  • @1:27 haha the Fighter has my name XD Yeah the ones prior to X were mostly the best, aside from my downfall games II and III, but 3D and hi def names, such as XII and XIII dont have to be slandered just because they were different, fans of Tactics will agree XII was pretty good in it's own right/battle mechanics,as bad as i was at the game. XIII wasn't the best but it had a somewhat decent story imo.Just like for FFI however, i wouldn't count Squareenix out, maybe they pull another saving grace!

  • Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III (SNES) are THE musical masterpieces of the 8-bit era.

  • @JSynon Ummmm..... 16bit maybe?

  • Why don't americans use subtitles?? I wanna hear he's voice! He's a living legend!

  • @shamif Because americans don't like reading

  • @spordespora It's true and it's sad because subtitles are also good way to learn language when you watch them in your own language (whatever it is) and hear same thing in japanese.. Americans are lazy :P I wish they could start using subtitles..

  • This fellow is a real deal genius. Best video game composer ever by a mile. Modern video games just don't have the soul that Nobuo's games did.

  • he is one of my idles. long live Uematsu, wish i could meet him !!!

  • i wanna marry that asian girl

  • Why is this the first time I'm hearing of Legend?

  • holy shit.... I remember watching this on tv, and ya when G4 was awesome.

  • why did he leave the team god dammit

  • His music gave emotion to the games better than the voice acting ever will.

Now they try to rely on vaguely describing recycled concepts to add atmosphere.

But in English it just sounds like a poorly translated anime.

  • love the battle theme from the original

  • @MrMok5000 FF7 was the start of the series' rapid decline. Still, it had a good soundtrack.

  • @SkormFlinxingGlock ff9 >ff7

  • @SkormFlinxingGlock Well i would say FF X was the begin of the ending. After FF XIII and XIV I think it's game over.

Otherwise go back to the Roots Square! Give us some good Games.... 2D would be cool!

  • @Karldaj I completely agree with you. FF X-2 was good, but FF XII, although it had a good storyline and beautiful graphics, I didn't like the whole gambit and licence grid systems, it was like why even bother playing, if the computer will do it for me. And FF XIII was hardly a game at all, hell it was a freaking movie, the player hardly did much of anything. Come back square!

  • @MrMok5000 It's very ignorant to tell people what they should and shouldn't like. I prefer FFV, but I don't expect everyone else to share my opinion.

  • @MrMok5000 No sir.

  • G4 sucks now

  • why did they get rid of the victory music in the newer games... WHY!?

  • time to blow the dust off my ff7 and save the world again!! :D

  • @MrMok5000 so true!

i will give my richt ball for a new ff7 *pass a tear* :D

  • FFVII FTW

  • 1:35 ice cave more like matoyas cave noob XD and btw FF started dying after he left square(which was after 10)

  • 1:35 ice cave more like matoyas cave noob XD

  • There are two amazing things going on in this video!

    1) Nobuo Uematsu (Need I say more?)

    2) G4 is actually showing something that is interesting. As video game popularity went up the idiots running G4 decided to no longer care about video games.

  • I still LOVE FF7!!! especially the battle music and boss theme

  • Honestly, the music made the game seem REAL. Uematsu's music really captured the game moods f'real!

  • Nobuo Uematsu is my idol :d

  • They had CD's in 1988?

  • @squallz13 They even had casettes ;-)

  • Nobuo Uematsu seems Like A Kindhearted Musician

  • he dose do the music for final fantasy just now he is a free lance writer.

he is the best music writer of ower time.

  • Im sad he doesnt do the music for Final Fantasy anymore ; ; It was always one of the best parts of the games were the music because it just brings you into the action.

  • @UtenaOfRoses He keeps composing. The fact is he left XIII's composition to other people while he was focusing on XIV.

  • Final Fantasy 7, that made final fantasy the best game ever.

  • They said that the Playstation gave him access to limitless possibilities because of the CD format. That's wrong because Square used sequenced music for the PSX FF. (I guess it allowed more space for the rest).

So he went from the SNES's 8 ADPCM channels to the PSX's 24 ADPCM channels. That's 3 times more. It's a huge leap but far from limitless. You can hear this limit in FF9, in some fight when there is many sound effects played at once, there is some minor instruments that are cut off.

