  • I've been using computers for a while, and I've gotten pretty damn good with them, although I can't program anything other than a TI-84. Also, I'm completely useless with OS X. Well, I guess I'm okay at it, I can perform basic tasks, but if someone asks for help with a mac, I won't have a clue what's going on.

  • im a kid and i know more than enyone im my class about a pc

  • @bmulpeter me to iam the only one who know,s what a hard drive is in my class (its sad) and my computer teacher things the case is the cpu. if its a tower case she call,s it the tower case but if it,s the type that has the monitor on it she call,s it the cpu. how dumb

  • @zipzip143 What browser do you use?

  • @Dorminay42 As of 2011 I use Chrome and some times Internet Explorer I used Firefox before Chrome came out in about 2008 or so.Why do you ask?

  • @bmulpeter yet you can't type

  • I love knowing more than my parents, my dad is a minor computer programmer. He should know more since he works with computers 8+ hours a day, but i still seem to know more. im 16 years old.

  • @spyderpilotuser Same here my dad has been working with computers for over 10 years and I know more stuff and teach them to him and I'm only 12

  • @WWERocksfool lol, I'm actually almost 18 now, looking back at my comment, I realize I should have said he's a fair computer programmer, not a minor one. He does a fair amount, but he's not a super programmer. I know alot more than both my parents now.

  • I was born in 93 and I have been using the internet since birth

  • @tylerperson090

i remember my First computer! xD

    64Mbs or ram >=)

compaired to my 16GB today xD

  • Depends how old you kids are.

  • I'M a noob? Right... have you ever been hired to program something? Didn't think so. I built this beast computer I'm on. I programmed a URL shortener (easy as crap) a simple image hosting site (also VERY easy), my own forum, etc.

  • im 13 and i still dont believe that kids can combine with computers trust me ive known computers and in im in middle school and all the kids don't know shit the don't even know how to make a folder that hasn't been made for them. my sister is 16 and doesnt even know how to use one. i think most kids only know the usage of the internet which a 4 year old could do. if they cant even know what ram and rom stands for and is then oh well. who cares more marketing for me to know how to use em.

  • I'm 16 and I totally agree with you! Since the computers got hooked up to hi-res monitors via VGA, DVI and even HDMI, and with a GUI based Operating system such as Linux, Windows or Mac. Still using a web browser to browse the web is still good, but non-computer minded adults shouldn't become dependant on children for computer advice, most children can't tell the difference between a Mac and a PC or an LCD monitor from a CRT monitor! :)

  • my sister is 16 years old and doesnt even know how to set one up but she knows how to use the internet explorer. once at my tehnology class where making folders on desktop and one kid said whats desktop? then we where using dreamweaver and everyone was complaining it was too hard. i told em to shut up cause there lucky dream weaver has codes for them cause if it didnt they would figure out all the coding until there 50. all kids know how to do is web gaming and texting with a pc nothing advanced

  • You got that spot on mate! I've even seen teens trying to hook up a mouse via a monitor. Seemed a tad obvious that the mouse went into the tower via USB, amazes me how teens get photos (Jpegs) off there mobile phones, onto there bebo. Most teens don't even know what the benefits of a 3G mobile are, it's stuff they don't even know such as faster GPRS which makes streaming 3 GP video and audio content over a GSM possible, because that is what video calls are. Lucky your tech class didn't use HTML!

  • if bebo myspace and youtube and other sites didnt have the coding done for them it would take them for ever to make there profile cause i know youtube already coding for like color and stuff. they think there so smart uploading a file well heres the thing the work is all ready done for them which they dont realize.

  • True! Yeah, some may even find the task of making a background for bebo hard! It's not hard if you take a note of the resolutions .e.g. 800*600, then put that into the "canvas size" thing in Macromedia Fireworks! Most kids don't even know that you can't edit PDFs! :)

  • My sister knows how to hook up her phone and her ipod to a computer which uses a usb port but she doesn't know how to hook up a mouse which also has a usb port.(my mouses all have usbs). At school I can barely focus on my work cause boys and girls(mosty girls ;) are constantly coming up to me asking me to help them write a list of the computer parts or help them find the volume setting. In fact some people tried to cheat off me in a test.Kids only use phones to text message as a way to be "cool"

  • Yeah, I've done some simple jobs myself around my school, such as networking a laptop via a cat 5 ethernet cable, because there was no WiFi coverage in the area of that school! Also there was another kid who was helping the teacher hook a DVD player up to a TV by sCART! They were both puzzled but I settled it! Very easy, though it had nothing to do about computers! I also set up a Promethean Activslate!

