  • you make it look simple, lol.

    Awesome!

  • Your technique is nothing short of amazing... sorry no more comments, I need to go practice.. :D

  • some nice hybrid pickin there hahaha sheer brilliance

  • Are you using the holdsworht legato technique?

  • @Sxrule No, he does pull-offs.

  • tom, thanks for your column in iguitar, you are an inspiration

  • i´ve been playing guitar since i was 15, i got to the point where nothing impress me anymore... but you just broke that, you are truly AMAZING,.. very pleasant to hear your improvisations.... wich are better than any composed shit i´ve ever done

  • FUCK!

  • Absolutely astounding playing, some amazing licks in there I could only dream of playing. One other question, what cam are ya using?

  • Tom, you playing leads or play in Leeds?

  • he picks like eric johnson

    amazing job

  • this impro is absolute awesome!!!!! I can say only.., wow... ;)

  • Yea that's some pretty tasty/nasty stuff there. Tom Quayle is a scary monster.

  • OMG....

  • beautiful, man! could one of your influences be Lane?

  • LOL @ anyone who thought this was sped up. Watch each part twice. One with the right hand, One with the left. Notice how syncopated both hands are. That doesn't come over night and speeding up the video wouldn't make that look any more "together". This is great technique and sometimes your eyes really don't believe your ears :)

  • ok this guitar looks very kickass. and from u jamming on it so eloquently i take it feels awesome too? does it get out of tune when u do those bends? cus i saw u bend a few times and it stayed pretty much in tune

  • Man he' minds me bit about that Steffen Shackinger phenomenon.. :p

  • Very Impressive!

  • yeah, MAster, do you use a ring finger too ?

  • i like wehn muted

  • great

  • why dont they have guys like this working at musicians institute that guy i saw earlier was a load of shit

this guy clearly has everything together:]

very badass you remind me of my favorite teacher :]

  • PEOPLE SAY ITS SPED UP BECUASE THEY SUCK.. -O- FUKRS.. LEARN TO HAVE PATIENTCE

  • Hi Tom,

Awesome work, loving every bit of it. I have a Boogie 5:50, but i see now that i better get a Suhr guitar and toadworks as well. Awesome sound, and very clean playing. You are lot´s discussed here in Faroe Islands by my fellow musicians :) . Consider this posted on my wall of fame also.

Have a great and inspiring new year.

    Musically

    Mikkjal Hvannastein

  • My LORD, your little finger is as fast as like the speed of sound or something, that's top

  • you know at first i thought it was sped up by the movement of your hand, but i soon found it wasnt but you just have wierd hand movements, wierd....cheers nonetheless on a exceptional job!

  • Tom, when you hybrid pick, do you use the middle finger only, or ring finger too?

  • awesome man. what are those 2 single coils and what kind of neck is that? looks niceeeee! Thanks in advance.!

  • What woods did you get on that Suhr? Oh, and incredible playing!

  • @seandog1234 I read he has a basswood body with some kind of maple top. There is actually details at Suhr`s website. Getting my first Suhr soon, buying it secondhanded though, but it will be awesome.!

  • i find that all suhr users are all fking pro

  • Hi Tom,

I'm working on the transcription of this vid.

As there is no bass line, would you please give what chord progression you had in mind (or that coukd fit) when playing ?

    Thanks for your help.

  • @YANN196

Im doing it myself, well the choice licks for someone. It moves pretty freely around keys

  • this is nasty tom .. cheers from india

  • People are only saying it's sped up because you're playing faster than they can think. It isn't sped up, it's just class.

  • Hi Tom

I am very very impressed from your way of playing.

Also your sound is awesome. I very much like your delay ...its very light and fits perfect to your playing. Would you mind let me know your delay setting / time / analog/digital, what gear are you using?

    I much appreciate

    Best regards from Germany

    Steve

  • Guthrie Govan deluxe!

  • Player!!

  • pleeeeeease post a tab for the lick at 1:45!

  • Awesome! - A BASS loop wouldn't hurt though!

