That's not how Afghan war started. The PDPA came to power by popular uprising, and mujahedin were already organized and armed with CIA help by early 1979 to attack the PDPA, not the Russians. Soviet forces were asked by PDPA to help fight mujahedin. Then they took part in coup. But there was no "invasion." And the mujahedin did not form spontaneously without western help.

Today's Libyan rebels probably had western support from start.
