  • This was very informative. VERY informative. I have a no gi tournament coming up on 2/12/12 and this will help out a lot. I've been watching your videos for a while but never bothered to subscribe... Until now **subscribed**

  • you know there is a variation to this where you dont have to leave yourself exposed to a mount...when you scoop you hand in..grand your lapel and pull his hand out so its not stopping at his stomach, then push foreward as to touch your ear to his ear..and that leaves you on your knees and your right hand free to push his left knee down and you pass the guard and take his back....im not trying to be a youtube expert..its just in case anyone was wondering about the mount thing.

  • Interesting. Seems like handing them a sweep though.

  • We just did this today!! Great move

  • F'n amazing!!! pulled it off today ! Thanks Keith Owen!! Great stuff!!!

  • I gotta have more cowbell! Uh, I mean Patches! I gotta have more patches!

  • wtf my opponent's guard remains closed when i roll there's no way i can execute this

  • wtf my opponent's guard remains closed when i roll there's no way i cant execute this

  • great counter that would make opponent look like fool. seems a little 2 risky though, putting self in a bad position

  • What's with people saying it won't work? Obviously not all moves work at times. Keith is just showing a possibility of countering Kimura.

  • You shouldn't be able to roll if the Kimura is properley executed.

  • @iGreekSalad that's true but there are very few times when your opponent executes it quickly enough that you can't do something to counter it. if you wait until the move is completed you are pretty much screwed. you have to act preemptively so he CAN'T execute it properly.

  • I questioned this move when I first watched the video. But, I pulled off the escape with the same concept of relieving pressure from the kimura. Instead of finishing the submission as Keith shows, right when I ended up in the same position as Keith @ 2:08, I took the back instead. Same concept, I could see how this move would work maybe. And it was a no gi match I did this in

  • Keith Owen seems like a great guy and profesor.. very nice vid.. :)

  • Defending the kimura at the end seems doable. But the real problem here is that you first have do get out of full guard by sacrificing getting mounted. And then, from lying on your side and partly on your back, and with your body between his legs, you have to get the leg closest to the ground and most trapped between his legs, out and over his legs. This will be a major problem.

  • @lorentzus just do it. As is with many moves when you see them, they don't look like they should work. I have hit this in rolling live and also have had it done on me as well. Great addition to the tool box!

  • @Submissions101

I will. But what I meant, was that I wished Keith could explain and adress in detail what you really must focus in order to get this working. Like controlling the opponents upper thigh and shrimping out, and that timing is essential.

  • @lorentzus oh, got yeah. I actually had a long talk with Keith about this move and those exact questions. The problem with all videos is that they cannot answer questions that arise after you watch them ;-(

  • That is sweet! Guess I am gonna go try this on my oldest boy.

  • Nice Reversal ...I'll drill this in practice tomorrow

  • does this work for no gi as well?

  • omg....NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @nizepart0519 some people call it a shoulder rotation rather than a kimura but pretty much yeah

  • i deffinatly like this but im probably goin to substitute the kimura for an omoplata in my opinion it gives u alot more leverage

  • @knowles747 against a decent grappler omoplata's are much harder to finish however if you can't finish from position then swich to the omoplata to get to sprawl control or even back mount maybe,

    peace

  • Where is your class at

  • sweet

  • nice. i wish i could give this two thumbs up.

  • Does this guy has an academy in Canada?

  • @Dudongo86 Keith Owen's school is in Boise Idaho. He has an affiliate school in Victoria BC ;-)

  • @Dudongo86 and there is a 10th Planet JJ school in montreal. It is not owned by Keith or Ari, but its under Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet Banner.

  • @turmat01 O Thank's I have nothing against 10th planet but I was meaning a BJJ school, I like to train kimono.

  • @Dudongo86 there is quite a lot of schools that teach BJJ. 10th planet JJ schools are rare, I think they all need to be accepted by Eddie, and he won't let anybody put his name on a school, but regular BJJ schools are everywhere!

  • @turmat01 Well, I don't wanna start a discussion but I am looking for one of those schools that are everywhere, I 'll guess I'll check the Owen affiliate.

  • @Dudongo86 thats all right! I don't beleive any martial art is better than the others. there is simply one that fits a given invidual better than the others. For me its kickboxing and 10th Planet JJ, for a buddy of mine its Kyokushin, and for another buddy of mine its wingchun(sp?) Kung Fu. For you its BJJ, and thats fine! I'm not closed to this, I prefer nogi, but I'd never say no to a seminar given by Keith, as he looks to be an awesome guy!

