"And the first will be last/And the last be first" Sort of a nice, contradictory way of explaining Marxism. Clearly, preference will still exist even if they overthrow the elite.
I think they exluded this song because although this one suits Pechik's political obsession but Now I Have Everything expands the character beyond just politics showing his more human side.
If I were to mount a production of Fiddler, I would almost certainly use this song in the place 'And now I have everything'. I find this one far more stirring, and suited to Perchik's character. Also, it contrasts nicely with Tevje and Golde's 'Do you love me?' which I believe is the song immediately before.
Not a bad song but having played Perchik on stage myself, I prefer "Now I Have Everything" although the dialogue in the play right before the song is awkward. Perchik still should have gotten a song of his own in the movie. Wonder why it was cut.
A true idealistic song that brings hope to the heart. It is a shame that they had to cut this out of this film - would have given more bulk to the character and the romance! I am a sucker for revolutions, sadly being English we don't go in for them much!
You know, as beautiful and sweet a song as "Now I Have Everything" is, this song is really so much better suited for Perchik's character. I wish this were used in performance more often, and I really wish they hadn't cut it out of the movie.
has it ever been used in a performance? I would have loved to seen it, seeing as i was hodel in my high school version and we used 'now i have everything'
@mantiXcore I love this song however I think I do understand why they cut it from the movie. He sings here that he will soon see hodel and they will be happy etc. and we know that they shall be together soon. But in the movie when Hodel waits for her train she is going to an unknown place and we don't know what will happen to her, which I guess makes the scene more dramatic.
I'm not exactly sure but hes singing about being in jail so its obviously after he leaves and before Hodel joins him which both happen in Act II.But yeah, I think the song had good potential and I wish they had given it to Paul Glaser.
Myeh, I like Perchik's song from the show better. Maybe this one's just poor quality...

This song could be used as a pro gay marriage anthem.

Didn't Paul Glaser have a beautiful voice? Pity it was omitted from the movie - what a stupid thing to do!

It is sad. It's not like Paul Micheal Glaser has a bad voice. Oh well. =/
