the animations of chanter fighting are awesome. i made mine male and at maximum height to enhance the looks. i love the way each attack seemlessly blends into the next with no jerks.

Sorry to tell you but the Animation for Pentacle Shock doesn't look the same for males. :(

Though my Chanter is female, so no worries here, but sorry to those that rolled male Chanters.

I was back and forth on the fence about whether to roll gladiator or chanter. But in patch 1.5 chanters get significant buffs, including the ability with certain mantras to achieve 50% permanent boost to attack power (35% for party members). If I have marginally less dps than a gladiator but can increase my assassin friend's dps by over 40%, count me sold.

i love chanters. in the NA beta i played one and it was fun. its hard to die because you can heal and wear chain armor. good buffs and can to a decent amount of damage. if you want a frontlines kinda of charater i would go with templar

It's a strict chain. Ability 1a -> 2a ->3a, except that usually ability 3a only has a "chance" to pop up. Though there are some instances where you have an option. For example, Clerics get a melee attack that they can follow up with either a stun+dd or a dd, so it's two separate chains off the same skill, and at upper levels they get an insta dd that chain the same two skills. So in that instance it works like you asked.

Could it be competitive with DPS? From the mid to later levels, not really.

However, it does other things. Chanters can buff and they can also debuff with their attacks - the DPS is just a perk that comes with the debuffing.

They arn't really competative dps but in long boss fights/raids you need to keep in mind they can nearly double the potential dmg output of others in some cases and when you combine that with their own dmg their "effective" amount of damage contribution via buffs/debuffs and their own dmg is probably going to be higher then everyone else it's just that they do a lot of it indirectly via the buffs so most people don't realise it.

so would chanters be more in the bard role? Buffs and back up heals (in party situations)? I'm guessing that they'd help reduce down time (if there is any in this game). I played as a Bard in FFXI and loved it, so I was hoping that this class would be my release from that dreaded mmo haha =P

Well Chanter not bad in pvp, every class in aion are balanced, well i would say that chanter and cleric job is to heal and buff, but they can pvp here to. BTW some assassin skill chains plz
