I'm about to view this film, but I just want to say - in reference to some of the comments below - that had Lenin lived or at least Trotsky been elected chairman of the Soviets I believe we, in the west, would have a totally different view of socialism (don't mention communism since it never came to fruition anyways).
For one, the assumption that the original plan for the Soviet Union was to be a single party state was false the original plan was for there to be multiple leftist parties. IIRC the fucking MENSHEVIKS were intended to be part of the Soviet government in the original plan. Due to the Civil War most of those people joined the Bolshevik movement, or were killed by the Bolsheviks or lost power or something else..

The Soviet Story compares FLAGS to equate USSR to Nazis (hm, wait a minute. The Germans used an eagle, the USA crest also has an eagle. For one, the assumption that the original plan for the Soviet Union was to be a single party state was false the original plan was for there to be multiple leftist parties. IIRC the fucking MENSHEVIKS were intended to be part of the Soviet government in the original plan. Due to the Civil War most of those people joined the Bolshevik movement, or were killed by the Bolsheviks or lost power or something else..

The Soviet Story compares FLAGS to equate USSR to Nazis (hm, wait a minute. The Germans used an eagle, the USA crest also has an eagle. OMG USA is Hitler!) and special effects like blood splashing across the screen. While I'm sure it makes for a very dramatic effect it doesn't do much for the credibility of this movie which is anything but a documentary

Look at the official files of the Russian state archive, also published in the magazine "The American Historical Review"!
The proofed numbers say, that 1 Mio prisoners during the time of Stalin died while they had been detained. Only the half of the prisoners were political prisoners. Most died because of lack of medicine in USSR.

The Soviet Story was sponsored by political parties which make their living from defaming Communism, the blanket term for their opponents.
