Yes.I know what happened being I work for con edison.There was an electric burn out, and the fire burnt a a hole in the gas service, a manhole cover was pulled ( which is proceduere,called venting ),the right amount of oxygen and air mixed with gas, and a phone or hot water or something kicked on created a spark,or the boiler kicked on and the house blew.thats what i know. My parents were about 5 houses away.Right off of 259st and 80ave..
there was a gas leak and ur not supposed to turn on any switches when there is one so when the mom got home (kids wanted to stay at school) she must have turned on a switch or something and the house exploded. she died and left behind small kids and her husband. really terrible...
I live on the next block where it happened. At first I thought a plane had exploded in mid air, but when I came outside, you could see debris flying everywhere. The smoke was intense! The blast was so powerful, it shook the whole house!!
