Deepa Mehta's films are deeply provocative and powerful to me. Mehta's "Fire" is the first film that I ever wanted to purchase. When I watch Mehta's films, I view them over and over again. When I watch American Hollywood films, one viewing is enough.
i really like Deepa Mehta!. i have seen the movie water and i really liked it!. it exposes the miserable life's of widows in the 1930s and how they were badly treated!. the movie was great !. the small girl Sarala Kariyawasam out showed the older actors , John Abraham and Lisa Ray. her performance was outstanding!. she does a magnificent job with the role that she got!. Deepa Mehta has done a great job and she has showed the world about the miserable life's of widows!.
@@I'm an Muslim Arabian girl from United Arab Emarets..and believe it or not, that movie was part of my Humanities course in Zayed University in Abu dhabi@@
If you weren't moved by this movie its probably because you have no soul or sensitivity. Lisa Ray's performance was outstanding. She goes through so many subtle changes from beginning to end of each scene. I have never seen an actress that so genuinely exudes innocence. The story was compelling and based on real issues. If thats not what good filmaking is about then I don't know what is.
i agree it was on real facts but it shows some false things in the movie which were not right! in the movie someone says tht Bhramins are allowed to have sex with anyone they like... this is not true....Bramins are priests and they are thought as pure...this is insane..it is nothin but only nonsense
Overrated and over wrought. Simple politics, and an insipid storyline. Not to mention pseudo three dimensional characters who, in their "complexity" show off how TWO dimensional they really are.
are you kidding? how can you belittle the lives of these widows? It is so emotional i cried from start to finish. the movie was so real, their pain was so real.
yes right..i agree..but hindu scriptures doesnot support the activities they show in the movie..they show wrong stuff abt hindu scriptures...the movie shows false adaptions of rules of scriptures by ppl
I'm deeply disappointed in Deepa for crying racism regarding people questioning the use of models in the film...she claims they do not ask the same question about white actors yet people do all the time...
people are not questioning whther or not indians are beautiful people they are questioning this narrow definition of beauty...it seems to me that it is Deepa, not the people questioning, that seems to have issues with whether or not indians are beautiful people...
i completely agree, n the reason many people even ask this question is b.c bollywood does use a lot of beauty queens as actors and actresses...i mean lets face it there is a big difference b/w gwenyth paltrow aishwarya rai. gwenyth is not a beauty queen and she is not considered ms. world but actress like aish. are considered that way. i think every culture has a narrow definition of beauty
everybody is good looking...but lisa and john DO look like models.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Deepa Mehta is one of the biggest Anti-Hindu in this world today. Her movies try to depict Hinduism in the most negative ways possible.