  • I dont think compters should be in the education system well maybe for College. Cause I see really do with them. EVERYTIME in english class when ever the teacher is off guard the kids try to those internet filter sites that let you go on youtube and stuff also one kid with a GearUp laptop got caughting using her laptop going on aim in class they gave her one more chance and if they catch her not using it inappropraitly in school they where gonna take it away. I am afraid of starting a trend.

  • The trend I am scared of starting is The Tablet pc trend in my school. Kids at my school are always breathing down the necks of kids using ipod touch and stuff. Everyday at lunch I see them gathering around kid watching them look at stupid pictures on google. I could imagine they over crowding on me if I bring a touch screen laptop to school. Kids would always be freaking asking me to use it, I would have to wash it everyday cause of fingerprints. Any way what do you have Windows, Linux, Mac?

  • I've got 3 pocket PCs but one of them broke! I've got a Dell Axim, Sony Ericsson P900i and a Palm Tungsten (the one that's broken). Other kids find it hard to believe the stuff I own! I own a laptop, several towers, LCD screen with VGA and DVI input, projector and an amplifier in my room! I use Windows, on my PCs, at the moment it's Vista, but I sometimes use Windows 95, ME, XP and 7 beta! What do you use? :)

  • Well at the moment I have desktops but in november or december my mom is going to buy me a HP TouchSmart TX2-1020us, I'm struggling between what should I get the touchsmart or just wait for windows 7(which kids might turn into a trend). I have windows HP w2207h Vista Home premium 64-bit, I have a windows XP media edition(forgot model) and 2 windows 98s which i comletely forgot there models. I'm not a mac person.

  • Me neither, I've never used Mac or an Apple product. The only Apple product that appealed to me was that new iPhone 3G s. Well, I've got a Fujistsu Siemens V5535 laptop with 2 GB memory, 60 GB (I think) Hard drive, which I partitioned, incase I want to upgrade Windows, so I know my things are OK. I haven't owned tablet PC, but I know you can plug them into the USB port on a PC and use the Tablet PC Input Panel on Windows Vista to draw things.

  • I've noticed that there trying to make cell phones into computers/gaming consoles which is kinda of stupid I mean its ok for some games like solitare or something but like need for speed? call of duty? leave it alone on the gaming systems. Also windows mobile seems kinda stupid cell phone batteries dont last that long and the screen is too small to write with and your gonna think you wrote like a page when its actually 4 sentences. Only reason most people buy a phone is for texting and internet.

  • Yeah, innaproapiate e-mails are often sent about my school and kids have been caught! Some websites such as Learn4Good don't get blocked because they are educational but kids use it instead of doing real work such as redrafting english pieces!

  • What computers does your school have Mac, windows , linux? A bad thing with Mac is that the ichat (AKA AIM) one kid was going on AIM using ichat but he got caught cause the mac froze. If you dont what GearUp is its a educational institute that helps you get college credits and give free laptops to the needy. The teachers obviously knew the kids only wanted to join for the laptops cause one kid asked if the laptops have internet filters. When kids got them the next day what do I see AIM on screen.

  • Well, my school has Windows XP, and that's about that. Yeah, computers are a very sneaky way to have fun when the teacher isn't looking, and ill use of a computer is often overlooked, but the principle is, that these so-called electronic educational tools can be done without in subjects other than I.T. and computers should be disconnected from the Wider Internet unless there's a need, yet again the computers are connected to a LAN, which is part of the local authority' s WAN!

  • My school also has windows xp in its libary something awkward happen one of the batteries died so the libarian went to plug in a charger but when it came on it was rick rolled on the screen singing.

