everything. Hell you've got a 650R, you must understand that. The R6 has got nothing going on until you're doing 100kph even with the throttle pinned in first gear. Plus it has horrific ergos for the street.
@13mordeth I agree, 1000s do sound like shit. Its literally one tone. 600's scream at 6k and up. 1000's are to heavy and obnoxious. I went from a 08 gsxr 600 for my first bike to a 06 cbr1000rr to a 07 gsxr 600 and now i have a 2008 gsxr 750 and its the perfect bike. Its light and fast.
@13mordeth Hey mordeth, normally I would agree about the sound difference but the new R1s sounds damn sexy with an aftermarket pipe. They have that nice deep throaty mini v8 sound you always talk about.
1. At that speed holding an elbow out will make you slow down 10-15 mph, my point is you need perfect technique
2. You very rarely will ever be going over 100 mph on a freeway, especially a crowded one, and you cannot weave through traffic at 100 with a thousand or more cc bike
3. Your logic and rebuttle of mordeth's points is completely useless, you missed the point
@13mordeth The top speed wasn't the issue, but there's a much larger difference than you described. The R6 toped out at 147MPH if I remember right and the R1 I was able to get to 186MPH once. The R1 with its amazing torque would beat the R6 out of the hole and never look back. No joke, The R1 handled better, felt more agile and held the road like none other. I once drove threw the Adirondacks in a pouring thunderstorm on the R1 and never went below 80mph,
@IanHimself28 ok dude, if you want to go 186 MPH do that but I don't consider that fun at all. Saying that R1 is more agile than R6 is unobjective, especially since R6 is lighter.
It's funny how people like to put things they own as the "best". On this point I definitely agree with m13, 600s are fun and the majority of people can't even use their potential to it's fullest, let alone a 1000's. Until you ride in the fastest group on the track, you shouln't consider a 1000cc bike IMO.
@Kulik0 My veiws are very objective, remember I road them both, and with a weight difference of about 50 pounds(which I would call negligible) I think the suspension and setup of the frame is much more important. Dont forget what I said too. I was talking about a 2 specific bikes down to the make model and year, not saying 1000s are always better than 600s. My whole point is makes your opinions on a bike by bike bassis, because every rider will find different models they will love to ride.
@IanHimself28 Okkkkkkkkk... So two factory setup bikes (or even random setup on a borrowed bike?), tested on public roads by a beginning rider. Yeah I am sure you must be objective...
Probably blaming your lack of skill on the bike (every bike can make a tankslapper no matter how many steering dampeners you bolt to it).
Since you are stuck with the bike, get it setup correctly and take it to a track. You will get powned by 250cc riders but you will learn a lot.
@Kulik0 Dude, are you mad? I like my bike and thats all that matters. Buy and ride whatever makes you happy. My favorite part about my R1 is that it feels like it defies gravity in the corners, so for that fact alone I know that its not as black and white as 600 vs. 1000. And your right, unless it was a power circut I probably would be beat by a very talented rider on very light 250 with a racing setup. Ill take the unrelenting acceleration of an r1 over that any day.
@IanHimself28 I hear you. And you're obviously allowed to like what you want. But as an experienced rider I can tell you that acceleration gets boring fast.....but agility and cornering ability almost always stays fun and fresh. You think acceleration is fun....but you haven't got the experience on an agile bike to compare it to.
@13mordeth Could be true for sure, like I said my only experience was with that one 600 I owned and it was out maneuvered by the R1 I bought, so maybe the R6 just sucked that year, but as long as your having fun, who cares. love your vids Mordeth, watch them all. Hopefully when I have some moeny to spend on a vaca your still doing your tours. Take it easy.
@13mordeth it just stuck to the road like glue. As far as the sound of the bike, topping out the R6 at 17k RPM souded crazy no doubt, but the strait pipe I put on my R1 made harley riders shit their pants, that 4 cylinder has real muscle.
