He's been reelected twice. Although he only makes the news when he's being a jerk, he does a good job of playing to his constituents. They're the only ones he has to please, and he knows it.
Some people are bad at thinking quickly, and will say anything to fill the air. I suppose that is common. What is the shocker is that SF has never been able to live up to its celebrated openness. In the Tenderloin, Mission, Market St., it's worse than Calcutta.
How can such a rich City not meet its budget? The strong laws to protect the poor (me) are often stopping them from getting out of hell.
Even if Daly wants this whether it is good or bad there is no need to insult people. He is just like George Bush he doesn't repect anyone who doesn't agree with him.

Chris Daly is attacking the san francisco police for the wrong reason. What nerve! Instead he should be attacking the gangs for disturbing the peace and shooting up at each other and at innocent victims. He should be attacking the sf homeless coalition group for contributing to the growing homeless problem.

Foot patrols are nothing more than window dressing so that politicionas can say "look, see what I did for you" You reduce the number of officers that are available to respond to emergencies. Any criminal with a car will get away. Daly is a poor leader . Sadly, he does not answer to all of San Francisco just a small cluster of so called "antiestablishment" types where the police are the bad guys. This is what we get for district elections.
Most people will slack off at work if they can get away with it,especially city workers(including the police).It seems like with such a huge budget the police could stroll around the tenderloin a bit.I do on my way to work everyday and it is not that exhausting.I am glad to have a supervisor in my district(6)that works his ass off for the good of the majority.

The POA doesn't object to foot patrols; that's a lie. The POA, Chief Fong and every precinct captain all refuse to take cops out of cars to put them on the sidewalk. When people dial 911 (as they often have to do in D6), they need fast response times to save lives. Every cop on the sidewalk is one less who can quickly respond to emergencies. We're understaffed by more than 200 cops. Daly needs to provide funding for additional cops for foot patrols, not get the existing ones out of cars.
