when i was little, my mom told me that if i climbed into the front seat of the car, the police would come to arrest me. then, as i am even now, i hated getting in trouble, so this prospect just absolutely terrified me. one day we were in the boston market parking lot, and my mom asked me to grab her purse out of the front seat. so i did. and what happened? a police car pulled into the parking lot. then i passed out. *facepalm* thanks, mom
OMG my mom used to do this to me but she wouldn't take me to the bridge where all the homeless kids were and she would say that i'm going to end up there if i didn't behave. lol
i was sent to jail "a corner in my dining room" when i was a child too. i spent most of my childhood there and in the hall at school from 3rd to 5th grade, and some of 7th too. hmm, i would just sit outside the class and talk to the people walking by while drawing on the wall. that whole sit in the hallway tactic doesnt work, especially since i would have rather been in the hallway than learning math anyway.
I haven't reached that point in parenting, but I have a feeling it's coming. It is just a threat tactic to try to get your child to hopefully behave. Your mom took that extra step by actually driving you to the police station. And how lucky was she that a little girl happened to be going in there at that moment! But did it work? Were you an angel from that moment on? Or did the tantrums continue? So many questions because I may need to use this myself one day, you see.
Being a single parent isn't easy, but taking a moment to empathize helps the situation a lot. Obviously an office isn't child friendly, so the father's job was to make it so. He didn't. Instead he only saw the whole situation from his own perspective.
But he gave you a story to tell us. And you could read the NY Phone Book to me and I'd be happy. Gershowitz E 76th St New York, NY. Try it.
Now, I have an arrest warrant with your name on it, young lady! ;)
Oh my, brings back childhood memories. Threats of solitary confinement & station wagons adorned with wood paneling. It's almost like we grew up in the same house.
My parents knew all the police in our town, so when mom pulled that on us, she just walked us out side and we watched as the police pulled up and walked over to us to tell us all about how we can go to jail for alot of things like talking back to your mom, not raking the leaves and not doing our homework. ever since then i twitch when ever a cop car goes past me when i am out side my house! :)
my mom did the same exact thing. Totally parked in front of the police station after i was being "problematic".....that fucking terrified me, i will not forget that one
we middle kids are always a little crAzY AMIRITE?1!!1 *ahem* anyway, yeah i gave my parents hell occasionally as well.

That...that is not a common tactic.