  • Yeah, laptops are good in a school library, I actually worked in a library out of school for a short spell and they used Windows XP and WiFi. They used a program called Millenium to check in/ out the books and on one of the days, the main router at the local authority was down, so the computers were pretty much obselete when it came to communicating with the other libraries via I.T which was essential as I.T was the cornerstone to the success of the library, as old systems no longer exsisted!

  • Yah I remember I was a assitance in the libary I helped organize books and laptops in the cart. It use to be my hang out until kids from the lunch room come and the only reason they came in was to use the laptops for non-educational reasons which they lied that they where using for educational reasons. I can barely read my books cause there plugging in there ipods and mp3s to the computer and playing some music out loud. Until when the Router stopped working thats when they never come in.

  • Yeah, computers are fine if kids can use them properly but nevertheless computers will always be used wrongly just like everything else in the education system e.g. doodling on jotters. The only difference is that you can't stop a kid from using a computer wrongly, what they can't do in school will be done at home!

  • yah most kids only like a computer for Network socializing and listening to music. Its what I mostly see kids at school with laptops not the socializing but the music. my sister didn't used my new vista until I got internet on it. Kids just don't use them for productive things well most of them.

  • Yeah, another thing is that adults shold not rely on kids for technical advice. Most kids know what memory is but they think it's memory to store music when memory in computer specs is RAM. For example, some kids are like well my iPod has 16 GB of memory so that laptop with 2 GB memory doesn't have a lot of memory for music. 2 GB of memory (RAM) is a lot for a laptop though...

  • I'm pretty sure they don't know how many bytes in are in a gigabyte. My class didn't find out that out until my technology teach told them on the first day. My sister didn't knew that either so when ever I saved something that was like 27KBs she thought it was alot. My sister wouldn't let me save my homework or projects. When a pop-up on my computer said it was low on virtual memory and it was going to make more she overreacted and started deleting my stuff even though she had like Billion songs

  • (continue) she had like a billions songs that she downloaded and they where probaly illegally she doesn't even listen to them anymore she listens to it once then she stops. Kids are the last people you want adivce for pcs unless it network socializing or downloading music. I'm pretty sure kids at my school don't even know about touch screen computers the've been out a long time ago and when windows 7 comes out there going to make a big deal about it.

  • Your just jealous that us kids are better at tech.

I can program, and I'm a kid. I know a computer inside and out. I already have used Win7 a ton. It's beast.

    Somebody hates kids...

  • Uh I'm a kid too most kids usually don't know how to really how to use a computer for any other use than network socializing, music, and gaming. I said most kids use a pc like that not all.

  • You're right about that, kids who do Computing may know breifly about memory management though! Yeah, 27 Kilobytes is not a lot! lol, been there myself, everyone assumes that low virtual emory means it's time to delete stuff!

  • I'm a kid, and I know a computer inside and out.

  • Its probaly just where I live I checked out your videos your pretty smart. But at my middle school I feel like only me and the technology teacher know what where talking about. I get kids every time in that class asking me for answers questions like "How many OS are out there." "How do you change the volume." I'm scared of leaving my XP desktop at home with my sisters cause all they know how to do is use the internet. They almost installed spyware and almost delete file (C:).

  • Nice one! I'm not really a kid anymore, but when I was, I did too! But most kids don't know a computer inside out even though they act to, just to use computers for stuff teachers don't know about! :) That's why kids shoudn't combine with computers unless they learn to use them approatley at all times! :)

  • I'm fifteen. I don't really do a whole lot of social networking. My Myspace is incredibly sparse. I focus more on game design and video editing. I avoid CSS with my MySpace, mainly because, I tried it once, and it ended up pretty awful. I'm planning on learning C++ in the near future, as soon as I can find a good IDE and compiler. I'm not the stereotypical teen computer user, who just uses social networking and games. In fact, I really don't enjoy internet gaming.

  • I started accessing the internet when I was 15. I'm 19 now and I'm a programmer. Hah.

  • Kids and computer combine... to form a giant robot?

    No. They can't do that.

  • I would walk around and hold your hand chris... Lol jk

  • lol im 12 !

  • yup.

  • i had my first computer when i was 5

im 15 now and ive built my own computer

and fixed both my mom and dads laptops

  • Been using computers since i was 5. 16 now.

  • Something more than combining.

