  • Actually, habitat fragmentation increases the amount of biodiversity in an area. Habitat LOSS lowers biodiversity. Habitat fragmentation and habitat loss are not the same thing. Fragmentation is simply the breaking apart of habitat. Habitat loss is the complete removal of habitat. Species can still survive (and some species even thrive) in fragmented habitats if the habitat fragments are close enough to each other. However, species can't survive if their habitats are completely cleared.
