One of the very best singer/songwriters around today, and this is one of her most profound, moving pieces. Her album "Flaming Red" is a truly wonderful.... as are most of her works. And if you can see her live, do it! She is a wonderful, gifted performer.
For me, this song will be forever tied to 9/11. The song was played on KDHX a day or so after that day. It was the first time I heard it and the lyrics hit me like a sledgehammer. I get the impression that this song is about a suicide . . . but it felt like something else at the time. I guess it always will. Does anybody know the true origin of this song?
interesting RepoMan...never thought of it that way...i guess it's different for everybody who hears it...all it reminds of is my Grandmother passing 'Occurred to me the other day...you've been gone now a couple years...' a reminder..personal ...and I'm sure in the future may mean something else for me...Patty just really knows what she's doing.....gives me good chills everytime i hear it!
Just read your comments again...I was so 'removed' at the time from 911...being in Canada seemed like a million miles away...reading again what you said....i get it!
This is perhaps the best song ever written. Thank you, Patty. Martina McBride's version is also wonderful and haunting and melancholy. I wonder if the subject of this song is the same as Patty's amazing song "Tony."
Thank you. Helps me grieve.
