According to both the Bible and history, the New Testament church invoked the name of Jesus at water baptism. Its baptismal formula was "in the name of Jesus Christ" or "Lord Jesus," not "in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." The Scriptural Record Every time the Bible records the name or formula associated with an actual baptism in the New Testament church, it describes the name Jesus. in the Book of Acts, the history book of the early church.
@ronhanish: Absolutely. Take a look at Acts 2:38, which is in compliance with Matt 28:19, the most misunderstood scripture in so called christiandom. Jesus IS THE NAME of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Need some book? See Isaiah 7:14 & Isaiah 9:6. That's only a start. It you have not been baptised in the name of Jesus Christ FOR the Remission of your sins, no matter if you received the holy ghost as a free gift, speaking in tongues as evidence (Acts 2:4), sin still has yet to be remitted.
