They said the food is mediocre at best. These guys all served in the 2emeREP. Mcgorman said the veterans of other miltaries were the ones most disgusted with what they saw, and found it disappointing. Mcgorman also said he had "no regrets". As far as signing up? They take 1 in 10 applicants only, of those about 1 in 10 desert.

@MrSouthernSurvival , i heard that about the Russian army years ago in the news. I've never heard about that in the Legion. That is not likely to happen in an a regiment that is deployed often (ie. most of the Legion). It would be too easy to frag a ranking officer and get away with it.

@dfcsb the legion played a large role in WW2, so i dont know what your on about. They fought in Norway, denying the German's use of resources in norway and Sweeden. It was only when France was invaded that they were withdrawn to help defend it. You have also to remember that the Legion number some 7700, whereas the US military is hundreds of thousands. You cant compare russia, with its millions, who were used as canon fodder, with no equipment and using numbers rather than skill
@hotsandsunny to be fair the foriegn legion played a great part in Narvik during WW2 and also when attached to the British 8th but the legion were only of use when attached to other nations. After WW2 the Foriegn Legion recruited former Waffen-SS soldiers into the ranks!

The Nazi's pushed them and taught them to be anti sematic, whereas the Legion was used in other areas of the world, not taking racial hatred into account, whats more they were under command of french officers.
If we are going down that route, the Vatican helped leaders of the Nazis and SS escape to Brazil and Argentina after the war, placing them into their churches as safe houses!
@hotsandsunny After WW2 many battle hardened Waffen-SS soldiers (and soldiers & officers from other German units) joined the Legion to pursue a military career (which was no longer possible for a while in post-war Germany. These soldiers gave the legion its present day fighting spirit. Legionnaires are a modern day warrior class like the ancient Spartans, Roman legionnaires, Medieval knights or Japanese samurai.

La légion s'est illustrée dans l'histoire comme un corps de guerriers forts aussi bien physiquement ( 3500 légionnaires VS 45000 de l'Afrika Korps : 100 morts dans la légion ( La majorité lorsqu'ils sont partis, à court de munition ), 4000 chez les allemands/italiens ) que mentalement : Dans leur histoire, ils ne se sont rendus que très peu de fois, mais toujours la victoire en main.

@dfcsb the legion played a large role in WW2, so i dont know what your on about. They fought in Norway, denying the German's use of resources in norway and Sweeden. It was only when France was invaded that they were withdrawn to help defend it. You have also to remember that the Legion number some 7700, whereas the US military is hundreds of thousands. You cant compare russia, with its millions, who were used as canon fodder, with no equipment and using numbers rather than skill

@hotsandsunny to be fair the foriegn legion played a great part in Narvik during WW2 and also when attached to the British 8th but the legion were only of use when attached to other nations. After WW2 the Foriegn Legion recruited former Waffen-SS soldiers into the ranks!

@dfcsb That is true, but that has no real relevance, as they werent used in the same respect. The Nazi's pushed them and taught them to be anti sematic, whereas the Legion was used in other areas of the world, not taking racial hatred into account, whats more they were under command of french officers.
If we are going down that route, the Vatican helped leaders of the Nazis and SS escape to Brazil and Argentina after the war, placing them into their churches as safe houses!

@hotsandsunny After WW2 many battle hardened Waffen-SS soldiers (and soldiers & officers from other German units) joined the Legion to pursue a military career (which was no longer possible for a while in post-war Germany. These soldiers gave the legion its present day fighting spirit. Legionnaires are a modern day warrior class like the ancient Spartans, Roman legionnaires, Medieval knights or Japanese samurai.

La légion s'est illustrée dans l'histoire comme un corps de guerriers forts aussi bien physiquement ( 3500 légionnaires VS 45000 de l'Afrika Korps : 100 morts dans la légion ( La majorité lorsqu'ils sont partis, à court de munition ), 4000 chez les allemands/italiens ) que mentalement : Dans leur histoire, ils ne se sont rendus que très peu de fois, mais toujours la victoire en main.
