These vinyl records used to be handed out by the local butcher to people who had spent £5 or more. Yes a load of crap but to us in our 40,s this is sheer nostalgia. Oh and by the way i have the original single, pink and white label and on the b side "There Aint Half Been Some Clever Bastards" Brought it around 1979
Wow, thanks. This is exactly what I'd been hoping to find. After enjoying various of the videos for Ian's and Nina's versions for a couple months, it suddenly occurred to me that it would be amusing to hear a Top of the Pops cover of it--if one actually existed. And here it is! Super. This is a 1-star movie, but with the advantage that it only lasts several minutes and that I can immediately recover from it by popping in Ian via video or record.
Back in the 70's The (copious) Top of the Pops albums could usally be picked up at your local woolworths for silly money - but always NOT the original artist!!!
ive hung out with the blockheads ..usually fixing some piece of equipment just before they are about to go onstage ....great players ...and the playing on this cover is to my surprise good also especially norm bass riffs which are a classic..give it 8 out 10.. as there were some really crap covers in that set of lps in those days....
I remember too many late 1970'schristmas LP present shaped unwrappings effectivly dashed to pieces by the sight of these album sleeves coming into view, saved only by the scantily dressed lady, still those bastards covering those songs should have been sued back then !
I remember these being released. They were sooo cheap. That was The idea...get the songs out, make money and sod the originals......Always liked the page 3 girls on the covers though. Just remember most plp here are not brits, so they would not know the history of these LP's, Nor perhaps the REAL Ian Dury...RIP> sex and drugs and rock'n'roll...!!
Dont get the hump mate, this was put up with tongue firmly in cheek,it goes without saying its not ID.Check out the rest of my offerings I,m sure you,ll find something that,ll please you Dury-wise.
It's hard to believe now but these anonymous covers album were very popular in the 1970s. The idiots who bought them now have Simon Cowell's shit-shows to entertain them.
this isnt half as good as ian duran. ian durans voice is so much better and the bassist isnt even playing it right... comone. like if he want to improvise a little thats good but make it sound good?
I had just moved to California in 1979 when this came out. To say the least, I'd never conceived-- let alone heard-- a song as strangely attractive as this.
As an earlier posting said, this is very, very wrong. Exactly.
Ian Dury, is the lover of all women, strange and unknown, and you have to love the lover or love the one you're with. I'm beside myself. Besides, Chris.
These Top of the pops album had no connection with the tv show they were cheap albums that you bought kids ..not let me repeat that ....NOT THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS and you can tell its not ian dury and the blockheads...worth today.......1p ha
Absolute joke from the 70s - can't believe so many people bought the top of the pops albums either. What a waste of money! I remember reading once that Elton John was one of the singers on some of the early ones before his career took off - have to start somewhere I guess.
I would have said thank heaven we don't get inflicted with this anymore but then I remembered all those cheap compilations out there with "all the hits" but NOT by the original bands - just the original drummer!
I remember getting these, they are classics in their own right.

From the album cover, we're lucky to have been spared their versions of 'I don't like Mondays' and 'Video killed the radio star' . . .