@13mordeth Overall the reason I ended up with that bike was because it was much better all around, the power was amazing and it handled way better than the R6(which I always felt like I was wrestling, even though it weighed 50 pounds less , and tank slapped me at 120MPH once). Mordeth, I think you should ride a NEW R1 and I'm sure you will see what I'm talking about. The old liter bikes are no comparison.
@13mordeth Ohh one last thing, I owned and road both those bikes, so I know what im talking about. Im talking about 2 specific models not 600s vs 1000s in general. and seriously take a new R1 for a spin, ill bet you love it.
@IanHimself28 The R6 is a terrible bike for a beginner. It's a terrible bike on the street, period. There is no legal speed where the motor isn't completely gutless and pathetic. It only starts to pull at 60 in first gear.
@IanHimself28 Buying a bike or car new is silly. The second you acquire the title you've lost money. The only pro to buying new is that you know that every issue with the machine is one that you've created.
I bet that R1 costs more per mile than the R6, before insurance.
Congratulations, you have a 'status symbol' or rather 'debt symbol.'
@JonathanSandusky I bought it because it was the best, not because it was the coolest, god knows there are more Honda fanboys out there, and at around 13k for a brand new one, very affordable too. My advice to you is do what ever makes you happy don't let small differences in price keep you from what you really want.
@IanHimself28 To each their own, and it sounds like you thought about it before you went and did it. I comment as though you were a friend I could be candid with, not actually attacking in anyway.
For a bike, 13k is awful in my mind, but I put in a combined 40-50k (damn 60mi work commute) on bikes a year ... so that's a lot of depreciation to someone like me that rides rain or snow in Ohio.
@IanHimself28 held the road way better? Sure after you had experience on a lower bike. r6 already is one hell of a bike to start with, starting on a thousand you would need to be brainless
@SKStylez No, it held the road better. I always felt like I was fighting the R6. Im not sure if it was the wider rear tire or the suspension/frame design on the R1 that made it feel lighter, aswell as drive a line that made it feel like it was on a rail, but I'm not mistaken. Almost every year models change atleast alittle. Your experience might be different, but overall I think anyone can learn how to ride the bike they want if they can show some restraint.
My first bike was a Honda CBR125. I still have it. I still love it. I've crashed it, dropped it, it's been run over by cars. It still goes, and it's a lot of fun!
My first bike was a yamaha dtr 125 2-stroke enduro bike, incredibly fun! It was 3 years old though so doesn't follow your guidelines exactly but I did learn a lot, luckily I never crashed although there were many, many close calls mostly due to me still learning how to ride properly. I quickly learnt enduro bike brakes are awful when you need to stop in an emergency.
Still want to get a 250 in the next couple years. Friends say they are for pussies I half agree but its better than a cage, cheeper, and more ridable.
I bought a ninja 250 this spring as my first bike because it's cheaper and easy to control. I've road over 2k miles in windy, rainy, and even snowy weather and the only time I almost dropped it was stopping in my driveway. If you're worried about speed don't. I've got mine to 115 mph more than once and can easily out accelerate almost every car out there.
The best is M13's mental breaks while riding. I specifically started watching the videos for a helmet view of riding on a bike for some memory of what it was like riding with my dad. I have a hard time not gripping into fists and twisting hard, and turning, and leaning with M13. Lawl.
Great biking advice. First place I'm going to into M13 catalog to rewatch the old advice videos and "First Bike" series. Twist of the Wrist 2. Hope that is at Borders.
MORDETH13 THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT. I BOUGHT A 20k racing bike and broke my leg n front bike shit first day. but then i got back on and its fun as fuck :D
A twist of the Wrist 2 is a great book, It goes into great depth on how to overcome your survival reactions, which make you do the wrong thing in a corner. It educates the physics of what is going on with a bike in different situations, enabling you to make the correct decisions on what to do in different circumstances. However, there is a glossary on every other page explaining what certain terms mean, including words like "technology" and "acceleration" . You are treated as being pretty dumb.
@guitardude12345 You can lean and lean and lean until the side of the bike is scraping against the pavement.....and then you can still lean a tiny bit more.
