That's the beauty of rick rubin, He realised the band is the ones with the talent so he leaves them to it and polishes it up afterwards with his talent.

Bob rock held their hands to much and added too much of his own influence during the writing process more and more until eventually Metallica's recorded albums sounded nothing like metallica. E.g. St. Anger and no guitar solo's??? Since when is it a good idea to get rid of solo's in a band that is renowned for it's solo's...

Bob Rock took the soul out of their music while the only think Rick Rubin does does is make shit really loud and take out all of the dynamics of the sound like he's making a Slayer album. They're both terrible. Metallica should stop hiring outside help.

I think Bob Rock's time is over. He's good at what he does, but he doesn't fit 'tallica anymore. Whoever that dude in the control room is, he deserves a shit ton of credit, he should definitely be back for the next album. Rick Rubin in no way deserves credit for this album. And based off this evidence, he probably doesn't deserve credit for his "work" with Slayer, Johnny Cash, Chili Peppers, etc, either.
