Very Nice Playing! Maybe someone here can help me with this. What is the best way to start playing banjo? Should I take lessons or try on my own? And amongst all of y'all, do y'all prefer the 4, 5, or 6 string?
@Sanvorae I (as an example) learned it on my own but had 6 years of guitar lessons beforehand which made it much easier I guess to learn another string instrument. I prefer the 4 string because it is again easy for me as I am also playing the mandolin (same tuning). I may get a 6 string just for the fun of it, because there would be nothing new to learn for a guitarist. the 5 string is as far as I know a much more different instrument but I'll definately give it a try some day!
@TheDmbanjo I'm pretty sure they switch between five string and tenor right? but I you're right, this song is definately played on a five string in the original version
@kingofthechevs well a 5 string banjo is your classic banjo that any banjo song can be played with, and a 6 string banjo (also known as a banjitar) is pretty much a guitar that sounds like a banjo.
Dude, Alyinbi, I gotta say, man you flippin rock! You're one of the greater banjo uploaders on youtube, and you actually turned me onto the Tossers (I'm west coast and love Flogging Molly) and your playing on I think traps & ultimatums is just mind blowing.
I'm ordering my first banjo today and it should be here in a few days. So looking forward to watching your playing for pointers. I type at roughly 90 wpm and figure that should give me some help at being a fast player.
@SuperKierann hey! atually i don't know if he uses a 5 string or 4 string banjo, think both, depends on the song i guess. but you can definately play all their songs on a 4 string (as every irish song actually :P)
johny i hardly knew ya was the next song for me to learn but i thought i would only play the intro but you changed my mind :p goin for the whole song ^^
i don't get it why everybody says he has no tabs^^ i mean i can see you playing that song very very good and you must had played that song more than once ;)
pls play it again, write down the tabs and post it ;)) plssssss
Hey, great! This is very useful for somebody trying to learn the song from the interent, because ther're no tablature anywhere! Anyway, thank's for help me learn it, I almost had it, but I knew I had something wrong.
I play the 5 string, but I love the sound of a good old tenor banjo. Well played, sir!
