People are becoming more educated these days and know how to help the world and understand it, so don't need fear or superstition to be controlled.

I've never given the 2012 theory much thought - I'd usually just dismiss it. But this sounds spot on. I have to agree with you, while I won't buy into it, millions of other already have for me. This is yet another example of history repeating itself.
@TheUltraluke Well the Mesoamerican long calendar is commonly called the “Mayan calendar” even though it wasn’t invented by the Mayans. The Mayan version of the calendar is called the “Haab”. The calendar has nothing to do with an a “apocalypse” it’s just what it was made out to be.

@SharpShooter1086 The prediction isn't for when 2012 hits, it's for the 21st of december 2012, so even if it we don't all die then (which we won't) there's no phenomenon stating that we'll all die as soon as it's 2012