  • One winged angel and liberi fatali are two amazing works.

  • alot of early japanese games had great sound tracks like FF and Zelda!!!!!!

  • I hate to say it... but it's true.... Nobuo Uematsu > Koji Kondo

  • @DidymusWillow WRONG

  • @TheSuperEricWarshot Agreed. Uematsu may be my favorite composer, but to say he's "better" than Kondo is just rude.

  • @PrimalLight2323 saying who is better is just the weird choice of the games you had in your childhood. tbh uematsu is good, but if his music would stand against beethoven or mozard, or chopin (or your master) he would stand no chance. dont get me wrong, i love FF, i even got a lot of FF OST on my PC?( and i realyy love them) and listen to them on my mp3 player, but the musical perfection istn't comparable.

  • @kouron Very true, which is why Uematsu has been known to glorify such composers like Stravinsky, Holst, Paganini, etc. Even more contemporary composers like John Williams have a wider array of musical exploration at their disposal.

However, that's not to say that they're more "creative" than Uematsu. That's totally subjective. I honestly think Uematsu has repeatedly broken several grounds, and has done much more in his lifetime than the average 18th century composer.

  • yeah its ingenious !! i got also Tracks of FFVII on my Youtube Page =P

  • For me, FF7 is his best work.

  • Thank you SO much for uploading this.

  • I find Sony's Legend of Dragoon also having fantastic soundtracks, not sure if FF7 came first though. Probably tho

@darkfukt: would love to hear you say that in 2001.

  • Haha so funny. They thought they were going under but little did they know they would create one of the greatest game series ever. Nobuo Uematsu kind of set the bar for rpg music standards.

  • nobuo uematsu IS MY IDOL! MY LIFE IS FINAL FANTASY! WOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT FINAL FANTASY FOREVER

  • If I am not mistaken this was on the DVD for the Final Fantasy XII limited edition copy.

  • lol those games and that music changed my life...

  • I would really like to see a remake of FF7 same music and story line. just with updated graphics. now that would be something :))))

  • "unavoidable destiny" from FFTA is one of the best

  • They had CDs in 1988?

  • @Hworth8

    japan did

  • ooeematsoo

    Oh you, americans.

  • What a genius, talented composer. No reason why he shouldnt have one some big music award. Ive heard sooooo much of his work. Its amazing. Excelletn. Simply put, spectatacular. FF definately is remebered for its music, along with its innovative gameplay.

All tracks are great on all games.

  • My top 3 would be "FF7 bombing mission" - "FF8 the stage is set" - FF9 "Grand Cross"

  • Whenever I'm playing Dissisia, I always pick FF1:TOWN ^^HEART THAT song

  • I still love Aeris theme today after all of these years

  • All of the FF6 tracks is pentultimate Uematsu defined

  • as much as like the nes final fantasy games I always played them and thought "this game could have been so much better!"

  • I wonder what Nobuo Uematsu is doing right now.........

  • nobuo uematsu is agenius!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • My personal idol. He is the chief reason I want to write music for games.

  • Uematsu is such an idol! Sorry to spam but I'm a young composer who is hoping to write music for games in Japan so if you would like so see some new music from young composers feel free to visit my channel!

  • A lot of bands and artists eventually get played out and forgotten by their fans, but Nobuo's music doesn't have that effect on me.

  • theres not a single final fantasy song from 1 to 10 that i cant instantly reconize and remember and when i played ff12 i couldnt help but feel i really missed his music. it makes me almost possitive that alot of my enjoyment of the series came from his music. ive become a musician myself and he is deffinatly an influence

  • Wow this is really cool....thanx for uploading it. Luv FF and Uematsu.

  • i tried playing hendrix and stravinsky together and its amazing

  • this was back when G4 was actually about games and tech... now i hate the channel except for xplay

  • first we had mozart and beethoven

now we have nobuo uematsu and koji kondo (nintendo music)

  • Comment removed

  • Why does the audio in this vid sound so shit?

  • how did they get ff2 and 2 in english on the nes?

  • i mean ff 2 and 3

  • It's the fan translations.

  • that's what i thought but don't you think using roms is a little unoficial

  • Well, they got the best that they could settle for...

