In your opinion Masato 'should' fight Petroysan. Masato has retired. He doesn't think he 'should' fight anybody. He has proven himself more than enough.
I agree he is trying to settle something right but the 2007 final when he went against him it was right after he faught Buakaw and if you want to watch that fight, Buakaw tore up his legs so he had to stop. I guess I just find it an unfair advantage for Souwer so I'm waiting for December 31 when they are both fresh and ready to fight because Masato is better in my opinion.
the only reason why masato chose to fight souwer is because he wants to prove he is better which he is! he wants to prove that he was robbed in his past fights! which he was!
@Luisa22Sreypich *facepalm* How would he be robbed when he is all Japan's idol? :/ He just wants to defeat Souwer because he never did in the past. This is his last chance to settle something right.
I don't think Masato is unbeatable, but I definitely think that Thai style is still being overestimated. It's really not that hard to figure out, and Masato has proven in the past that he can adapt to it. His victories are especially impressive when you consider the fact that he's basically a walking target, since most of the guys he fights probably think like you, Cammytang.
whoa I'm a year late lol. I dont think Thai style is unbeatable? My gripe was with SOULFIGHT comment that Mastato was unbeatable under any rules. Style is irrelevant to what my comments. I think Masato n Buakaw are great fighters. But in MMA they can be taken down by a good wrestler who has sub par striking. In Thai, someone with sub par boxing can latch on and clinch. That was my point: rules matter. The people who think I'm attacking Masato need to actually READ what I'm writing.
Well I think the rule changes are what effected Buakaw's game the most. No clinching? I understand the reason is to make the fights more exciting. But Buakaw was amazing in the clinch. That was his defense against aggressive punchers like Masato. Also the whole changing of the one day tournament is something I don't like. That was something Masato also didn't excel in. He took a lot of damage in his fights cause of his aggressiveness. Too bad he's retiring.
Buakaw livs in the gym (which is a big whole in the ground), there are million of african kids who'd kill to live like Kyshenko does, does that mean THEY should make it to the final of a kickfighter tournement on the scale of MAX?
good point but kyshenko supports a family. and if the africans decide that they'd like to try kickboxing then they can haha. sort of irrelevant because i'm just saying he's the one that deserves most that is currently in K-1 MAX.
I get what you're sayin', but what I'm saying is that a tournement is a compitision, not about who's the poorest or whos what, ain't a personalty compitison, he lost to AS in the final 8, putt up a good fight, but didn't have the stamina to beat AS, noone deservs a free pass in a compitison, the tournement is about giving everyone a shot at making it, that's the whole fairness about it, so in no way does someone who lost, deserv a pass IMO
Yupp, he's gonna fight Kraus in the Final 4 undercard, that's gonna be a good win for the kid, Kraus is made to order for Kyshenko =), just sayin' Ky by KO ;)
NO, i think there are probably 100 fighers from lumpinee or ratjadamnoern stadium and champions that would kick masatos ass badly. even without elbows. BUt masato is a great fighter tho
Masato was completely dominated by Buakaw back in '04, when clinching was still allowed. And Buakaw was never even a Lumpinee or Raja champ. When the Thais get to fight in their own rules, Masato is pretty much out of his element.
Masato's not even a god under K-1 rules. He's definitely one of the top guys...but not a god. I don't ever recall him steam rolling through any of the top guys. Even in that fight with Buakaw 2007, he took more damage than he actually gave. I'm no hater, but to say Masato couldn't be beat under any rules is pretty stupid. This is real fighting, not Dragon Ball Z fantasyland.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That was 2007, not 2009, and he didn't take damage from only Buakaw. He also took damage from Kysenko and Souwer. Masato himself said that Souwer has the hardest low kicks.
Masato's an absolute beast. In his current state, he'd outclass everybody in the tournament. Don't tell me about real fighting. You don't know Masato personally, you've never seen him train, and you;'ve never spoken to him. So don't hate.
There's no hate for Masato. I just not kissing his ass. He's a good fighter, but he's NOT unbeatable under any rules. I'm guessing the fact that you've spoken to him and seen him train means that he's clearly the super saiyan you think he is. Regardless of from who, he took enough damage. Doesn't mean he sucks, it just means he isn't the god of K-1
And yes, you are mixing up real fighting with animefantasyland fighting. I wonder if Masato thinks he's unbeatable under any rules. I really do.
A top MMA fighter can't even TOUCH Masato. You think he'll take him down? When they got too close, it was Masato in control pushing Kawajiri off and bullying him around.
I seen Masato toss around Cruiserweights in sparring like they were kids. When he's not cutting weight, he's HUGE - maybe 180lbs+. He can easily pull a Kaoklai and even beat the top heavyweight guys.
Masato fought full Muay Thai for years in his AJKF days. He can throw elbows and knees - but he fights in K-1 now.
I do think he could take him down. It's a different game. I'm not discrediting Masato, but even Thai style clinch is VERY different from wrestling. You can't compare fighters that way. Even the level of fights he had with Thai rules weren't the highest
