i am at the peak of enjoyment watching Alex and realizes at the end that i am just watching part of the memories he lived behind when he passed away, I caught myself in tears.
I read this first in People's Magazine 1000 Greatest Pop Culture Moments, where it read: " "You be good; see you tomorrow. I love you." Alex, an African grey parrot whose facility with language startled scientists utters his last words and dies in his sleep at 31." and I wanted to cry, so I searched this up, and well, now I'm crying.
There is never a good enough reason for animals not to live in their natural environment, playing with nature is cruel and should be unacceptable, at least now Alex is at peace, probably the kindest place for him. God damn people who cage animals for their own satisfaction. I have caged birds purely because I rescued them, I wish I could set them free but they would not survive in an outdoor environment because of what people have done to them :( Instead I have to painfully care for them.
Alex was a living soul with a personality, wants, needs, hopes and aspirations.
My belief system would require that I call him a HE...not lessen him, and call him an "It".
The only thing that makes me cringe worse than that is when I hear parents call their children "it". Trust me when I tell you that that happens with frightening regularity.
That's sad I was watching the husky say I love you til I saw this bird Alex in the Suggestion video's and hes way better than the husky I saw. It's really heart breaking that a sweet bird like that dies.
I just found out about this amazing bird today and would like to see him further developed, unfortunately it died about 3 years ago on the day of my birthday. T_T

@Brady2k10 i SO AGREE WITH YOU BRO ITS ANIMAL IF IT SAYS IT WANTS TO GO BACK MAKE IT GO BACK DON'T FORCE IT LEARN MORE. iT JUST LIKE WEN school ends and you wanna go home but you have to stay longer for no reason.

I knew him at a young age, and he has passed away. It's already been two years now... but I know now that Alex is in a better place along with my own parakeet. :')
All of the words that parrots say are based on association. This woman is mistaking intelligence with coincidence. @japesjake meh, i tend to be optimistic and say that this parrot and many other animals is capable of learning what we can. besides, we are animals ourselves
@japesjake oi wanker ! its fact that the african greys are extremely intelligent, its a shame cant say the same for you,,,,,,,,,,,, your brains are in your pin dick... hanging between your legs!!!!! you dumb arse prick !!!!!
@japesjake Then explain this - How is it that a parrot that can only "mimic words" can tell you how many of a specific color object, or a specific shape of object, or both are on a tray, let alone what material an object is made out of? If you were to ask this bird what it wanted to eat, it would also tell you, and Alex would even apologize to her when he sensed that he upset her. That's kinda hard for an ordinary bird to do.
And Griffin is also doing the same thing. Last I heard, he was

She recalls the bird said: "You be good. I love you." She responded, "I love you, too." The bird said, "You'll be in tomorrow," and she responded, "Yes, I'll be in tomorrow."
i think alex knows that he is gonna die that night T.T
Except Alex could actually understand the questions and understood what he was saying, not just mimicing like other parrots. That's the impressive part.
Alex is a dude, and the experiments are quite meaningful and in the name of good science. I'm sure they took good care of him and that he enjoyed the company of humans even though he probably should've gotten some interactions with the other parrots.
Age has nothing to do with intellect; in any way shape or form. Sure, you might be smart, but how does that affect your body? He was a parrot, not a medical doctor that could understand it.
Ya animals have minds, you would be surprised how smart most animals are compared to what we think, not as smart as us but much smarter then you think.
Gosh what fucking torment it must've been for the poor parrot. That senseless woman (the psychologist) doing all sorts of experiments on him. He wants to go back he says.. Her response was probably "Back in the cage, SWEETY!" I dislike people that do that to animals.
He obviously had a good understanding of the words he was saying so he wouldn't have told her he loved her unless he really meant it. The Night before he died he said "I love you."
I'm absolutely sure he did. "I wanna go home" convinced me the other way around. If they had filmed the "I love you bit" and give some visual proof, I would be more convinced of that fact. Since they offer none, though, I'll stick to my opinion.
Stop being so naieve, that parrot was pampered and looked after incredibly well. He was worth a lot to her and her research team. I've owned and looked after parrots and in knowing more about them I can tell what they were doing was hardly "sensless" or difficult for him in any way. Try refraining from buying makeup or leather coats... now that is REAL animal cruelty.
1) If you're trying to present an answer in an intelligent sort of way, try spelling the words correctly.
2) I don't buy leather or makeup, for your information, and I am against animal cruelty.
What was done there was pure experiment. Look at it that way, if you were grown and taught in an artificial environment, you'd see the people around you in a different way than if you were snatched from your natural habitat. Taking the freedom away from a creature is senseless and difficult.
I don't need any proof. I have a Grey sitting across the room from me right now. I am #1 in his world, and he is #1 in mine. He "tolerates" others, but could easily do without them. He was 7 yrs. old when I got him. He is now 14. He never bonded with the woman that raised him. He instantly bonded with me. Figure it out.
Oh Gosh. The youtube war rages on. I have a doberman. Another 20000000 in this world might have dobermans. Some of them go crazy and kill their owners. You got a mentally ill parrot. Enjoy the bonding! Take care.
Greys need at least 2 to 3 hours EVERY DAY out of their cages, and in your company. Greys do have the tendency to have a bit of an attitude from time to time. They're GENERALLY not as loving as a Cockatoo, but are much more personal than a Macaw. BUT - I got lucky. Conrad, my Grey is as loving, attentive and as intelligent as he can be. He has never once tried to bite me, and if you know Greys, that is an accomplishment. I am, indeed, a lucky African Grey Parrot owner.
or maybe the 5 people just disliked the death of alex.... ignorant sluts.

Intelligence is not a guarantee of long life. Certain animals are likely to live longer than others. Some Sharks can live up to 100 years.

Two things:

The parrot really said "See you tomorrow, I love you" before he died? That's really depressing. D: So sweet. Poor thing.

That is not depressing, that is cute . It was depressing if they were mad on each other before he died .