I totally agree with picking up a used bike to start. I picked up a used Kawasaki Z750S as my first bike for learning/commuting. I had ridden dirt bikes, but took 10 years off from bikes before getting into street. It was a good blend of sports/touring. My friend started on a Ninja 650R and loves it still.
too many people start with a fast bike, and wreck it anyway. im still on my first bike (2001 Buell blast) and im ready to upgrade, but until i can take corners like Nickey hayden, im sticking with my crappy slow bike.
@marino4691 how old are you? there are two stroke bikes at least i know aprilia does have 250cc bike 2 stroke, but mostly it was 10 years ago (more or less) that 2 stroke bikes existed. if i'm wrong feel free to correct me. anyone can join to the conversation............ :-)
that must be a badass biker bar in foriegn countries. there's a bunch of mopeds and 250's in the parking lot.

Best bike to start out a 125 2-stroke.
Accelerates in 6 seconds to 60mph and goes up to 180-190kph.(=110-115mph?)

HELPMEIDUNNOHOWTOUSE 10 months ago
Oh, my point was: I agree, buy a cheaper bike to start with, it'll do you better in learning how to ride it aggressively, but I don't necessarily agree with the liter bikes are pointless part. I mean yeah, I see what you mean, you'll never use that power 9 times out of 10 - but you do sometimes, it's nice to have when you want it. And for daily driving, I like the R1 over the GSX-R1000s or the Honda Fireblades, it's a very torquey engine, which make sit great for daily and high rev racing.
MrSlowestD16 10 months ago

LOL

im planning to get a ninja 250r 2008 what do you think mord?
Endurence 10 months ago
@Endurence IMHO I'd go for a older 4 cylinder e.g; cbr 250 rr (redlines at 18.5k rpm, 20k limit) or a gixxer 400, omething like that. They are ALOT cheaper to buy, looks better, are more fun, faster and sounds WAY better. Yes you can get a exhaust system for the ninja 250, but even then they pale in comparison to the examples i've stated, you can get full body kits for them aswell to update the look and make them look AMAZING.
Sonaris100 10 months ago
@Sonaris100 hmm thanks i'll look into it!
Endurence 10 months ago
So Mordeth, Is a Ninja 250r a good first bike? There's this guy who has one on my road and I want it so bad! I think it's the same or similar to your bike.
ryanm100100 10 months ago
@ryanm100100 The 250R is a great first bike. I started on one, you can really flog the hell out of it without launching yourself off a cliff or ending up in the evening news in a helicopter chase video. Plus it's affordable and has friendly/comfortable ergos.
aluisious 10 months ago
I got a new R6 even though I wanted an R1 the salesman talked me out of it saying its too much for a beginner. i traded it in for an new R1 3 months later, lost 3k on the deal, and come to find out the R1 held the road way better and in my opinion was WAYYY safer to ride. Bottom line. BUY THE BIKE YOU WANT!!!
IanHimself28 10 months ago 6
@IanHimself28 An R6 has better handling, more acceleration at lower speeds, is more fun to ride due to lower gearing...etc. What exactly about the 1000 do you like? The 600 can do 270km/hr and the 1000 can maybe do 290km/hr. Did you get the more expensive, more boring, less agile bike for that extra 20km/hr top end? I've ridden plenty of 1000s and I just don't get them. You have to be doing twice the speed limit on the highway just to hear what your own high rpms sound like.
13mordeth 10 months ago 31
@13mordeth I disagree with some of your points. Yes, a 600 is more agile and safer to ride. More boring? 270 kmph vs 290 kmph? Negative man. My cbr1000 can climb up to 185mph (its governed speed limit) in no time flat. The bike screams with no hesitation all the way to that speed. No 600 can do that. Plus, I doubt many 600's can even hit that speed. Plus, the 1000 sounds so much better than a 600. Plus, 1000's are made much better and have a higher quality than any 600.
listensilenthaastile 10 months ago
@listensilenthaastile Alright well then thats about 35km/hr quicker top speed. Keeping in mind that if you ever went even near that speed and got caught you'd probably do jail time. And yes once you get over 150km/hr the 1000 still pulls strong....while the 600 starts to slow down. But 1000s sound horrible compared to a 600. First gear goes up to 180km/hr on a 1000.....FIRST GEAR. So even if you were on the highway doing 60mph in first gear.....you still wouldn't be in the high RPMs.