Since youre his buddy though, interview him and have him tell us what he thinks about winning under all rules against anybody in his weight.
I better stop commenting. I realize we will just disagree. no hate. but I'd love to see that interview.
@shunsuk1fans Hey there Shunsuke, Thanks for the great HL as usual, however, I'm gonna have to disagree with your statement, Masato usually struggles with bigger and stronger Thai fighters. Petrosyan would be too much for him I think, Masato's defence has always been sketchy, he drops his guard too often, that will be fatal to him should he be caught by the quick hook and straight.
@lebanner3 u are saying he drops his guard too often, this is combat not taking pictures for a kickboxing magazine. Gettin caught by the hook and straight is another point u made. A person can say this or other things about tape on any fighter. its all good in one demension and on paper. But not everyone can be a coach and see these things cuz there is alot of other factors after the gap that a untrained eye does not see. Like when a guard is dropped is there a riposte after?A cadence change etc
@jaikaransingh Now I see, well I agree with you, on paper its one thing and in the ring, it's quite different, however, people seldom change, and Masato's history is on tape (and there's a reason why people consult these in preparation, to capitalize on mistakes). Dropping your left while trowing the straight right is a Boxing 101 NO NO (from what I've been taught), but Masato works hard to compensate with speed. He's a great fighter, should he fight Petrosyan, he might win, I just dont agree.
@lebanner3 Speed definity lets u bend "rules"! I dont understand u think he might win or lose against Petro? What do u think about the lastest Hari news?
I don't think that's why we love Masato. He is not the best puncher or the best kicker or even the best at defense. What makes Masato so special is his ability to get past the fighters who are actually better; he's a great tactician with a well rounded array of tactics. I think the only fighter to have a winning record against him is Andy Souwer in K-1. At that level of competition, that's absolutely insane... he never quits. Many of the best fighters can't do claim such a feat.
@FinalFan0 lol I just saw these replies to my comments. All I said was Masato wasn't unbeatable under every rule set. Great fighter, no hate for him. You are absolutely right about him being VERY smart. But my comments were mainly replying to SOULFIGHT, who claimed he "trained with Masato" and knows for a fact he's unbeatable. MMA, Thai and K-1 share similarities, but each are still different enough from each other....success in one doesn't necessarily translate to the other...
I don't get why people still bring up Buakaw-Masato 2004 when I bring up how dominant Masato is NOW. This is 2009. Buakaw got beat by Masato in 2007. He got KTFO by Sato in 2008 and lost to Kraus, the other time BARELY beating him (Who Masato KOed in 2003 and BEAT BADLY in 2004).
The Buakaw in 2004 was better than the Masato in 2004. But the the Buakaw NOW is no match fot he Masato NOW.
Well the game has changed since then, but Masato never relied much on the clinch anyways, so his style was pretty much uneffected by the changes. Masato looked far from dominant in the last tournament, a lot of people can even argue how Sato and Kyshenko won those matches.
Argue all you want. Numbers don't lie. Go back and count every punch and kick. You know even the judges had Round 1 of Masato-Sato as 10-10. You can't say the judges were biased after that. Sato's head was being blown back every 5 seconds
I'm not here to argue that. The point is, you can't really hype Masato as being in a level above any other top MAX fighter based on his recent bouts; a match against an MMA fighter (where he was expected to win), an exhibition against a 17 year old? If anything, the previous tournament has shown how much more vulnerable he is now compared to the past. It won't matter much anymore though, since after this year he'll be out of the mix. Unless he were to make a comeback...
i'm not sure if it's him but if you look closely at the crowd at 3:34 gago drago (wearing red shirt) is going nuts as masato is giving kawajiri the business!! that's so funny!
SHUN, U dont have to explain yourself or anything, if these guys cant figure this one out or if they dont know that Kawajiri wanted this(mad props to him) they could take there insight elsewhere.
Again, u did a MASTERFUL job here.U DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also hope you don't see this as some " anti mma " thing, i posess every single Pride FC, UFC , HERO's , and Dream event. I love mma i don't miss one show. But i love K-1 more.
Edit: the font I was referring to is the Olde English found in your other videos, but it doesn't appear in this specific one. I was just wondering where you can find that specific version of Olde English. Thanks
"in the ring i'm the boss" said Kraus in the conference before facing Petrosyan...in the post-fight conference he says "i feel really bad"....it's time for him to understand that he will never be the k1 max king again.
this is imo combat sport at its highest level and the sooner it is on european tv esp britsh tv the better- these guys deserve the limelight of the whole world!!!
Hello Shunsuke!! I'm the current brazil muaythai champion and I have to tell you, your vid's inspire me a lot. I'm always watching ... And that is about any of these days I'm appearing in their videos of winning HIROYA

