This video is good until you realize the powerfully sexist undertones inside of the imagery. Every sin commonly associated with a certain sex is flatly applied to that sex. Beyond that men all have sins that are about worth, and women all have sins applied that are about lack of will.

@SeriphArcher I think that is a broad and sweeping statement that really isn't borne out in viewing the video. There may be a couple that may be seen that way but only if you looking for it. More than likely, spoken as someone who has worked on similar sorts of things. The art direction probably has a lot less to do with gender and more to do with what photograph that is available fits best with the phrase and layout at the time. I think you are looking for a Red Herring that just doesn't exist.

Intention and realization in art often don't line up, and when they don't the perception that is put forward is often something the art director did not realize. I did not claim the sexist undertones were put there on purpose, however; that does not change the fact that my analysis is correct. Men have sins of worth and females are given sins of will. This normally would not be an issue if it wasn't for the fact that christianity often assigns gender roles to those specific sins.

So it most certainly wasn't a red herring. I just find it ironic that the sexist undertones line up with the historical stance in christianity about how women have weaker wills than men, and that men are obsessed with sex and greed.

As I said, strong video, but people who are not christian will pick up on it relatively fast. Note how someone else felt the same way when they saw it.

Will all due respect to Michael W. Smith's music, which I enjoy very much, I think it is Wayne Kirkpatrick's lyrics that really make this song shine.  To be honest, I can't think of one Wayne Kirkpatrick song that isn't profound. To me, one of his most sagacious works is "Better Angels of our Nature" (sung by Susan Ashton on her 1992 CD "Angels of Mercy".) Talk about preaching! It is deeply moving.