  • @Dudongo86 send me an email bro ;-)

  • @turmat01 Louis Ho is the head instructor..great guy!

  • @Submissions101 indeed! very nice guy!

  • @Dudongo86 hey u should go to a 10th planet school its way better

  • @MrPOKEMAN627 Again, it is nothing against Eddie's representatives in Canada, I just like BJJ.

  • @Dudongo86 We teach both my friend. To each their own. Do what makes you happy!!!!

  • @MrPOKEMAN627 Neither is better than the other. Do both ;-) You see, BJJ and 10th Planet can live together. WE teach both at our school and Keith Owen is 10th Planet friendly at his BJJ school!

  • wow. this is great. iv seen this b4, but not like this.

  • @ph33ric Yeah me too, but it's usually done against standing Kimura attempt. Catch Wrestlers use this too against the Double wrist lock. Cool Tech!

  • thx master Owen very interesting

  • Thats awesome man ...

  • I like this!! I would have to say what is really critical, is not to let your opponent step across your body and get full mount.. If you can stop that and trap the leg down with yours its smooth sailing from there!! lol

  • this move just blows my mind, it amazingly out the box thinking!

  • Thanks for the video, I am new to BJJ and I'm totally hooked, thank you for defensive move/techniques will help me heaps.

    Thanks again

  • @exyle0 yeah man noones ever gona get me in a kimura now. unless they rly good.

  • raw

  • Awesome. Ari, you and Keith are the shit. You guys are making my jits unstoppable.

  • sexy

  • I like

  • excellent

  • excellent..

  • Keith Owen - the best teacher in jujitsu today.

  • I love your videos Owen !

  • Very good camera angles and explanation.

  • Nice. Thanks for this. =)

  • this is so awsome I wish I could have keith as my teacher

  • I will try it tomorrow at judo.

  • Grab the inside of your thigh. They do it in UFC all the time. Not sure if its more effective than grabbing the belly but it can defend kimuras somewat. DJS1etc. (srry ur name is long) XP PS Watch the Clay Guid vs Diego Sanchez fight. Diego does this everytime guida takes him down and Guid just grabs his inner thigh. GL and hope this helps

  • what do you do if the guy trying to give you the kimura keeps his guard closed the whole time?

  • @aaboi You can't create the space from the bottom to sit up and go far enough over the top guy's shoulder to reach in for the Kimura unless you sit your hips out some, which usually requires you to open your guard..

  • how would (or could) the first part work without a gi? If you are bared and sweaty I don't think that would work....

  • @DJS12345678 what I mean is that is that how do you ensure you don't slip?

  • @DJS12345678 certainly more tough nogi but your option would be 'hand on your belly' instead if grabbing the belt.

  • @Submissions101 what kind of mats do you guys have in this dojo?

  • @Submissions101 You are not supposed to grab the shorts of you opponent but try grabbing your own.

  • @DJS12345678 , when i'm on my back, and someone tries to kimura me from halfguard, I lift my leg behind my elbow to use it as a back stop. You have to be moderately to very flexible though. Plus, if they commit too much, you can get a triangle.

  • @DJS12345678 Dont ask a dumb question. of course ppl wearing a gi aren't teaching nogi techniques. sometimes Gi stuff transfers over, most times, ( because of the grips) Gi jits doesn't transfer over to nogi Jits. Depending on the situation both are applicable to street fights. Everyone doing Jits should do both Gi and no Gi to understand fully the art of ground fighting.

  • @quicklikeabunny666 don't be a douche, I'm just asking. I explained myself in another comment, because I thought someone would think I meant that in a bad way so read that first. This looks like a great move, and I just wanted to know if you could do it nogi.

  • @DJS12345678 Sorry dude, you know how it gets behind a keyboard. Being a douche and all. Respect.

  • @DJS12345678 Look up "Standing Double Wristlock Counter" Here on Youtube and you'll see it done No-Gi.

  • @DJS12345678 He said grab something, try to reach to your shorts or shirt I guess...

  • @TheMartialWay100 he said u needed to grab ur belt but u can also grab ur hand or ur latch to ur stomach to pull a kimura on the oppenent

  • @DJS12345678 grabbing the inside of your leg or grab your shorts

  • nice vid guyz
