  • Absolutely classic 70s!! Wonderful and soulful, sounds inspired by the Temptations! Just love it!! Thanks @veewee !

  • This was not sampled. Actually two of the guys worked as aides in Delite's record office in Manhattan. I know because Ash and Ii always saw them up there. Very friendly. What happened was (can't say exactly) was 2 from this group went to Arista records and founded the group GQ and recorded "Disco Nights" which turned out to be a mega hit. .So it is not a sample just the original song. i still have the green cover promotional copy.

  • Ok...I was just wondering about that...i thought that was GQ...

  • In 1978, The Rhythm Makers became GQ and this song became their first hit "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" - and both are great songs!

  • @tywill10: Thanks for the info. I'm a wax man and didn't know that!

  • Yes of course. But that don't seem to stop folks. Go ahead...just cover it up enough okay?

  • @ajx003 Search results from my music memory show: Gang Starr intro, GURU speaking. Not sampled in any of the files in my library (head)

  • CLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • wow this is a mighty fine soul band from 1976. i should a bought the CD when dusty groove had it. i hope they get it again. the price has gone way up. well enuff said. we all know its the best soul band ever.

  • This song later on became the song Disco Nights

  • Can someone help me out. Was Keith Sweat ever a member of GQ? Someone I know keeps telling me that he was a member of GQ during their hey-day. I have attempted (in vein) to Google this to see if I can find out for sure, but no dice.

  • No... he started on 116th and lenox (harlem) but nobody really knew that forgot the groups name but it wasn't GQ.

  • the name of the group was Jamilla....Kieth sweat was the lead singer....and Tony Lopez the manager/founder of GQ signed kieth and released kieth sweat 1st single "My Mind is Made up" on Stadium Records.....

  • A little more spice, and it became a big hit! "Disco Nights" is a masterpiece, but this original track also do the best!

  • The Rhythm Makers went on to become GQ. This how we do in the BX!

  • The first stone for GQ. They started like this...

  • the rhythm makers have new records out on i tunes. which can be found all over. all fan members of rhythm makers of gq needs to check this out. the song call groove to the funk and funky music is downloadable. check it out. it is hot. funky music is a type of record similiar band much better than disco night. if u lisetn to it. u will keep playin the song call funky music and u wont stop playin it. u will keep playin it over and over like a crackhead. next cooment

  • the rhyth makers is hot as ever and they are now comin out with a new album call everyone nedds money. i seen them most recently in a concert and they are bad as ever. i think that raheem needs to check out hisbo again because they are bad. te rumor is that kenny banks made a new album call everyone needs money. it is strong and hot.see the next chapter

  • recently they play zone and it was off the money please be advised that the makers, kenny band raheem and herb was the orginal members of the band. they got some other guy call paul service to take banks play wh did not strong song to me andit was nothin with out kenny. they made rumors about certain mambers of bthe group. their was a live video shoot from canada that a warm up rehearsal shot was taken and ended up in you tube. check it out and see wehat they sound like. they have a snog call

  • to answer anybody question about the rhtyh makers. i know the rhthm makers back from 1971. they was on the lite reords with kool and the gang. the guy from the rhythm makers was kenny banks, raheim leblanc, keith krier and herb lane was the original member of this band. they came out with zone their first record. and later on came out with soul on your side song. the song became a classic call disco night rock freak, the only difference in the song is the lyrics.

  • Can anybody tell me if this is the band that once had a single out called:.ZONE ?

  • Yeah Its a very track Check out soulboy1977 on you tube to hear...

  • This is a massive tune! A rare treat. A fuckin disco gem! GQ must have took this bassline for their classic "Disco Nights"...

  • That's exactly what I was thinking. Both song are the shit though!

  • Actually, this IS GQ...BEFORE they changed their name, the were "The Rhythm Makers." Just look at the picture above. It's the same band.

  • Same group different name.guitar player rewrote the song To MAKE IT MARKETABLE,SLUM MUSIC WAS OUT OF DATE BY 1977,GOOD TIMES WERE HERE(DISCO),SO HE REDONE IT DISCO NIGHTS TO GET THE GROUP ON.HE'S THE LIGHT SKINNED FELLA ON FAR LEFT.
