It maybe because they were looking for a word that would suit the title for the english dub version, to make it more interesting and more appealing to the viewers. I mean, the title "sceam" is too common.. If I were to choose between 2 movies with titles "scream" and "the echo", I would most probably choose "the echo". It's just a matter of the public attraction.

i would say, the film lacked it's market for hollywood. the american producers of the grudge and the ring were also the ones who produced this movie. i have watched this movie several times and it's a typical horror movie about spirits wanting to have justice, it's no big deal, not that it lacked the scream factor, but it makes you think why it was given a chance to have a remake, i am just giving my points though, not that I hate it, but I surely wasn't impressed with this movie.

Yeah, I can agree that the effects from the Hollywood remakes were way better than the original Asian movies but sometimes they ruin the feel of "fear" from the original. The story sometimes change and its not that scary anymore.. or at least its scary just because of the great effects. But unlike the original, you will be given a feel of "fear" even w/o effects
