Polish Wedding (1998)

I just finished watching this movie. Originally, I only did because Lena Olin was in it, and she is; unimpeachably, one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. However, as I watched, I became intrigued, and found myself full of questions... not the least of which is whether or not the matriarchal archetype of the Polish woman is an accurate depiction. In the case of Lena Olin's character, it is NOT a particularly flattering portrait. Fascinating move, though. Surprisingly so.

@katasza29 lepiej z rosyjskim niż z irlandzkim ;P zresztą akcent to mały pikuś przy innych przeinaczeniach z tego filmu, no, ale cóż, można go potraktować, jako amerykańską - specyficzną - wizję polskiej kultury

@creativsis to be more accurate, they are meant to be Polish and the film aims at showing Polish culture but it fails to do so. most of the customs they show are outdated and no one follows them anymore :/ so I wouldn't advise you to draw any conclusions about Polish culture based on this movie. still if you want to watch it for entertainment go ahead :)

@creativsis well, if you manage to distance yourself from all the mistakes and exaggerations they make trying to portray Polish culture and you like the cast (Byrne, Olin, Danes are great actors IMHO) it might be worth watching, but to tell you the truth it's not a great comedy nor drama. I picked it up cuz I'm quite interested in how people view Polish culture and how it develops among Polish immigrants in other countries
