I believe this song is about Emily who has been living a privileged life, but she still isn't happy. Then she came to the realization that other people or the survivors are celebrating the fact they are still alive. Saying she never asked for her life but the world won't let her leave... she is tired of living and the survivors truly appreciate their lives. She would rather sacrifice her life for theirs. Really sad... yet beautiful.

This song grew on me so much, at first I didn't really notice it but now it's one of my favourites by them.

The buildup is so beautiful. It starts off feeling kind of sad and hopeless and then it becomes the most positive, uplifting thing at the end.

@Iconoclaust. I agree. When I first heard the song that's the way I saw it too. I don't think this song is 'uplifting' in the traditional sense. It's a cry for death, for release from the responsibility of life. If you believe there is a next life that can be seen as uplifting in a spiritual sense. But it's not a song with a positive outlook on human life.