  • victory fanfare. does not exist in FF13. saddens me

  • nobuo uimatsu , at beginning

  • REALLY?

    IS IT?

    THANKS FOR TELLING US!

  • Ah, this was G4 back when it was still a good channel, and not the crap pile that it is now...

  • before they showed cops all the fucking time.

  • They've forgotten FF IV

  • who hasn't?

  • oh yeh and no he they didnt... watch it again after he does ff2 and ff legends 2 they say he does ff3 4 and 5. way to watch the whole thing noob

  • Ah, back when G4 was good.

  • I knew he did some of the Chrono Trigger, I just loved it too much.

  • I'm a little miffed about how they destroyed the pronunciation of his name...

But there's no doubt about how they're right when it comes to how amazing his accomplishments in game music are. (Heck, maybe music in general.)

  • my most favorite is "Aerith's Theme"

and of course "One Winged Angel"...

  • Terra's Theme is his greatest work, Hands Down. But those are some of my fav's as well.

  • The whole VI soundtrack is amazing.

But I love the IX stuff which is criminally undrerrated.

  • You are so right, it is never mentioned among his best work. What a crime.

  • Agree!

FFIX OST is best of the best!

  • @solidan21

IX's soundtrack was my favourite but Nobuo's work has been consistantly mindblowing throughout his career.

  • @solidan21 yeah a lot of poeple forget IX i think lots of poeple missed the part

  • @solidan21 i whole heartedly agree with that statment

  • @solidan21 Yeah, and actually he (Nobuo Uematsu) said that the music for FF IX was the one he most enyoed doing, and he put a lot of effort on those soundtracks.

Oh, and i love FF IX, its my favourite ff of all DEFINETELY.

  • @solidan21 VIII is further underrated. It had maybe one slightly dull track (Balamb Garden theme). Everything else on there was fantastic and "Man With The Machine Gun" plus the Ultimecia Castle theme were two of his best pieces ever.

  • @DaSurreal1da I'm not really a VI fan but I do love VI music however to me the best song is To Zanarkand.

  • so nobou uematso can play a rang of instruments?

  • I'd say 10 and 7 musics have the most emotion affection tho T0T.

  • That's very biased.

I think FFIV is better in music than ff7 and 10.

    macalenia forest is nice.

  • omg!!! it gives me goosebumps JUST to find out that Square almost never touched my hands!!

  • My hair, personality, life, would be so different without square... :o

  • your hair...?

  • yea sure! i got the idea from cloud + tidus

  • lol me too

  • ff6 has the best music in any game to date.

  • FFIV FTW in music.

ff6 is great too and ff9.

  • chuck norris is the nobuo uematsu of ass kicking

  • This man CHANGED MY LIFE forever

  • @slimsephy mine too!!! special musics))

  • I love this man (no homo).

  • How can they discuss FF6 and not discuss the Opera?! :(

    Otherwise a cool piece.

  • nobuo uematsu is the chuck norris of music

  • HELL YEA!

  • @oldscoolest You're the failure of life.

  • @foodmunkey your name is foodmonkey........go kill yourself

  • @oldscoolest nah hanz zimmer is way better.

  • you can actually see tha uemantsu-sama, gets into the music theme and substract the essence of the happening and use that as the raw materias for his compositions he is a GENIUS.

  • I actually got to see him on July 11th when I went to the distant worlds tour in Seattle...I didn't get to meet him, because that would have been around $100 or so, but it was amazing to see him make an appearance during the concert, everyone went absolutely nuts! Oh man, Uematsu, you're my idol! Seriously...FFX was my first FF, and it honestly has inspired me to become a game composer. In fact, FF music inspires me above all else. :D

  • Man he's like something sent down by God ;D

Lol the first Final Fantasy games look like the early pokemon games xD

  • VI was deffinatly Uematsu's best in my oppinion, Edgar & Sabin's theme is just so memorable!

  • I Love 6 and I agree best soundtrack from Uematsu

  • Chrono Trigger....

Damn man that game is so godly amazing.

  • If him and Yasunori did more together, I think my heart might explode...

  • the original score reminds me of pokemon

  • when he said ice cave that was actually matoya's cave.