  • lol...im 13 and I've fillled up:

3 150GB (or so) hard drives

    5 80GB hard drives

3 Computers in the past 3 years

And 8 USB drives in the last year.

  • i been using computers since i was really young like 8. im 20 now

  • im 14 and a half and i know more then my mom dad and older sister my dad thinks yahoo and firefox are similar like the same thing lol

  • i made a web server at 12 for my website.

  • All adults seem to be too alienated from kids today.

  • when i was 5 windows 98 se was around.. i have yotube and ustareem and vids and a 3 scraan setup.. well one dieds just last night..

  • I'm 12 and i have a my own desktop and laptop with own ustream. my computers are high spected and i know how to C++ program. I learnt all this off my dad because he is a network admin. i build my desktop with my dad.

    Thanks Chris,

    ChatID-liam065

  • i need to try c++.

  • First try php

  • i will be trying java and more,

  • o gosh im 12 and i have daul screen and my own laptop, ustream, and youtube vids

  • Im 12, and Im starting a podcast XD.

    I love your videos chris!

  • i helped my dad get more business with his computer now that i boot leeged office 07 he made more cards and a website

  • i mean i am pretty good at computers just i mean like i cant imagine a kid that doesnt have a comp in my school

  • I was 1 or 2 when I started using the computer. It was an IBM using MS-DOS. My dad loaded games and I played them ( half were educational games half were not :P) but as time went on I am happy for my dad doing this because I was already surfing the net at age 7 or 8 and now I am near the top of my class with others who have used technology from an early age.

  • Yeah,

    Totally Agreed

  • I was 11 when i first started using a PC, 16 now, and wow, since then I must of clocked up at least a year in total time of using a computer. I built my current one, and I'm learning computing (programming) in A-level in about 3 months. So yeah, all good. As long as the kids learn to respect other people over the internet - resepct seems to be the biggest issue.

  • im 21 and have been obsessed with computers and technology since i was 11. i couldnt imagine my life without technology.

  • Im 14 and i can master many things with a computer and other technology.

  • im 13 and i noe the knoledge about computers from an averge 30 year old geek

  • Yet you can't spell or form a proper sentence?

  • well its called internet language you dont have spel ervything rite :]

  • i was born with a spelling pabulum

  • Stop with the CSS in MySpace Profiles if can't use it the right way!

  • I find this ironic but children this generation really don't know shit about computers. All they know is that social networking, pc gaming, and of course Yahoo Answers and/or other illegal references to used to get answers from school exists.

  • well im a 13 yr old and i do web design and some programming and a few other stuff. i defenetly dont know everything obiously but you are right alot of kids at school think they know alot on computers and the reason is because they could build their myspace, i mean "come on" but yeah you are right

  • The majority of MySpace profiles really are very, very amateur. Don't even bother reading some of the crap that's on their pages because of the transparency, or translucency. People need to stop using those third party applications on there page...

It makes their page look so freaking stupid. At the time I've viewed MySpace it was about from 2006 to 2008. Has MySpace changed in terms of layout? What's with musicans and companies trying to make their profile page like a website?

  • Hear hear!

  • Agree if the internet on every computer stopped working right know I bet every kid would think there completly useless. Take away the internet and kids wouldn't know shit about computers? But I'm 13 years old and I know What RAM , operating system, proccesors, usb, cards, compatibility with files, setting up pcs and etc. But seriously I remember in technology class everyone was thinking it was going to be easy but every second of the class girls would come up to me and ask me for answers.

  • Funny. You sort of remind me of myself but don't worry, in College. It's all good.

    People who actually listen.

    I love it.

  • I'm 12 and I developer applicaitons XD. Besides a 13 year old kid cracked the iPod Touch...

  • i like ur screensaver

  • XD im 14 not a nerd but atleast i can build my own computer =) and my cousin got a scholarship to MIT look up MIT in wiki. He was in public school

  • heh I'm 14 and a total nerd.

  • I'm 12 and the same way.

  • if there was no tech no video games no printing no email no tv etc evething electronic is made from a computer to make it

  • if you consider me, 17, a kid, i am already a computer science major at MIT

  • I'm 12. I have an brilliant knowledge of computers I.E I built my own,Repaired my own god knows how many times, Repaired laptops,Making a special effects and all the geeky stuff etc expect for the website html c++. That stuff just confuses me.