  • @GicaEric everybody has his own sound, man

  • @rafauleciaelcarpio He means bass on the backing track ;-)

  • @MyxHarnett hahahaha okok!! hahaha sorry people

  • @GicaEric ...he is crazy...

  • just a quick question, are you standard tuning?

  • @StowyFastFingers No, he's tuned in fourth's across the board.

  • Do you use finger(s) and mediator (Alternate)? that's what I see !Really great !

  • Do you use finger's) and mediator (Alternate)? that's what I see !Really great !

  • Hell man!!! amazing!!! i love your playing, keep rocking in that way ! i love those mixes between bebop scales with those minor arpeggios and your way to play those pentatonics shapes, fantastic phrasing!! Thank you for this!! :D:D:D

  • Hi Tom!I really like your playing!!!!your're great man!

  • Fantastic stuff.

I definitely hear some Garsed in there ....

  • i love the way you emote when you play slow and melodicly but your runs dont do anything for me..... not too say theres anything wrong your playuing is incredible

  • first class of world playing for me

  • Man, this is clearly sped up; check the right hand´s movement at 3:38, almost unreal.

    Come on people...

Awesome jam Tom! I´m slowly trying to figure some of those runs out. btw, you could post a TAB or video, showing one of those hybrid picking fast runs you use.

    Keep it up !

  • @franklasa Cheers man! I'm doing a tutorial on my site soon about those kind of runs! I'm assuming the first bit of your comment was sarcasm? ;-)

  • @tq105 @tq105 your assumption is correct my friend! i´ll be checking your site then.

  • @tq105 Tom quick question man, how much was that Suhr if that isnt a cheeky question.

love your jams man they are epic, must be Guthrie Govan inspired by any chance? =]

  • @tq105 do some tutorials on youtube .... ur lines are amazing

  • @franklasa Not sped up. Looks more like the cam frame rate is lacking. For this shred stuff. a 60fps would be better.

  • So what you're saying is. I should start saving for a Suhr? :)

They strike me as a guitar with Les Paul thick tone and Ibanez playability. Does that sound about right?

  • You are a hell of a player. Cheers, mate. Keep up the good work.

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SO COOL~

  • Wow u shred like nobody's business.Entertaining to watch!

  • you know, i saw what the guys were saying about jerkiness a while back on a diff computer. but it looks like youtube lag, it doesnt make this vid look sped up. you would def be able to tell plus vibratos sound absurd when sped up

but anyways, sry for asking for a perfect 4ths vid when you already had one up tom!! =X

but your suhr is gorgeous and your playing is so well felt. i think my pets actually wind down when i play your vids

would be awesome if you uploaded some hybrid picking lessons!!

  • DAMN

  • dude, take the comments of people thinking that you sped your videos up as a compliment. phenomenal playing good sir. your legato is amazing! i will hopefully get mine to that point eventually!

  • Awesome tone man!

  • wow, that Suhr sounds great

  • best Amish bearded guitarist currently alive.

  • Uauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

  • I know theres no chord progression in the back, so anything goes really. But, you play alot like guthrie, and thats really special. See, i play kinda like john petrucci, thats just my style. But im not nearly as comfortable as you are drifting from the root and playing this giant collage of modes in different keys. Can you offer any advice for aspiring jazz guitarists who wanna take their skill to the next level?

  • so many great guitarists think very highly of you. on different random occasions amazing guitarists i have had the pleasure of chatting with asserted, "you need to check out tom quayle if you havent"

  • mr. tom quayle,

i must say that your playing is EXquisite! i hope that i'll play like that one day. i will practice hard and efficiently so that i can play like this. Thanks for the great vides Mr. T. -Kenneth Jang

  • Cool style!

    Whatta' playa!!

  • Hi, Tom.. what video/camcorder are you using? The quality and the sound is really good? I am having getting a decent camcorder for sound and picture quality..thanks

  • Comment removed

  • men, the guitar sounds amazing, but your playing! its awesome! a real inspiration for us! keep uploading good stuff!