13mordeth 10 months ago 18
@13mordeth The 1000s have much more torque at lower RPMs, and the new crossplane crank R1s sound wonderful right off idle. I can tell you that riding a Street Triple now after years on a CBR600, on the street torque is everything. Hell you've got a 650R, you must understand that. The R6 has got nothing going on until you're doing 100kph even with the throttle pinned in first gear. Plus it has horrific ergos for the street.
aluisious 10 months ago
@13mordeth I have never ever ever seen a 100 that does 180 kmh in first gear. That would be fricking bad ass though.
bikeaddiction94 10 months ago
@13mordeth I agree, 1000s do sound like shit. Its literally one tone. 600's scream at 6k and up. 1000's are to heavy and obnoxious. I went from a 08 gsxr 600 for my first bike to a 06 cbr1000rr to a 07 gsxr 600 and now i have a 2008 gsxr 750 and its the perfect bike. Its light and fast.
jeenyus720 10 months ago
@13mordeth Hey mordeth, normally I would agree about the sound difference but the new R1s sounds damn sexy with an aftermarket pipe. They have that nice deep throaty mini v8 sound you always talk about.
TheNewwt 10 months ago
@13mordeth I have to agree, a 600 sounds WAY better. Search up CBR 600rr, best sounding bike imo.
feAr636 10 months ago
@listensilenthaastile You have never, and I repeat NEVER GONE faster than 140,
1. At that speed holding an elbow out will make you slow down 10-15 mph, my point is you need perfect technique
2. You very rarely will ever be going over 100 mph on a freeway, especially a crowded one, and you cannot weave through traffic at 100 with a thousand or more cc bike
3. Your logic and rebuttle of mordeth's points is completely useless, you missed the point
jbat3535 10 months ago
@listensilenthaastile Hi guys paste this title into search bar its probably one of the best comparisons i have ever seen just what its all about!!
Fastbikes ZX-12R vs Hayabusa vs SuperBlackbird
solomonstemplers 10 months ago
@13mordeth The top speed wasn't the issue, but there's a much larger difference than you described. The R6 toped out at 147MPH if I remember right and the R1 I was able to get to 186MPH once. The R1 with its amazing torque would beat the R6 out of the hole and never look back. No joke, The R1 handled better, felt more agile and held the road like none other. I once drove threw the Adirondacks in a pouring thunderstorm on the R1 and never went below 80mph,
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 ok dude, if you want to go 186 MPH do that but I don't consider that fun at all. Saying that R1 is more agile than R6 is unobjective, especially since R6 is lighter.
It's funny how people like to put things they own as the "best". On this point I definitely agree with m13, 600s are fun and the majority of people can't even use their potential to it's fullest, let alone a 1000's. Until you ride in the fastest group on the track, you shouln't consider a 1000cc bike IMO.
Kulik0 10 months ago
@Kulik0 My veiws are very objective, remember I road them both, and with a weight difference of about 50 pounds(which I would call negligible) I think the suspension and setup of the frame is much more important. Dont forget what I said too. I was talking about a 2 specific bikes down to the make model and year, not saying 1000s are always better than 600s. My whole point is makes your opinions on a bike by bike bassis, because every rider will find different models they will love to ride.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 Okkkkkkkkk... So two factory setup bikes (or even random setup on a borrowed bike?), tested on public roads by a beginning rider. Yeah I am sure you must be objective...
Probably blaming your lack of skill on the bike (every bike can make a tankslapper no matter how many steering dampeners you bolt to it).
Since you are stuck with the bike, get it setup correctly and take it to a track. You will get powned by 250cc riders but you will learn a lot.