  • any1 can learn how to do that.

  • "I have an brilliant knowledge" ... wow... an brilliant... your smart!

  • Yeah, I'm young too, and I probably will never be sucessful in web programming.

C++ and Objective-C is possible for me.

  • Hey Chris. I am 12 years old. I also am a computer tech geek. When someone has a messed up computer or technical problem with something. People that I know will come to me and I can fix it. I tested my self by taking apart my whole computer and I put it all back together. I am currently developing a internet web browser. It is almost done. I run 4 web sites. Some personal some not. I do web design. I am going to email you about somthing. Thanks Chris :)

  • did u take the heatsink for the cpu off? and put it back on without cleaning it with arti-clean and use as5? or did u take it off and put it back on?

  • HTML is not programming language

  • i'm nearly 12, and i know all sorts of programming languages.. like..

    HTML

    XML

    CSS

    JavaScript

    C

    C++

    :)

  • Doesn't it suck to have to teach your relatives to use a computer properly??

"Um... should I delete the C drive?"

    "No, you idiot!!"

"But it's taking up too much space!"

  • um... i just tuned 12 (in march) and i started out 3 and my parents had laptops given to them so i learned on them and i have wanted a laptop sence i was 2-3! and now i know more about computers then most people 3 times my age...

  • Great! Now you can get a job using computers. And youll work in that field for 10 - 15 years, realize you hate, have no other skills ,can;t get another job, and for the rest of your life, you will hate work. Welcome to my world.

  • ok well im sorry u aint got a wife

  • people three times almost anyone's age dont know anything about computers

  • um... i just tuned 12 (in march) and i started out 3 and my parents had laptops given to them so i learned on them and i have wanted a laptop sence i was 2-3! and now i know more about computers then most people 3 times my age...

  • For gods sake, i can build a freakin' computer let it work and even sell it professionally and im 12!

  • groudon18p: im in the same bout as you!

  • what's a "bout"? Oh, you mean BOAT... Everyone now relies on spell check.

  • I have been using computers since i was born. *93*

  • Doesn't that still qualify you for computer literacy? using office style apps. That irritates me that everyone thinks they're an expert these days. On the other hand i remember in school never being able to do work, cos everyone was asking me how to do this or that. I mean literally every 5 minutes!

  • This Is Exactly what happens with me, Im 12 Years Old And I own My OWN iMac, I Purchased Adobe FL And PS, I bought VMware With WinXP. I am A Very Serious Animator, Spriter, And Developer. I feel Like Im the ONly kid online that actually uses grammar, All I have to say to little annoying kids online is, LEARN SOME FUCKING GRAMMAR N00B! You Is Not U, You're Or Your Is Not Ur. The Beginning Of Sentences starts with A capital. I am Almost Failing Tech Because All I hear Is, DIB?! Can You help Me????

  • Amen, im 14, so as said above, LEARN SOME MOTHERFUCKING GRAMMER!

  • That would be grammar not grammer

  • Hmmm, i can see from your language your public school education is serving you well.

  • Back then, i had just got my first serious computer. My 486, cost me 50 quid. Not a lot you can do, except tell them you have stuff to be getting on with too.

  • Hay i can use grammer to but i am 14 not 12 and your not alone there like hundreds of thousands of people that are 12 years of age or younger.

  • that would be "grammar TOO" not "to" Spell check failed you again.

  • he has a packman background.

  • I'm 12 and I download 30 gigs a day :), jk. I do download 30 gigs a day though. And the RIAA or MPAA hasn't found me yet :)

~PeerGuardian~ + torrents + extremely high speed fios.

  • Some of that include linux distros though, not only illegal shit.

  • I started on windows 95 when i was...uh eight or so.

wow they had an 11 year old in chat.

  • I agree... I was using a PC when I was like...

I think it was 5 and using Windows 95 but then Dad got 98 then an XP Home Edition Notebook and I have that on in my room. He bought a XP Pro Desktop for my Sister's room and recently last year he bought a Vist Home Basic Laptop... No Aero! *cries with Kat*

  • great!

