@846524162 I've seen cats massage pillows and blankets like like that. I've always thought they were trying to make it more comfortable. Don't know why they would do that to other animals.

@newcollector It is from when they were kittens. They press on the mother's belly to make milk come out and it makes them feel good and comfortable.

That is why they do it. To make themselves feel comfortable and good and brins back memories from those sdafe days as a little kitten with mom :)

What amazes me is that the 'patient' seems as supremely happy as the 'therapist'! This kneading behaviour is common to all cats but I've never seen it perfomed on another cat. Choice video!

@emmykins1998 Actually it doesn't have that connotation. My cat will jump up on my unmade bed and do it to the piled-up sheets, as well as in my lap before settling down. I thought it was a nest-making behaviour for that reason. My vet, however, says it's an expression of extreme happiness and contentment and loud purring always accompanies it with any cat I've ever owned. Mating urges are absent in animals that have been 'fixed' early on. Mating urges lead to humping behaviours in mammals.
