@hellomonkey2 Does Vai EVER use a volume pedal? That's the natural swell of the sustainer. I've got one. It's great. Fuck the "Moog" guitar! On the full version of this live, it sounds like he's also using the auto-swell of the DL4 (the green Line 6 delays that everyone owns), b/c he has a lot more swelling than here.

you have to take the back plate off and screw in the springs a little bit, because its a floating bridge and it has to have equal tension from the strings and from the springs for it to sit level...real annoying trying to set one up

every guitar can be tuned to any tuning you want. you need to tighten- or loosen up those 3 springs on the back of the guitar but I wouldn't recommend it doing that on your own if you've never done it. have somebody show it to you, it's not that hard really...

Yep watch Velvet Revolver play fall to pieces on the myspace stream they did. Slash's string gets stuck under his humbucker and you can really tell when it happens. Steve and a few other players I know of tape it up so that doesn't happen.

It's just tape. :-) sometimes he would divebomb so low that the high E would get stuck under that pickup, so he keeps tape over that part.

No, it's the neck pickup with the thing that lookes like a fret. I think it's called the fernando sustainiac or something like that. I don't think it's on any of the stock jem-guitars but if you look it up, you should probably be able to modify your guitar yourself

Not quite, its the pickup that does the work. However, Jem don't come with sustainer pickups. They come in small kits of the internet from around £120 which you'd have to fix your self or maybe bring it to your local guitar store and they might do it for you.

Okay all these people are kinda wrong. The green thing on the neck pick up is tape, because sometimes when he plays he hits the e string so hard it gets stuck under the pickup. The sustainer is in the pickup, and no jems come with it. You have to buy it, and you can install it yourself.

The pickup has like a little lip around the edge, and it gets caught under it. so the tape blocks the whole side of the pickup, therefore keeping the string from going under it.