  • hey isnt amy greer the one who won the 500 mil song download thing with apple and itunes? prbly not the same one

  • Im 15, I cant remember a time when i didnt have/use a computer, hell i had a PC before i had a gameboy or a Playstation!

  • Lol, i remember when i had my pacard bell, and i used to play with ms paint, and all the games it had. Now im building a comp with an sli setup and all the shit and playing crysis. Time flys, especially when it comes to computers, lol.

  • I would love to combine my kids with computers! That would be great - then I could power them up for limited, conveinent times, and keep them under control by threatening to install vista on them if they don't behave.

  • I'm 13 and I built my computer... big deal?

  • Has used the internet since 28k or less.. Dont even remember.. All i remember is that dad said the internet was a big ting, that could be viewed on any computer in the world, but i couldnt go there until 56k, still, i had a timer and just 10 minutes on myself :P At this point in time im 16 :)

  • my parents did the same thing to me. 20 min on a 56k connection lol

  • i'm 14 :P

and i already know how to bypass alot of things :D

  • Same

  • I love how everybody else things they're superior to everybody else. "very experienced" and "starting working when" arent good descriptors. What most people here consider "experienced is probably bullshit. They just know a few nominal things others don't know or use others' work combined to call it their own =P

  • GOOD!

  • wow, IE4. That IS a long time ago.

  • iam 12 i know more stuff than ALOT OF PEOPLE i TrIPle booting on my osx machine with 16gig of ram 2tb hdd and 300gig backup using . thee operating systems are well duh OSX WINDOWS AND OF COURSE LINuX oh yeah iam probaly the only one here who knows about a kernal mode NOT A POP CORN KERNAL YOU DUMBASS

  • lol so what is kernal then you lil twat???

  • just so you know, blasting off specs of ur computer hardware won't impress people. I fried and I are advanced computer users and I am not running a very powerful machine. He's was running 533Hz for the longest tie until someone gave him a 1.2Gz and he still only has like 384 or maybe 512 RAM i forget. The point is your computer or how many OSs you can boot don't make you superior to others. Its knowing about the computer and the OSs. And yes, I know was kernel mode is.

  • What version of windows?

  • 1gigXFX9800 is the gfx card, and 7 gig is the ram , cloned thing kl, im glad about the css server, css is pritty kl, i played wow for a bit but went back to css lol. ow and terrar byte is 1000 gig that my hardrive. lolz cud u use ur laptop whenu were 3, thats pritty kl.

  • I'm 15 and I have 15 (some scrap) computers (including notebooks) I also have my own web and gaming server (Counterstrike and wow,

oh yes I got my first own real pc when I was 3 (a laptop from 1897)

  • lol im 15, ive bee building computers since i was 9, i have my own pc, which i have had for week now, it has 7 gig of ddr3 ram, with a 1 terror byte hardrive, with a 1GB XFX 9800 GX2, and im dul botting vista ultimate and windows xp pro, vista is crap compared to xp in my opinion. thunderpowered, being experienced in windowes isnt really anything to bw proud of,u might want to trey branching out into other os's like linux.l33t

  • terror byte? 7gigs? 1gigXFX9800? BS

  • terror byte? and 7gig of RAM eh? thats quite an awkward number! is you XP/Vista a 64 bit versions? If not their pointers can only use 4 gigs =P

  • He actually has 16.

  • hmm, my reply didnt reply to the person i was replying to, nvm.

  • im 11 but i don't make xbox games!! wow that sounds good!

  • im eleven but im also not making xbox games

  • im 14 and have a comp (that i made) in my room and im tripple booting unbuntu vista and xp

  • thats kindof dumb

  • why did my earlier comment get thumbed down. all i said was Macs were perfect for kids. i dont see how that isnt true. what would you rather them use? Windows? Linux?....y? Macs ARE the best computers for kids! they have the best Parental Control Preferences then i've ever seen in any OS. they ARE the best computers for kids. get over it PC fanboys.

  • i am 15 and have a computer in my room.

i will make sure my son does not have one in his room.

  • 14 going on 15

  • i am 10

  • im 2

  • i am 11