Kulik0 10 months ago
@Kulik0 Dude, are you mad? I like my bike and thats all that matters. Buy and ride whatever makes you happy. My favorite part about my R1 is that it feels like it defies gravity in the corners, so for that fact alone I know that its not as black and white as 600 vs. 1000. And your right, unless it was a power circut I probably would be beat by a very talented rider on very light 250 with a racing setup. Ill take the unrelenting acceleration of an r1 over that any day.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 I hear you. And you're obviously allowed to like what you want. But as an experienced rider I can tell you that acceleration gets boring fast.....but agility and cornering ability almost always stays fun and fresh. You think acceleration is fun....but you haven't got the experience on an agile bike to compare it to.
13mordeth 10 months ago
@13mordeth Could be true for sure, like I said my only experience was with that one 600 I owned and it was out maneuvered by the R1 I bought, so maybe the R6 just sucked that year, but as long as your having fun, who cares. love your vids Mordeth, watch them all. Hopefully when I have some moeny to spend on a vaca your still doing your tours. Take it easy.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@13mordeth it just stuck to the road like glue. As far as the sound of the bike, topping out the R6 at 17k RPM souded crazy no doubt, but the strait pipe I put on my R1 made harley riders shit their pants, that 4 cylinder has real muscle.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@13mordeth Overall the reason I ended up with that bike was because it was much better all around, the power was amazing and it handled way better than the R6(which I always felt like I was wrestling, even though it weighed 50 pounds less , and tank slapped me at 120MPH once). Mordeth, I think you should ride a NEW R1 and I'm sure you will see what I'm talking about. The old liter bikes are no comparison.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@13mordeth Read those in reverse order, lol.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@13mordeth Ohh one last thing, I owned and road both those bikes, so I know what im talking about. Im talking about 2 specific models not 600s vs 1000s in general. and seriously take a new R1 for a spin, ill bet you love it.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 The R6 is a terrible bike for a beginner. It's a terrible bike on the street, period. There is no legal speed where the motor isn't completely gutless and pathetic. It only starts to pull at 60 in first gear.
aluisious 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 Buying a bike or car new is silly. The second you acquire the title you've lost money. The only pro to buying new is that you know that every issue with the machine is one that you've created.
I bet that R1 costs more per mile than the R6, before insurance.
Congratulations, you have a 'status symbol' or rather 'debt symbol.'
JonathanSandusky 10 months ago
@JonathanSandusky I bought it because it was the best, not because it was the coolest, god knows there are more Honda fanboys out there, and at around 13k for a brand new one, very affordable too. My advice to you is do what ever makes you happy don't let small differences in price keep you from what you really want.
IanHimself28 10 months ago
@IanHimself28 To each their own, and it sounds like you thought about it before you went and did it. I comment as though you were a friend I could be candid with, not actually attacking in anyway.
For a bike, 13k is awful in my mind, but I put in a combined 40-50k (damn 60mi work commute) on bikes a year ... so that's a lot of depreciation to someone like me that rides rain or snow in Ohio.

@IanHimself28 held the road way better? Sure after you had experience on a lower bike. r6 already is one hell of a bike to start with, starting on a thousand you would need to be brainless
SKStylez 10 months ago
@SKStylez No, it held the road better. I always felt like I was fighting the R6. Im not sure if it was the wider rear tire or the suspension/frame design on the R1 that made it feel lighter, aswell as drive a line that made it feel like it was on a rail, but I'm not mistaken. Almost every year models change atleast alittle. Your experience might be different, but overall I think anyone can learn how to ride the bike they want if they can show some restraint.

BuffaloWarrior7 10 months ago
I bought a ninja 250 this spring as my first bike because it's cheaper and easy to control. I've road over 2k miles in windy, rainy, and even snowy weather and the only time I almost dropped it was stopping in my driveway. If you're worried about speed don't. I've got mine to 115 mph more than once and can easily out accelerate almost every car out there.
DryUrEyesM8 10 months ago
you should have recommended a dual sport as a first bike, 9/10 if you drop it all that needs replacing is a clutch / front brake leaver.
