Thanks for the great vid, it's wonderful to hear it nice and slow.... don't worry about the tabs, they are all over the internet. It's just nice to hear the melody to get a cense of timing.
it looks like you have a built-in capo on the 6th fret, high 5th string, did that come pre installed or did you do that yourself? and does it slide up to the 7th fret? I know some of Earl's songs required a capo on the 2nd fret plus a capo on the high 5th string 7th fret and am worried about installing a hook on the fretboard. Thanks for any info you can provide =)
@bsw33ms That was a Shubb sliding capo so it would slide all the way up to the 10th fret or so. I installed it myself and then had it removed years later. I use spikes now on my new banjo and would never consider using a sliding capo again. I like spikes much better. I highly recommend having them professionally installed unless you know what you're doing.
Nice. This arrangement sounds like the earlier Flatt&Scruggs recordings, which is different from the version included in Earl's book and which can be heard in his later records.
I learned to play it and never have the same roll twice...lol. For some reason I learned the reverse roll first and can play it much faster than the forward roll, which is backasswards to everyone else but everything I play sounds ok....lol. As ludwigtrap says, Earl never plays it the same way every time either....

During the G measures, is it bad to somewhat flail the open notes inbetween slides? Because I don't like to memorize open notes.

what kind of banjo are you playing? it's got a nice clear ring to it.

hey, great vids. they have really helped me make progress on this. Do you have tablature for this, cos I'm sure Im missing some notes. Cheers, Mike

Sorry I don't have any tab for it. Don't sweat every note, even Earl never plays it the same way twice.
