the union who has supposedly sold everyone out along with the govt, has successfully negotiated just recently for the new trams to be assembled right here in australia therefore keeping jobs and creating new ones.
there are alot of people employed in the tram workshops and also to work on the trams and trains there is about 8,000 people or more across the entire network, hardly selling out on any jobs.
the public transport industry is a very secure job if you can get in.
Hi, Do you got the numbers of al yellow citadis trams? Seems to be the Mullhouse ones, very similar to those ones that work in Buenos Aires a few years. Greatings
i love that yellow "bumblebee" tram, i think it looks cute with the bees on it. I was in Melbourne recently and rode on it from St Kilda Beach to Brunswick then back to the city near Parliament Station. That sound at 0.48 sounds like an email message coming in, it gets annoying when you hear it every few seconds. The one and only think i dislike about it is its quite narrow lanes between the seats because the seats are on raised platforms.
The thoroughly depressing Tory Government of Jeff Kennett began the privatisation of Melbournes public transport system — with the grudging cooperation of the ALP and its union — in the early 90s: that is, within a few short years of a small revolt by tram workers who for one day placed the system under workers self-management.
No Australian wants to work in a factory for lower than the minimum wage. They wouldn't be able to make a living.
So instead the companies have to manufacture offshore where it is much more cheaper and they can make a greater profit so they can make more trams and expand the network and sell tickets to you at a lower price.
You don't know the fundamentals of economics. It isn't jeff kennet's fault or Howard's fault that we don't have manufacturing in Australia
These trams suck, they derail to much even that they weight 40 tonnes, plus they smell like bee poo, but really they are cool looking trams, even for the speed they reach. FAST!
It sounds like an X'trapolis

We buy them from overseas now , we dont make our own trams the Government sold out on us
3aw77 2 years ago
you expected Australia to make it's own trams?
yeah good luck with the price of ticketing it would cost to pay for the labour.
iskandar1111 2 years ago
I Highly Recommend You not to give your money to a foreign owned company.
3aw77 2 years ago
you can't help it.
You try to operate a business where you manufacture your stock on Australia. It will be too expensive because Australian workers require high pay.
Of course I would rather support Australian manufacturing, but it just doesn't work like that.

So we can thank Jeff kennett for that , This is Australia not American