  • Uematsu's final boss themes have always been amazing

  • I just saw him today and got his autograph! He's in Singapore now for Final Fantasy Distant World Concert. It was awesome.

  • I'd say Koji Kondo is a lot more memorable. While Nobuo is great composing some great orchestrated scores for Final Fantasy, I don't find his compositions to feature the same level of immortality brought by Kondo's. They are (imo) in a totally different level. Nobuo has a grandiose feeling with his long time orchestrated themes, but they usually fall short when real beauty is concerned. I'd say Kondo is a much apropriate and downright immortal videogame music composer. Probably the best ever.

  • As much of a fan of Kondo I am, I do believe Uematsu was the better composer.

  • Nobuo Uematsu is one of the greatest musical artist's in the world, very powerful

  • 9.2 mil copies LOL

  • whats so funny

  • some musical artist dont even sale that much cds o_O

  • Hey Everyone!

My name is Kevin. I'm a 16 year old composer. Nobuo Uematsu is a huge insparation to my music. I would love for everyone to visit my channel and view the work avalable. Thank you to everyone!

  • me again ._. lol

  • final fantasy 7 has one of the greatest music Nobuo Uematsu is great im so happy i found this...

  • I like "other world" I didn't think he could compose a metal song but he showed me

  • The simple music is refering to the original few FF's. He was limited to very simple tools... that's why the music sounds so plain YET he made that plain music work. Now he has wonderful compositions like "To Zanarkand" or "Sight of Spira" He is really a special composer and FF is an awsome series.

  • lol me again

    this video has 40,066

i'm probably 1/8 of that XD

  • thanks for posting :)

FF2 (FFIV) this was the best game of its time i think :)

  • Oh yes <33 It's still my fave Game. and that will never change.

  • i cant stop watching it

this is like the 10th time that i watch this video

  • Epic spoilers for those who havent played the series lol

  • final fantasy II had some awesome music, some of my favorite in the series

  • Nobuo Uematsu is a god

    <3

  • i think the music injustry needs to recognize nobuo uematsu for his work

  • I love watching this video about Nobuo and the history of Final Fantasy. It's brings back some wonderful memories and inspires me to play the older games again.

  • old games r better

    nowdays they care about money

  • I would say that FF X wasn't as good as the previous games, but I haven't played XII yet.

  • tedious.

  • Don't. XII is horrible.

  • yeah

but i cant wait for FFXIII and FXIII verusus that looks like is going to be one of the best games ever

  • lol ...

get this : Final fantasy will never be "Final fantasy" without Sakaguchi and GOD aka Nobuo Uematsu

  • and thats WHY im going to buy the new final fantasy XIII all 3 of them

cause Uematsu is going to do the music

  • says who? from what i have heard Uematsu is totally ditching FF13

  • says the contract and the preview soundtrack copyrights

    and wikipedia

    trust me i know

  • i just read what was written in wikipedia.

it says he's JUST doing the main theme.

    some guy named Masashi Hamauzu

    is doing everything else.

    See :)

  • I agree with ya, final XII is more than BORING.

  • XII is a good story and gameplay, the music is less then good though.

  • I always thought he got influenced by Stravinsky. You can hear it very clearly in Sephiroth theme. (One winged angel?)

Listen to Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring' and be amazed on how similar they sound in some passages.

  • He actually got the idea of One Winged Angel from Jimi Hendrix' Purple Haze.

  • Guess I should Watch the whole video before I comment. lol ^_^

  • uematsu u sir are a legend

  • uematsu really brings the game to life with his music and makes the music memorable which is why it is popular b/c it is catchy and easily recognizable and people can relate to it--especially to other people

  • Thank you for posting this!

and thank you Nobou...for making some of the greatest music ever

  • i met him

  • lol where

  • in Chicago

  • its when gameproducers make a game they really want to make good, and not thinking so much about the money, that good games is made. if something like that would happen now days, it would be a great game, i am sure.

  • im so excited! i just got tickets for his distant worlds concert in Michigan!! its in April but i didn't want to wait till the last minute. lol i love nobuo!! HE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS!!!

  • HOLY SHIT! MICHIGAN!?

Oh god, I'm so glad I came across your comment. Holy shit, where can I get those tickets?!
