This is indeed a well thought out and entertaining series. You take practical and creative ideas away from it and that is what this should be all about. Keep up the good work!

Boring!!! same photo, same amatuar pose!!... the camera makes it easy to take that kinda boring lighting so why are guys like this so looked up to, because most people lack creative understanding as consumers dont create/make, they buy!!,,, and find comfort in mediocrity
where are your creations? You offer up words without anything to show, why? There are always so many people like you ready to bash other people yet offer nothing themselves. Please put the keyboard down sir we have enough armchair quarterbacks as it is!
A shoot-thru umbrella will soften and spread the light. Witout, the light will be harder/harsher. The snoot tightens the beam so theres a lot less spill.
Quality Bert ... I'm a big fan of using off camera speedlights on location, and im often making light modifiers out of card, toilet roll tubes and scrap myself ... good stuff
this guy is a mastermind at off camera flash. I've been trying his techniques for months with little success. not the best teacher ever, he's leaving out a LOT of important details, like white balance ... flash is blue, sunlight is orange, how does he deal with that??
Yeah, natural sunlight, not shaded areas or overcast. Also when you have camera models lower than Canon Mark II's or Nikon D3's they tend to not handle white balance very well.
Nice technique, this is a photographer who really really really knows whats his doing and apart from that he has all the nice gears, lucky bastard and he can draw too. Very talented indeed.
tho i'm still having trouble with measuring the output power of the flash.. can you plz tell us what was ur aperture, shutter speed, and power output?
Your amazing!! I want to be as good as you are someday
I'm just starting. I have a Nikon D200 and I'm having so much fun learning all that you can do. I'm about to buy some flashes and lighting. I'm so excited. You are a great teacher. Please post more video's

I don't have a 1D neither a D3...
Its the photographer, not the camera.
Bert now has 2 1D's but the camera you see on the video was his 30D...
Shoot in raw and use CTO's.

what would you recommened for portraits. the Canon EF 85mm F/1.8 or the Canon EF 100mm F2???????????????
61862006 3 years ago
Depends if you're on a 1.6x body or Full frame. 85mm is really tight on a crop body, so go with that if you have one of them.