  • this is outstanding!

    speed,feeling,and sounds amazing!

can still see angelo loving idiots bashing this though, which is superrr gay

  • I think it's Ez Drummer, or Addictive?

  • How do you like the 5:25? I'm thinking of getting one. It's a great amp.

  • Bought myself a Suhr modern recently. Watching videos like this makes me wonder whether I'm actually worthy of owning one! Big fan of your playing Tom! Keep up the good work!

  • That guitar looks almost effortless to play

  • great playing man! can I ask what progression are you thinking as you improvised throughout the vid?

  • I wish I could play like you.

  • Nice! where did you got you BTs? if it's not much, can you email me your backing tracks? thanks

  • All those idiots who say this is sped up die from the "Hand of Quayle"...cheers

  • SMOOOTHHHHHH..

  • @duboyous10 I find it insulting that anyone would think I was desperate or sad enough to speed up one of my own videos. I have more respect for myself and my music than to do something so stupid.

  • @tq105 No need to be offended man. I didn't accuse you of speeding it up... Like I said, I know you're capable of playing like that. Sometimes videos can get sped up when they're uploaded to a computer or even to Youtube sometimes. I'm still not sure what the deal is, but I was just writing what I observed. You're the man Tom, and a real inspiration to a lot of players. Keep up the jams!

  • @tq105

Tom, I would take that as a compliment! :P

  • @tq105 Agreed. It's just the camera frame rate.

Don't sweat it. Your phrasing just bitch slapped him in the face so hard he went momentarily retarded.

  • @tq105

I like to put my band's songs on 500x normal speed, blast it from my computer and block my door while I go for a walk and my family goes insane.

  • @tq105 Maybe you should slow it down so he can see XD

  • @tq105 If I where you I'll take these comments as complements! :) Thumbs up! You playing nice

  • @tq105 He obviously doesn't realize the possibilities and amazing wonders hybrid picking can do, or the fact of years of practice can let a person achieve on an instrument!

  • @duboyous10 No I don't think so. It was probably youtube...or maybe your connection? I'm not really seeing anything choppy or jerky.

  • @duboyous10 man its ridiculous that ppl say this is sped up. Do you have ears? Not only does it not look sped up it clearly doesn't sound sped up. Don't be stupid.

  • @duboyous10 Envy?

  • @X09FHA Haha- not at all man. If you had read my posts in their entirety, you'd see that I'm not questioning his playing ability at all. Like I said, I listen to a lot of Tom and know exactly what he's capable of doing. The resolution/frames per second are set so high that it does in fact look a little jerky. I just mistook that for it being sped up- not an unusual mistake to make, especially in America, where our standard fps is less than in England. No reason to get upset.

  • @duboyous10 you only have to look at other parts of his body and you can see their not twitching

  • @duboyous10 .... please keep in mind that, from what he said in the description, he recorded the video WHILE he was playing into Logic. So, I would imagine that he had to sync up the video with the audio later, which might account for the "jerky movements." I know that when I have had to sync videos in the past, they always look a little weird.

  • @duboyous10 This is evidently not sped up, look at his throat and how its not at all unnaturally moved at any time.

  • Goddamn this is awesome!!! :D

  • damn beautiful guitar!

  • Hello Tom,

could you tell us what strings, picks you use and your guitar setup *action, pickup height) I found some info on the web but it was only regarding your equipment (amps and stompboxes)

    Thanx man,

    Oleg.

  • Nice work.

  • That's a great tone. Sounds great. I like your pick/finger picking technique. Good tasty stuff. Yumm.

  • You know it's an AMAZING solo when there's no accompaniment and you can still hear the chord changes!

  • yeaaaa the style guthrie govan , very good

  • @olisan29 Not quite. Listen to more music. Guthrie isn't the end of the world when it comes to "fusion"

  • dayym bro, great playing.

  • Well reading the comments I cant stop laughing. Tom shows us some amazing phrasing and some people talk about speedin up? Hes not even playing very fast :)

    Anyhow, great chops.