SOULFIGHT 2 years ago
Well the game has changed since then, but Masato never relied much on the clinch anyways, so his style was pretty much uneffected by the changes. Masato looked far from dominant in the last tournament, a lot of people can even argue how Sato and Kyshenko won those matches.
phil367153206 2 years ago
Argue all you want. Numbers don't lie. Go back and count every punch and kick. You know even the judges had Round 1 of Masato-Sato as 10-10. You can't say the judges were biased after that. Sato's head was being blown back every 5 seconds
SOULFIGHT 2 years ago
I'm not here to argue that. The point is, you can't really hype Masato as being in a level above any other top MAX fighter based on his recent bouts; a match against an MMA fighter (where he was expected to win), an exhibition against a 17 year old? If anything, the previous tournament has shown how much more vulnerable he is now compared to the past. It won't matter much anymore though, since after this year he'll be out of the mix. Unless he were to make a comeback...

i'm not sure if it's him but if you look closely at the crowd at 3:34 gago drago (wearing red shirt) is going nuts as masato is giving kawajiri the business!! that's so funny!

put masato against kawajiri on mma rules and u see a new result, put him on adcc rules and u see another new result
OliverFD 2 years ago
Difference is, Kawajiri openly challenged Masato in a K-1 rules match. He wanted to strike with Masato. Not the other way around.
And i meant " mma striking vs max striking " of course.
Everybody knows Masato would get wrecked in a grappling match. But he's not dumb enough to go and challenge an mma guy in these rules.
shunsuk1fans 2 years ago
I also hope you don't see this as some " anti mma " thing, i posess every single Pride FC, UFC , HERO's , and Dream event. I love mma i don't miss one show. But i love K-1 more.

Yeah that's the font. Anywhere specific program or site you can find it for download?
tybriffa 2 years ago
Edit: the font I was referring to is the Olde English found in your other videos, but it doesn't appear in this specific one. I was just wondering where you can find that specific version of Olde English. Thanks

"in the ring i'm the boss" said Kraus in the conference before facing Petrosyan...in the post-fight conference he says "i feel really bad"....it's time for him to understand that he will never be the k1 max king again.
