You are wrong in saying that. Check out Billy Sheehan and Flea. They both do what I call lead bass. I often use that technique when im playing with out a guitarist. As a bassist, you must be a versatile musician, ready to step up and do more that just root notes. Ive been playing bass for 8 years.
