  • It's less Banshees and more Blondie.

  • this is not even half as good as their dark classics such as Mondlicht... and bands like Xmal or Kraftwerk should never ever sing in English. German is just part of their sound!

  • Think of it this way, compared to what you have now,X Factor Clone audiences/performers...this is Iggy Pop doing Tarzan.

  • This is the ideal pop song, with that catchy chorus. I suppose people are bitter at how they attempted to 'sell out', but look at it like this; had they kept with the dark goth sound, the sound would have only become stale. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure this scene was dying by the time Devils was released. Xmal Deutschland weren't the only ones taking this 'sell out' approach, considering The Banshees were moving into mainstream pop territory as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @XellKamikaze.... you are correct many of the early goth bands around this time were trying to flirt with commercial success like, Flesh for Lulu, Balaam and the angel and Gene luvs jezebel to name but a few. Strangely though none of these bands were anywhere near as good as they were when they were perfoming their early material.

  • @XellKamikaze I totally agree!

  • @XellKamikaze No offense, but do you honestly believe a song like this has any real merit compared to their earlier work? Listening to this is depressing. You can automatically tell it's mediocre and banal. There's a good reason why bands shouldn't sell out. They make a Faustian deal by catering to commercial interests! It makes me sad to see how talented bands succumb to this in order to sell and "get big". Even if the scene was dying, good honest music doesn't really need a scene to survive.

  • @osharemind I don't think it compares at all, but I respect them for going in a different direction. I don't think it's a bad song really, but I'll rarely listen to it considering the prior three albums are leagues above it.

  • @XellKamikaze The thing is they weren't going in "a different direction", they were going in the wrong direction. This is only my opinion, but this is not the result of experimenting with new sounds, it's the result of adopting a more mainstream sound. And when that happens, you hit an artistic dead end and everything goes to shit; pardon my french. While I wouldn't say "Dreamhouse" is a bad song out of respect for X-mal, I am going to say it is a weak song.

  • @osharemind But its good music,is it not?Personally Ive been listening to it for a week, now thats an a complishment by them even if its 20 years on,Sigh.

  • It's okay, well performed, well played, well produced and well arranged; but I like her much better singing in German and I like much better the darkwave sound of earlier albums like Tocsin and Fetisch.

  • =)

  • Sell out!!!!!

  • einfach nur ein sehr geiler song....

  • MMMMMMMMM very pop did not miss the esensia of comiensa prefer wild wing x-mal

  • what happened?... I mean, is nice but ... is not Xmal Deuschland anymore...

  • @caloy5000 same band...but a vastly different direction...more accessible and pop-oriented....a huge gamble...losing many core fans or gain more new fans. The gamble evidently did not pay off! I happen to have loved this departure and still relish this album as one of their finest!

  • they where trying to shitty commercial and got fucked in the process

  • NOOOOO!!! what happened to you Xmal?!

  • as far as I know the album this comes from, 'Devils' is rare and I found it in a record shop in France about 10 years or so ago now...sad it was their last album..

  • gahh...doesn't even come close to capturing the ethereal roar, the magickal-fist-in-your-ear of their best (i.e. early) output. i had never seen this side of the band, nor do i wish to again. quickly, someone play tocsin and purge this neon-bedraggled, slow-motion pop suicide from my brain ! ! !

  • @lgb77 what he said

  • A mediocre song from a band with so many great songs. I'm guessing this was more the product of being pressured by their record label as it's such a major departure from their other material.

  • dont know sounds like a good song to me!! good guitar and vcals

  • You tore down my dreamhouse.......love this song

  • it just don't fit with the band.

Maybe the band had financial problem.

    this is just not good.

  • I love this video and this song. I don't care what anyone says. "Devils" was a good album.

If you go back and listen to "popular" German pop songs in 1989, you'll see that Xmal Deutschland wrote better songs than ANY of them.

  • great new wave song.thanks for uploading

  • Very underrated album.. Pity.. Anja has perfect voice not only for goth weirdos but for solid pop rock stuff as well.. Greeteng whenever UR:))

  • Cool song!

  • not really my style as far as goth music goes, but catchy nonetheless

  • I like this song.

  • hahaha.

    Germany is our future colony.

    They study English.

  • I still love this band, even if this song is pop.

  • You tore down my greenhouse....

Maybe they had discarded their gothic punky style but still a great pop song.

  • good memories ...

  • Fiona Sangster. Esta en facebook.

  • when Anja Huwe was born?

  • My guess, 1960-62

  • thx;]

  • IU DIE FOR YOU ANJA I LOVED IN I WANNTO TO KNOWW Y6OU MOTTHAN THISN, PLEasea qanswert to me now youre the best, im from mexico im 37 ye4ars old youre y god

  • This lacks any of the spirit of their formative years for me. Close your eyes and it's just below average Euro-synth pop. Instantly forgettable. I saw them in about 1986 and when they did Polarlicht it was amazing...

  • this is what happens when your principal songwriter quits your band. The talent that did contribute to songs like Polaricht are suddenly not there to think up stuff.

  • amazing, amazing, i love devils album, the song what i like much its sleepwalker

  • no i care too and what are they doing now ?

  • Does anybody know why the other members left the band? There's no info on that. Am I the only one who cares?

  • I would have expected more from the lyrics than repitition, but it was a cool beat.

  • I wonder what went wrong with the old band members? No one ever asked them. I guess they were sick of touring.

  • I have to say I don't like this. It's just bland pop. I followed them in the eighties and the band split after the third album. I never knew that Anya and Wolfgang carried on with other musicians as Xmal. I prefer the Xmal I know.

  • It seems that they waited a little too late(89) to decide to go mainstreem. Synth music as a whole was on the way out. But I love Anja in what ever she does. She can do no wrong.

  • Yikes, so commercial for them...but not that I blame them. When did this come out? I lost track of them so long ago.

  • P.S. check out my videos XMAL are a big influence on my music

  • this is interesting. her hair is less wild. The guitars are more (U.S.)radio friendly and the video is like an advert for well......anything really and worse of all she is singing IN ENGLISH!!! It's commercial an attempt to go global. I can't help liking it but i prefer the wild, mournful, howling, evocative XMAL

  • I agree with this sentiment. This is a nice song and all, but there was something much more raw, primal, and engaging about their earlier stuff when Anja would project her voice out into and aria between verses. It's part of why they were unique.

  • @emile235

    I completely agree!

  • @emile235

I really, really like this song ("Love" is a funny word to use for inanimate things : ) despite the use of English and the commercial sound. "Devils" is a cohesive LP when taken as a whole, and to think they would've toured the U.S. (with The Cramps! WOW!) makes me wish it would've happened since I was catching a lot of live shows then. Still, one of my favorite bands -- they just don't make 'em like this anymore : )

  • @DVC231123 The CRAMPS hahaha yeah a lot of goths liked the Cramps

Xmal Deutschland, bauhaus,Siouxsie and Bandhes, etc.

  • ANJA LOVE YOU.....................

  • Wonderful song!

  • Completing what I post below:

it's ok that the album "Devils" become commercial... obviously the worst album of the band (in my opinion), but - for me - still has a good sound^^

  • Agree, this album is the worst of them, but it isn't bad itself. This song sounds good.

  • I love this band ;)

    so sad... the last album...

  • Amazing video, great song! :)

  • guaat?? (what)

... this was the finish of this band.

  • you torn down my WXB 102

  • they are wonderful! <3

  • Thank, lloro por esta banda abuuu.
