  • When I was little, I had a friend whose family had a GSP named Inca and whenever it was time for her to go home, her mom would send the dog out to get her, and he would find us wherever we were playing. Sometimes her mom would just put a note under the dog's collar with updates about dinner and such. Inca was so cool.

  • Someone I knew used to have one of these. I would walk it often when I went to visit my horses. Nice dog, but it always had birds on the brain. I really wouldn't get one of these unless you intend to hunt with it because it might drive you nuts otherwise. Unless it is really trained, it will go after small animals that you don't want it to like cats and chickens. Luckily the one I used to know is now with an owner that will use it for hunting.

  • I had one from 4-16. They are amazing dogs, and great with children. They don't knock them over. My dog would let children pull her ears or pour soda on her and just tolerate it. Somehow, she knew they were children and to be tolerated or ignored. She even slept under my sister's crib when she was an infant and would growl at anyone approaching who wasn't family. They also recognize other animals like cats as pets and leave them alone. These dogs are so sweet and loyal, it's incredible.

  • I had one from when I was 6 to 17. She was the most incredible dog!!

We had to put her down yesterday

  • These dogs are very good with young children they will not knock them over as the lady says. If you have a dog that is boisterous in the house then you need to exercise it more. A one mile walk a day is no good with this breed. they need to run and the further the better. Think before you get a dog, what do you want it for and get a dog to suit. The German pointer is a hunting dog. If you deny any breed of dog from doing what comes naturally to them, then any bad behavior is your own fault.

  • I have 3 of them and have raised them for the past 34 years, but I have never bred them and most of the ones I have had have been rescues. I disagree about having them around small children. I have had them since before my children were born and now with grandchildren and they are factastic with them all.

  • I HAVEE ONE IN INDIA :D

  • My Cousin Has One!, HE'S THE BEST!!!, ive played with him for hours, he's never snapped, or barked at me!, he is one of the BEST Dogs Ive ever SEEN!

  • my friend has 1 of them his name is Drax they called him tht cause when he was a puppy his ears were so long and when he ran he looked like draculer lol

  • adopted one from shelter. thought it was a lab at first. As he grows his personality is very different from a lab. Great dog though. Very entertaining. He is mouthy as most puppys are and doesnt have the soft mouth as a lab. Need to watch that around kids.

  • Hands down: Best breed on the planet.

  • i want one of these dogs so bad!! i can't wait till i get my own place! ---P.S.----do these dogs like to snuggle?

  • @thedropdeadgucci yes , no matter if they r made to hunt, these dogs r amazing a have one , and Joey is doing just perfect when it comes to snuggle. :D

  • @jelenazaric96 thanks! :]]

  • Just adopted one outta the shelter a few days ago. He's an idiot, but he's a loveable idiot. Hopefully that'll change once we get some calories to his brain.

  • not good with kids? are you kidding me? i grew up with one from the time i was 2. couldn't have asked for a better best friend. I loved my Heidi girl =]

  • @Fodigity726 yeah me to :)

  • @Fodigity726 She didn't mean in a temperament way like they will bite your kids she is saying they are so hyper they don't focus on what is around them and they can knock your child down if they are hyper and want to play. I have a Border Collie/Pointer mix and I understand what she is saying my dog has knocked me on my ass a few times and I am 20

  • @DuudeRJ You are right but there is also something else you need to take into account. You see them pointing, slowly, steadily, focusing? Well that same patience is what they use when they are around children and thought to have manners around them. It is really a question of how you raise and socialise your dog. Most hunting dogs can be really caring and patient.

And they are only hyper if they don't get enough exercise. I do not recommend them to people not willing to play a few hours a day.

  • I got this dog, its cute :0

    Hi from Netherlands

  • My friend has one of these, and boy, shes a handful!!!!

  • My family has had several, they can be a handful, but once they're trained are some of the best dogs around.

  • My thoughts exactley my parents had two GSP's when I was born Im now 24 and my Dad is on his 6th pointer :) They LOVE kids

  • what, not the kind of dog if you have children, Its obvious does not have a german shorthair

    but it passed away :(

  • Fantastic dogs! Highly underestimated unfortunately..

  • @hypergenius i never heard anybody underestimate them, to be honest !!

  • My fathers friends dog, Jimmy he died two months ago and he was gonna turn 20!

  • @xoxTaniwolfxox I know how it feels because I lost one of my dogs to. Her name was Jelly and she was so nice and loving!

  • I had an english pointer that looked just like a german shorthaired pointer. They whole pointer family make wonderful pets :]

  • PALM GLADES SHORTHAIRS

BREEDING THE VERSATILE GSP SINCE 1972

  • I have a German Shorthair named Chase. Hes fun and funny. He does what the other dogs do in the vid.

  • I have a 12 yr old GSHP with 2 kids (4 and 2) and he's terrific. He actually does like they said in the video will get excited and accidently knock one of them over but he's soooooo good with them. He'll actually knock one over and sniff them over like he's making sure they're ok. They definately need more than just a walk around the block if you live in the city (especially with young kids) Find a dog park or trail where the dog can run the energy out or go for a nice long jog with them.

  • I just recently got a pure bred german short haired pointer; It's a huge relief knowing my vet bill isn't going to be through the roof! :D

  • Naw, I have one and I also have a pointer...One day I want to breed a new type using this breed and a whole lot of others :D

  • I have a wirehair that looks like a shorthair. she has no beard!!!!

  • simply the best. Could never have another breed of dog. Hardly could imagine having any other dog than my Rufus!

  • i love mine, and my best friend kiwoy7s shorthaired pointer! shes a sweetheart, with a wild side!

  • dogs 101 is so good but the audio on this is pretty bad