  • killer chops, Tom. That 5:25 sounds fantastic with the Suhr

  • i think its hilarious that everyone that has a suhr guitar here on youtube can shred with ease

what kind of black magic is this????

  • fabulous!!!!!;) :D

  • Hi Tom,

I'm a big fan of your playing and watch your You Tube videos constantly - yes, i'm addicted. I was wondering if I could persuade you into doing a video about the setup of your Suhr guitar? What do you prefer in terms of strings, neck adjustment, pickups? And how often do you use that blower switch?

    All the best,

    Mads

  • Dude... you are killing!!!!!! Gotta work on my jazz fusion chops now :)!

  • Nice jazzy style. I'd love to learn jazz but that means maybe a teacher and I don't like them.

  • Absolutely ''great'' man. Very impressive. Your playing reminds me the playing of Brett Garsed. Am I right?

  • @AyanRafique Are you joking? I'd never do something so stupid!

  • @tq105 Yes Yes I'm joking :)

Thanks for the fast reply! You are one of my favorites.

  • @tq105 yeah man this guy is a noob, you're in the pocket he's just jelous

  • @schectersensei @schectersensei I am very jealous, but I wasnt trying to insult anyone or anything, I'm still lost how someone can twitch so fast lol. Im practicing it right now...it looks cool.

By the way, almost everyone is a noob when compared to Tom Quayle :D

  • @AyanRafique haha ok mate! keep up the good work!

  • @tq105 last time i checked jams were meant to be a freedom of exspression

  • @AyanRafique that's clearly because he has unnatural super human speed...duh everyone knows that..

  • @AyanRafique Yeah man, it's totally sped up. no one can actually play this well without help....

  • @AyanRafique We've all seen Tom go pretty fast and this video is obviously not about "look how fast I can go" so I can't see any motivation for speeding the video up.

  • @AyanRafique and the unnatural human movements are because he is a god from the jazz dimension.

  • @AyanRafique Yea its not sped up, alot of guitarists usually do those little twitches, shows they are "feeling it" :P

Check out Greg Howe he does that stuff aswell.

  • @AyanRafique its called a very good technique.. u damn... my god..

    P.S i love this tune Tom ! :)

  • @AzinGuitar Yah i know lol. I said this 3 months ago when i was a n00b. I am still one though haha.

PS: I hope Tom didn't mind my noobish comment. Sorry if that was insulting in anyway, I bow down to you lol. Incredible legato phrases. (I know you get that alot) And can nail the changes too (even though this vid has none lol)

  • @AyanRafique Play more guitar Newb.

  • @nezmaster1 I will, my lord :D

  • @AyanRafique

Tom can never do something so ridiculous... Like speeding stuff up and all... He is capable of playing at such speeds and he is a virtuoso... That's all I can say it's quiet silly to think of a guitarist of such caliber to do something as ridiculous as speeding stuff up.

  • Great note clarity and articulation!

Been looking at Suhr guitars for years but shit 3000 bucks!?

Do you see a big diff. in the pups or is it the overall guitar build?

    tkanx

  • genial man!!!!!

  • this is insane, how the heck are you playing that lol..thats really cool man..

  • Damn bro, insanely tasty

  • genius! You're the best man! tone and skills in one! what more can you ask for? Looks/style maybe? You already got the talent bro! You just need the visuals that can take you higher! All the best for you my friend! :D

  • impressive style

  • My balls are in my mouth ... GULP !!

  • cool roll of toilet paper on your coffee table

  • You shred like nobody's business, your right hand is so relaxed when doing that high speed shred.

  • that guitar is really nice

  • your are absolutely amazing!!

  • Clear and inspired. Great tone. I love it.

Amelie Poulain was a great movie to you, am I wrong ? ; )

  • verry nice mate

  • your timing is unbelievable man.. Thinking about getting a suhr now to, but i kind of want a Les Paul custom.. I don't know what to get! Are Suhrs really that great!? You sure make them sound great.
